Lots of posts about family estrangement on MN. What is the worst thing your parent has said or done, what was the straw that broke the camels back?

I'll start. My mum called me a "murderer" for having a miscarriage. Like I had a choice in the matter. She also once asked me why I couldn't just "turn a blind eye" when I discovered my DH was cheating.

My dad told me he wished he'd drowned me at birth

Mine asked me for some fentanyl so she could end her life. I have never touched drugs and wouldn't even know where to go to get any. She has been spoilt her entire married life but laid this on me? Also said he should go over to their house when the sibling who abused me is there because they are great company.

I am struggling but she doesn't care.

Sided with my abuser over me when I was 10 apparently I was a lying little tart.

My father told me to “stop walking around like a skeleton,” I was anorexic at the time.

Dragged me and forced me to have a second trimester termination when I was a teenager. I begged, I really begged for my baby’s life. I begged her, every nurse, every doctor. She threatened me so severely that I had to sign the form I was shaking and scared - they heard her do that. Nobody listened they just took me to theatre on her demand.
I was a zombie for a week after. Then I asked what had happened to the baby and she snarled ‘they took it with the rest of the rubbish to burn in the hospital incinerator. Don’t ever mention it again’

For years I doubted myself wondered had I actually begged everyone and told them I didn’t want to ? Till I got my notes and saw how it was documented over and over that I was ‘refusing’ but ‘mother insists TOP goes ahead - keep rebooking’ . I have PTSD I’ll never recover and it was so long ago

When I say teenager - I was 18, so yes a teen but also an adult. That makes it feel worse as I didn’t consent properly and multiple other people - professionals just turned a blind eye.

These stories are so shocking. I'm so sorry.

The worst thing my parent did was really minor in comparison.

Wanted me to move out when I returned from uni and have no chance to leave some stuff behind to collect at a later date. It stung at the time but I think they just wanted their house back.

When I was a child -

Did nothing when I told her my guitar teacher was abusing me.
Continued to socialise with her brother for the rest of his life after he went to her, umprompted by me, and told her he had sexually abused me one night.
Told me I was vain when I wanted to enter the Miss Butlins competition.
I don't have a big enough chocolate cake to go round so when the visitors are here, if I ask you if you want a slice, say no.

When I was an adult -

You look like a big fat tomato in that red t shirt
You've got your kids now, fucking shut up moaning (after 5 years of infertility and IVF)
You obviously haven't taken your happy pills today

I could go on, but it's painful to even think about.

Had that said to me but the worst was the denial years later that I was severely bruised after being beaten with a slipper . I was kept off school for a fortnight supposedly with flu and excused from swimming when I went back . Was told I would be taken away and I would never see my beloved Grandparents again .

This is truly traumatizing. I am so sorry the nurses and Doctors who should have protected you did nothing. I hope you are healing x

Too many horrible things to put on MN tbh, and one of the many reasons we have been NC for many years, no regrets.

When my beloved father died and I cried, she snapped “I don’t know why you are crying, he was my husband”.

When I was lying in a French hospital bed having suffered a serious head injury skiing, unable to walk and in my own “I can’t come out as I have badminton on a Monday”.

When getting married and she was the only person who didn’t rsvp to the invite “I have until tomorrow to respond”.

I’m LC with her now and the relief is immense.

I went to get you aborted.

Chose a man over me. Repeatedly.

My dad told my brother that our mom didn’t want us. I cut off contact after that. It wasn’t remotely true and even if it was why would he say such a hurtful thing? Bastard.

Too many horrible things to write, but probably being called ugly throughout my child and being told she wished she had aborted me, also as a child.

That is absolutely horrific, I don't know how you survived it. I hope you don't have contact with that evil, unnatural hag any more.

Every time there is a thread where a teenager is pregnant, a small but vocal minority of posters proclaim that they would take their daughter to get an abortion whether she wanted to or not, because they wouldn't allow her to "ruin her life" with her silly teenage feelings about keeping the baby. I hope those women see your post.

Wow, these are just awful. Really sorry to hear the terrible things some of you have gone through. Hugs to all.

Mine is my dad stabbing my mum in front of me when I was a teenager. He didn’t kill her but it changed all our lives in a matter of minutes. Still feeling the ripple effects of that 25 years later.

I'm almost sorry I started this thread, so much heartbreak.

You are all beautiful, inspirational people. Thank you for sharing your stories. In time, I hope we will all heal and prosper.

Some people are just not cut out to be parents.
