Moving to Yorkshire

susan5678 · 25/06/2024 16:14

I live in Bournemouth and want to move to Yorkshire to rent a flat no more than £600 a month for a 2 Bed Flat as it would be for myself and my 34 year old son. I would like to live in a nice quiet area. Where there is no anti-social behaviour. A nice neighbourhood. Could anyone tell me the nice areas to live in where the Rent is reasonable. Quality of life is very important to me. Any help would be very much appreciated.

'Yorkshire' is huge...there's three big counties-worth of it, and 2 national parks in it!
Can you narrow it down a bit eg were you thinking of near any particular city, or the Dales, the Moors or the coast?

Blouson · 25/06/2024 16:17

Bournemouth is far nicer and no stupid accents.

scrapsontheside · 25/06/2024 16:18

Yorkshire is massive! You might need to a little more specific on your desirable area.
You couldn't get anything in York Harrogate Otley or Selby for that amount @ErrolTheDragon has faster fingers than me!

No Bournemouth has changed a lot. I have lived her all my life. Rents are very expensive. I would like to live in North Yorkshire.

OP the "nice" areas of Yorkshire are way out of your price range.

Try Bradford perhaps.... .

MarlieJae · 25/06/2024 16:21

What type of lifestyle are you thinking? Beach walks, countryside, transport access, shopping …North Yorkshire has all of those, however it takes four and a half hours to drive across it.
There aren't many areas for your budget though and maybe not classed as the nicest NY’s has to offer.

We can help if you are more specific.

Ahem, excuse me! Yorkshire is wonderful and I love the accents. I'm a southerner who's lived here 12 years.

susan5678 · 25/06/2024 16:22

No i wouldnt want to live in Bradford. I wouldnt feel safe. What is Roundhay or Meawood areas like to lice. I would appreciate your help. As long as its a quiet neighbourhood and low crime.

@susan5678 No you wouldn't get anything in that area for £600 you would need almost twice that I believe

Neither of those are North Yorkshire, Roundhay is Leeds.

SallyWD · 25/06/2024 16:24

Ilkley and Otley are lovely. I'm afraid I have no idea about the rental prices. Harrogate will be too expensive. Are you happy to live in a village? I think somewhere semi-rural will be affordable. There are some beautiful places in the countryside.

Blouson · 25/06/2024 16:24

What attracts you to North Yorkshire? The scenery? There must be nicer places down your way. There's anti social behviour everywhere apart from perhaps the nicest of villages, but they'll cost a packet.

WhatNoPeas · 25/06/2024 16:25

I like both Roundhay and Meanwood and they are generally safe areas of Leeds, but both with rougher edges. I'm not sure where you'd end up for £600 for a 2 bed place though as North Leeds isn't particularly cheap. Have you seen anywhere?

Perfectlystill · 25/06/2024 16:25

If you want cheap housing and quiet life you'd do better in Lincolnshire (the nice bits)

susan5678 · 25/06/2024 16:26

I dont have to think about schools my son is 34 years old. Near shops and bus stops i wouldnt want to be isolated in the countryside. As long as the rent is reasonable and its a quiet area.

What are you driving that takes you 4 and a half hours to drive across North Yorkshire?! Its big but its not that big.

WhatNoPeas · 25/06/2024 16:27

Just looked and as someone else has said you need £1200 for a 2 bed in North Leeds.

Tdcp · 25/06/2024 16:28

You're going to need a bigger budget I'm afraid. I live in a 'rougher' town in west yorkshire and you're looking at about £750 for a 2 bed flat. In north yorkshire you have no chance. Sorry!

Blouson · 25/06/2024 16:29

Honestly stay where you are! Bournemouth or somewhere like Redcar for £600/month. It's a dump.

NannyR · 25/06/2024 16:29

I rent out a flat in Bradford, inner city area, not a particularly great postcode for crime stats and the rent is £550 a month. That gets you a small two bed flat (one smallish double and a very small single), no garden. I think you will be struggling to get anything in a nice area for £600.

There are no nice, quiet places with no antisocial behaviour in Yorkshire for that price.

SweetChilliSauces · 25/06/2024 16:31

I can’t imagine you will be able to rent anywhere in England for £600 that’s in a nice area. What are you both going to do for work/income?

SallyWD · 25/06/2024 16:31

I live in neighbourhood next door to Meanwood. My neighbourhood is called Weetwood (it's beautiful, safe and peaceful) but I don't think you'd get a 2 bed flat for £600 here.
Meanwood is pretty mixed to be honest. There's some affordable rental property there. In recent years it's become more fashionable. It has a Waitrose and some trendy bars. The Meanwood park is excellent (I live on the other side of it). However, there's still areas of deprivation in Meanwood and some of it looks quite rundown. If you're specifically looking for a lovely neighbourhood I'm worried it might not be quite right for you. I'd happily live there though.
Roundhay is lovely and another place I'd happily live. Again, I don't know how much flats cost there.

itsjustbiology · 25/06/2024 16:31

Sorry Op but up here it is expensive. My son pays 1600 pm for a one bed, admitted its in Leeds centre but even so roundhay is quite expensive too.
