What do I wear to Taylor Swift - daughter just vetoed my outfit!

Hi,

Off to Taylor Swift on Saturday :-) Feeling like an excellent mother!

I was just going to wear jeans and a t shirt, maybe white jeans and a colourful new flowy top I just got. But she looked horrified that I wasn't making an effort!

I'm in a FB group and people are banging on about outfits, writing a 13 on your hand (no idea!), bracelets. What happened to just turning up and buying an overpriced T shirt?

Daughter picked out a new monsoon dress in yellow I just bought, which is fine for work or floating about on a sunny day, but I think I will feel like a frump at a concert!

I basically have no time now! Unless I head up to Murrayfield this afternoon and hit up the merch truck early....apparently it is already open!

I swear I am haemorrhaging money for Taylor Swift, and I live in the is bloody city!

Did you buy the tickets? Even if you didn’t, wear whatever you want. Since when did our children dictate to us what to wear to a gig. I would threaten to wear something really embarrassing then your option 1 would seem perfect in comparison.

Nat6999 · 07/06/2024 16:07

Ds has gone to Murrayfield today in jeans, T-shirt & a hoodie it has been raining, so no point in going in anything fancy.

JustMeAndTheFish · 07/06/2024 19:19

I mean I’m going to see The Eagles tomorrow night in Manchester and I’m dithering! I’m only taking a tiny backpack for an overnight stay so I HAVE to have make a decision by tonight
Your yellow dress sounds perfect imho.

Town has been bursting with Swifties all day. Please make sure you're wearing at least some of the following:

Hot pants/ micro skirt
So, so many sequins
Knee high boots
Facial bling
Cowboy hat either on head or on back with string
T-shirt or bag with lyric on it
Strappy dress, no jacket
Jacket with something written on the back
An air of high pitched hysteria discernible only to dogs and fellow Swifties

😍😍😍 Have fun!

I suggest you watch some Taylor tik toks lol

on a side note - it’s actually a huge no no to wear the shirt of the band you’re seeing (apparently, I don’t give a fuck and will always rep who I’m seeing)
think of a swift concert like a Harry styles one, the louder your outfit, the more you’ll blend in, I’m talking cowboy boots, feather boas, Elton John sun glasses, the lot

I have been going to gigs for years and never heard of this “massive no no” — I have always seen plenty of band t shirts at gigs! At the 1975 nearly everyone in the front of the pit had a tour shirt. Liam Gallagher last night was full of oasis shirts. Those are two of my most recent examples. It’s why the merch Q is always heaving!
For TS I’m wearing a lavender haze dress. Personally I’d go for jeans and sequins over the Monsoon dress. The print and long sleeves didn’t give the evermore vibe to me.
ultimately have a great time whatever you wear - it doesn’t really matter. Swifties are making a massive effort because they want to, not because you have to!

I’ve been going too, my last was Tenacious D, they gave us early entry to merch because they thought they’d sell out (they did) nobody had on tenacious D T-shirts though 🫢
Like I said, apparently it’s a no no, it’s not one I adhere to.

I'm so jealous! we couldn't get tickets, me and dd1 are huge swifties so I'm gutted but loving this thread ,can feel the excitement coming off ye. op that yellow dress is gorgeous ❤️

Suzypoo10 · 07/06/2024 20:20

My daughters are wearing white dresses draped in garlands of “Poison” Ivy and Daisies.

One of them has travelled from Bath to Edinburgh and the other from the West Midlands.

Pres11 · 07/06/2024 20:58

This dress is amazing!

Jeannie88 · 07/06/2024 21:03

Wear anything u want, just make sure you have comfortable shoes! Xx

Kjpt140v · 07/06/2024 21:31

Ask your daughter.

Bellie710 · 07/06/2024 22:59

My DD has been doing a fashion show tonight for tomorrow nights concert! I think she has decided on pink jeans and a vey skimpy white top with leather jacket. I'm amazed at the amount of effort required for this concert!

Bowies · 07/06/2024 23:08

I’m so glad I am (NOT - vital edit!) being dragged out to this but also I wear want I’m comfortable in when I do go and ignore fashion advice. The hospitality sounds nice though.

Crumpetsssss · 08/06/2024 00:28

I was there tonight. I can confirm that most people were dressed up: lots of cowboy boots, cowboys hats, sequins, frills etc.

no one would notice or care if you weren’t, but I think you’ll feel ‘part of it’ if you do. The yellow dress would be perfect.

NattyTurtle · 08/06/2024 01:00

You are an adult, wear what you want!

Rainbow21 · 08/06/2024 01:03

Just back from Murrayfield. Wear whatever you're comfortable with - there were lots and lots of sequins and cowboy boots but also lots of dresses, jeans and t-shirts. It did get get quite chilly towards the end due to the wind. For the people interested in the timings - Paramore were fab and came on just after 6pm. Taylor made her entrance just after 7.15 and finished just before 10.45 Excellent show and I have one happy teenager! Enjoy!!

BigBundleOfFluff · 08/06/2024 01:49

Just back - we literally got tickets at 5pm tonight so no chance of a snazzy outfit for me! I was the boring middle aged mum but it honestly didn't matter. There were all sorts there but mainly sequins.
It was cold. Need to bring a jacket! Oh and make plenty of bracelets, some serious swapping going on.
It was brilliant!

BeRoseBee · 08/06/2024 04:23

Can the people who were at Murrayfield tell me what time Taylor was on stage please? Not bothered about the support act and don’t want to arrive too early!

Can you also tell me what time it finished please.

Zanatdy · 08/06/2024 07:23

I’d go with jeans and a T-shirt over the dress. Seriously I wouldn’t worry, if youngsters want to dress up that’s fine, but I would be wearing normal concert attire which for me is jeans and T-shirt!

thedevilinablackdress · 08/06/2024 08:02

@BeRoseBee a PP has listed the times a couple of posts up from yours

A huge no no according to who?

I was really upset at the mess of sequins and feathers at the Harry gigs last year. It was all over Edinburgh. I do wish they would say to the fans 'don't buy this cheap shite that just ends up in landfill'.

TerfTalking · 08/06/2024 09:28

DD (27) was there last night with a friend, friend wore sequined pants and a crop top, DD wore US flag skinny jeans (from student days dressing up box) and bright red lipstick. And the beaded bracelets of course.

There were lots of VERY ordinary dressed people on the pics, jeans, sweatshirts etc and a lot were wearing coats, it looked cold.

NeedWineNow · 08/06/2024 10:17

Watching the report on the news this morning there looked like a lot of glitter, sequins and cowboy hats - even the blokes! It looks as though she was fabulous, you'll have a great time!

On a separate note I didn't know about the no no to wearing a band t-shirt. Me and DH are off to Stratford to see the Foo Fighters in a couple of weeks and we are both wearing Foos t-shirts. I'm fact I might even get a new one from the merch stall if we get there early enough 😁

NoNameisGoodEnough · 08/06/2024 10:44

I have a sequined bomber jacket that I am wearing with jeans and pink converse. I'm not sure what era I am but that's what I'm wearing for Liverpool on Friday!
