What do I wear to Taylor Swift - daughter just vetoed my outfit!

Hi,

Off to Taylor Swift on Saturday :-) Feeling like an excellent mother!

I was just going to wear jeans and a t shirt, maybe white jeans and a colourful new flowy top I just got. But she looked horrified that I wasn't making an effort!

I'm in a FB group and people are banging on about outfits, writing a 13 on your hand (no idea!), bracelets. What happened to just turning up and buying an overpriced T shirt?

Daughter picked out a new monsoon dress in yellow I just bought, which is fine for work or floating about on a sunny day, but I think I will feel like a frump at a concert!

I basically have no time now! Unless I head up to Murrayfield this afternoon and hit up the merch truck early....apparently it is already open!

I swear I am haemorrhaging money for Taylor Swift, and I live in the is bloody city!

Dressing up for the Eras tour is a big thing. You definitely wouldn’t be out of place in the yellow dress. However, there will still be lots who are going with the jeans and tshirt combo so that’ll be fine too.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 06/06/2024 09:57

I will be wearing a dress, the person with me, likely jeans and a tshirt, no hard and fast rules.

TheOriginalFrench · 06/06/2024 10:00

The yellow dress sounds as if it will be excellent preserved for all eternity on the next Taylor Swift film!

Wear it. Daughter credit is a valuable commodity.

What Era are you dressing as? 😂 Add a red lip to the yellow dress and you're laughing. I love all the hype, I've seen Era themed snack boards on instagram and everything. It's part of the excitement. You can wear jeans and a top and go to Claire's and get a ton of bracelets for yourself and your daughter

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 06/06/2024 10:06

I'm torn between buying a top there or buying one like this, but I'm not planning on dressing up.

I'm wearing jeans with a "Fuck the Patriarchy" t-shirt and a sequin jacket 😂 I'm so excited now!

HearTheirEverywhere · 06/06/2024 10:09

Oh man I’m dreading this, I’m going to see her in Liverpool with my daughter 😭

Bullshots · 06/06/2024 10:11

Tell your daughter to wind her neck in, seriously.

Katiesaidthat · 06/06/2024 10:11

Well, my 5 year old took the metro at the same time as zillions of people attending Taylor Swift´s concerts in Madrid a couple of weeks ago and everyone was wearing an absolute TON of sparkle and sequins. Usually a sequinned uber short skirt with a t shirt. The funny thing was when they all finally got off at Bernabeu my daughter and other small kids who remained had a field day picking up the shiny bits off the train floor. And yes, the mums I saw had upped their act too, no conservative boring stuff.

IF I was going to Taylor Swift I think I'd be channelling my inner (hidden 50 year old version) Hayley Williams and going in my leather jacket and All Saints top.

Seriously, dress how you feel, anything goes.

Yoopoy · 06/06/2024 10:24

Wear the original outfit if that’s what you want, some people dress up but wear what you feel comfortable in. You’ve made the effort of buying the tickets and taking her, so I’d ignore the no effort comment!

Shantotto · 06/06/2024 10:27

I’m wearing a tour tshirt and some comfy but cool patterned trousers and trainers I can walk in. I’m walking to the stadium which will take me about 50 mins and I’ll be standing for hours! Comfort for me. I did buy a bunch of snake themed jewellery though!

Comefromaway · 06/06/2024 10:32

I personally think the jeans will fit the vibe more than the dress.

ApolloandDaphne · 06/06/2024 10:36

My 32 yo DD is going tomorrow and is wearing a lilac jump suit apparently as a nod to Lavender Haze. I've no idea what her friends are wearing but one has customised her denim jacket for the occasion. They have also made loads of friendship bracelets. I think they have had immense fun getting organised.

Don't forget your trousers like TS did!!!

Caplin · 06/06/2024 10:40

I think I might head up to Murrayfield and have a look at the merch truck at lunchtime. I think tour t shirt and jeans fits my vibe better!

The yellow dress would definitely fit nicely with the Folklevermore era. Taylor's Yellow Dress is famous!

I'd embrace it, OP, honestly. Of course you don't 'need' to make an effort but it is a big part of the fun of going to the tour. Most people will have dressed up to some degree.

As long as you're comfy though - you'll be standing around for HOURS so think carefully about footwear!

Have fun, I'm very envious 😂

Fizbosshoes · 06/06/2024 10:42

My teen DD told me she would style me to go to a Harry Styles concert.
Apparently nothing at all I owned was suitable.
I declined her offer, wore a dress I liked and went with a friend. It was fabulous. As far as know HS neither saw or cared about what an anonymous middle-aged woman in row V was wearing!

wonderingwhatsnext · 06/06/2024 10:48

DD and I are going sequin mad. As she said, how often do you get the chance to wear sequins?

Caplin · 06/06/2024 10:48

Ok, I might do the dress. Just feels wrong for a concert....but I get that it fits a theme. I have seen some pretty wierd and wonderful outfits on the FB page.

I was very lucky and we got hospitality tickets through a friend who is a season ticket holder, so we have good seats, and bottomless bar and food beforehand.

You'll have a whale of a time! As long as the dress is cool and comfy, you won't be out of place at all.

Now you just need a glittery 13 on your hand, a shedload of friendship bracelets and maybe a full-length green velvet cape...😉

CheeseWisely · 06/06/2024 10:56

A friend took her Daughters to one of the concerts in mainland Europe last week and they all wore jeans and TS t-shirts, not as much effort as some maybe but I'm pretty sure they all had a great time none the less!

A cape!!!!!!!! ........ I might just stick to a denim jacket and drink wine!
