Moving to Yorkshire

susan5678 · 25/06/2024 16:14

I live in Bournemouth and want to move to Yorkshire to rent a flat no more than £600 a month for a 2 Bed Flat as it would be for myself and my 34 year old son. I would like to live in a nice quiet area. Where there is no anti-social behaviour. A nice neighbourhood. Could anyone tell me the nice areas to live in where the Rent is reasonable. Quality of life is very important to me. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Bournemouth is far nicer and no stupid accents.

Excuse me?

Violetmouse · 25/06/2024 17:05

Wny don’t you do your own Rightnove searches and then ask people what the areas you can afford are like?

susan5678 · 25/06/2024 16:22

No i wouldnt want to live in Bradford. I wouldnt feel safe. What is Roundhay or Meawood areas like to lice. I would appreciate your help. As long as its a quiet neighbourhood and low crime.

You say you want North Yorkshire, but then mention areas in West Yorkshire? You’ll not get anywhere that’s decent area, like the ones you mention, at £600 a month. Double it and you’ll be in the right area figure wise.

Take a look at Cottingham, the biggest village in England, or something like that. Nearish to Hull and still has some old world charm. Just creeps in budget.

@susan5678 No you wouldn't get anything in that area for £600 you would need almost twice that I believe

Edited

Not sure you'd get much in any of Yorkshire for that price tbh

I'm from Yorkshire, thanks for letting me know that my accent is 'stupid' 🙄

What are you driving that takes you 4 and a half hours to drive across North Yorkshire?! Its big but its not that big.

You can deffo spend a day driving across Yorkshire, enjoying the sights, the sounds, the empty countryside roads!

This is a typical terraced rental in Silsden which is just out of Keighley just to give you an idea of how far your money will go in some of the cheaper areas.

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/149482337

Silsden is a spit and a throw from Ilkley and Skipton and virtually on the border of West/North Yorks. That isn't a very big house though..

Ohnobackagain · 25/06/2024 17:15

@susan5678 why not have a look on Rightmove (rentals option) for things in your budget using the map to find areas in budget then ask people on here about those areas (and look on upmystreet as well). I found somewhere in Robin Hood’s Bay near Whitby doing that?

We could stretch our budget to £750 a month but no more.

A lot of posters are suggesting places that are quite out of the way and semi-rural, but my impression is that this wouldn't be what you're after.

You say you want shops (which I think means you want a town/city rather than a village), but do you/your son also need to find work?
It sounds like you'd prefer to city to rural - is that right?
Do you drive?

Roundhay is expensive!

Well yes you can but thats a bit different to trying to tell someone its so large it takes 4.5hrs ro drive across it as a measure of scale.

Indeed.
My 'stupid' accent has never done me any harm.

Georgyporky · 25/06/2024 17:18

If your son is still with you at 34, does he have any special requirements that could influence where you could live ?

Bournemouth is far nicer and no stupid accents.

Always seems to be someone getting murdered or stabbed or going missing in Bournemouth these days.

One of the West Hull Villages might be ok
look around the Humber Bridge area

Might be out of her budget! Even the deprived areas of Hull rent is more expensive than £600.

BloodyAdultDC · 25/06/2024 17:21

Do either of you work op?

That's going to be the biggest factor when deciding on your location. North Yorkshire is VAST and a good chunk of it is rural with limited access to public transport and major roads.

I think you really do need to sit down and plan what you really need - price for two working adults only being £600 is going to limit you to some potentially really really grotty parts of the county.

StrongandNorthern · 25/06/2024 17:22

£600- (poss stretching to) £750 a month??? 😂😂😂😂

Also, if the OP's son doesn't work, this may be due to health conditions? In which case access to suitable healthcare facilities is a factor.

There are large areas of Yorkshire where you will be a long way from the nearest hospital or mental health facility.

Helloworld56 · 25/06/2024 17:27

Sorry, just seen you need 2 bedrooms.

Blouson · 25/06/2024 17:27

2 bedrooms is needed.

scrapsontheside · 25/06/2024 17:28

@Helloworld56 that's a nice flat but op is needing two bedroom so is priced out of Harrogate ( I believe)
