What do I wear to Taylor Swift - daughter just vetoed my outfit!

Hi,

Off to Taylor Swift on Saturday :-) Feeling like an excellent mother!

I was just going to wear jeans and a t shirt, maybe white jeans and a colourful new flowy top I just got. But she looked horrified that I wasn't making an effort!

I'm in a FB group and people are banging on about outfits, writing a 13 on your hand (no idea!), bracelets. What happened to just turning up and buying an overpriced T shirt?

Daughter picked out a new monsoon dress in yellow I just bought, which is fine for work or floating about on a sunny day, but I think I will feel like a frump at a concert!

I basically have no time now! Unless I head up to Murrayfield this afternoon and hit up the merch truck early....apparently it is already open!

I swear I am haemorrhaging money for Taylor Swift, and I live in the is bloody city!

Based on the weather forecast for Saturday evening it's going to be chilly and potentially damp heading into the stadium so i definitely wouldn't be going in a floaty summer dress!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 06/06/2024 11:05

The dress is great.

I would maybe bling it up a bit, sequin Cardi or bolero?

I know a jewellery designer selling Swiftie accessories if you’d like her details. All cute and blingy.

Is there an idiots guide for mums on the internet somewhere? I was told sequins but feel I need to be more prepared. I have until
August!

Tell your daughter to wind her neck in, seriously.

Quite.

Wear whatever you're comfortable in. Of your daughter wants to dress up then great but making you feel you have to spend extra money you don't want to is very silly.

rookiemere · 06/06/2024 11:10

Worth checking the weather forecast. It looks like it will be windy and not that warm, although thankfully looks like no rain at the minute.

Personally I'd wear something comfortable that you will be warm enough in as temperatures will go down quickly once it gets dark. Plus expect to do a lot of walking so comfortable footwear.

I'm aware I sound old - that's because I am Grin.

I joined FB group for Murrayfield which has about 20k members, and they are all posting up their outfits and bracelets. There is a shortage of 'E' beads apparently.

But the number 13 things has thrown me, no idea!

Basically look at an album cover, and base an outfit on that. Black and white seems popular with lo-fi mums and say you are the Reputation era.

Be prepared for enormous queues at the merch truck OP - I went to see her on the first night of Paris and the morning before the gig, the queues to buy merch were already about 3 hours long.

For what it’s worth I wore jeans and an “a lot going on at the moment” t shirt and my husband (who is a huge Swiftie) wore jeans and a normal t shirt and, while there was a lot of glitter too, we didn’t feel out of place at all. The Swiftie culture is about acceptance and love - which should extend to outfits!

The merch truck opened a couple of days ago so I might nip up today and have a look before it goes bonkers!

Thank you. I'm just listening to the Spotify tour playlist! I'll start looking at outfits then!

Caplin · 06/06/2024 11:23

Bloody hell! For a T shirt! I ordered one for my daughter off Etsy for £20....hoping it arrives in time!

If Edinburgh is anything like Paris was, it will have already “gone bonkers” - there were queues round the block from the morning of the day before the gig (when it opened) right up until the gig started.

it's proper old school Taylor. Back in her early eras such as Fearless she had a 13 (her lucky number) on the back of her hand and lyrics written down her arm. Fans are replicating that - the 13 is a touch easier than the lyrics!

If you don't want to dress up, don't worry about it. I am because I find it fun and exciting, makes it more of an event. But plenty of people won't, it just feels like everyone is talking about their cool outfits, because the thousands of people going in jeans aren't having similar levels of discussion as there isn't much to say on that.

steamingbeet · 06/06/2024 11:37

i’m wearing jeans and a pink t shirt 🤷

OldTinHat · 06/06/2024 11:40

There is a lovely lady on here who posts every weekend sharing what she's been up to and asking about everyone's plans (I typically can't remember her name but hopefully someone else will know).

She's been posting for months about bracelets and things for her jacket that she's been making for the concert. If you can track her down, I'm sure she'll have great ideas in her posts.

willowtolive · 06/06/2024 11:41

Don't wear the dress if you'll feel like a frump! Wear what you feel good in maybe not the flowy top if your daughter hates it but jeans and top if that's what you like to wear

On the FB group it seems OK and moving pretty fast. If I turn up and the Q is miles long I might just go home! Luckily it is only 15 mins away!

You’re going to be rammed into a dark arena full of excited fans. Who exactly do you think is going to be concentrating on you or what you’re wearing! 🧐

twoandcooplease · 06/06/2024 11:54

I was listening to Forth One reporting the merch open for sale already, it's a good idea if you've a spare few hours but honestly I'd just wear what you already have it's too much faff
The hype is as big as TITP.... I think people are still trying to camp outside until the concert 😅

hanahsaunt · 06/06/2024 11:56

You know she has an actual song called Cardigan 🤣 If that isn't a helping hand then I don't know what is! Dd has signed off on Folklore/Evermore theme with my broderie anglaise top, crochet cardigan and jeans. Sadly not forking out for the gorgeous cowboy boots I found but new hips don't allow just yet. Dd is going full Fearless gold sequins and tassels - sharing in her joy is just the best and despite knowing nothing a few weeks ago, I have embraced fully and cannot wait. See you on Saturday!

It won't be dark, it's an outdoor stadium and it's daylight in Edinburgh until gone 10pm!!

Only my daughter apparently! I gave up caring what anyone else though yonks ago, but she is so excited and has been planning for months....so I might need to show a bit more enthusiasm for the 'getting ready' bit!

TBF, I do have a black and white daisy cardigan from Cider which is pretty cosy....might see if it passes the daughter test!

DD is wearing a purple sparkly skirt with purple sequin top. Her friend is wearing the same but in red (this is something to do with their favourite era ...). They both have a load of bracelets as well.

In a slight twist to OP's dilemma, DD's friend has been put in charge of styling her mum (who is also going with them) and apparently is not sure what to suggest, so I may show her this thread :)

Dayfurrrrit · 06/06/2024 12:04

You won’t be out of place in anything. I wore a shimmery jumper and black jeans, I saw men in red ball gowns. Literally anything goes. The bracelets are fun tho so if you get a chance to make some with your daughter I would! It’s also 3.5 hours (actually probs more like 6) and if your stadium is outside then consider the weather, ponchos!
