What do I wear to Taylor Swift - daughter just vetoed my outfit!

Hi,

Off to Taylor Swift on Saturday :-) Feeling like an excellent mother!

I was just going to wear jeans and a t shirt, maybe white jeans and a colourful new flowy top I just got. But she looked horrified that I wasn't making an effort!

I'm in a FB group and people are banging on about outfits, writing a 13 on your hand (no idea!), bracelets. What happened to just turning up and buying an overpriced T shirt?

Daughter picked out a new monsoon dress in yellow I just bought, which is fine for work or floating about on a sunny day, but I think I will feel like a frump at a concert!

I basically have no time now! Unless I head up to Murrayfield this afternoon and hit up the merch truck early....apparently it is already open!

I swear I am haemorrhaging money for Taylor Swift, and I live in the is bloody city!

I'm wearing a pale pink tulle skirt and a denim jacket that matches my daughters ( hers says "here's to my mama" and mine "had to listen to all this drama") and I'm in my lover era apparently .... I figure if it makes my daughter happy I'm all for it 🤷🏻‍♀️

you will be in a stadium with 60k - 100k fans. if in the seats everyone will be looking at the stage/screen and if on the pitch all eyes are on the stage. is it hot/cold/wet? Your deluxe spangly outfit wont be much use in a downpour. Prob going to have to walk a long way to get to/from the ground etc. then there will be the toilets. Will your/their prom dress touch the floor? All the usual stuff, just where what you want to wear not what a 15 yr old thinks will look good on Instagram. This is what it will cost you.

Posters - £15

Tour hoodies - £65

T-shirts - £40

Sweatshirts - £65

Water bottles - £15

Canvas tote bags - £25

I'm so glad my DDs are old enough to go by themselves. My next gig is the Foo Fighters. I feel jeans, t shirt and leather jacket will be fine for that!

DD and I are going sequin mad. As she said, how often do you get the chance to wear sequins?

And add more micro plastic to the world 😉🌍
3 cheers for Barbie doll Taylor swift and her women empowerment through sequins

Mangomanga · 06/06/2024 13:07

Op, if you like yellow dress then go for it. Why do you call it frumpy, you just bought it

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 06/06/2024 10:06

I'm torn between buying a top there or buying one like this, but I'm not planning on dressing up.

Me neither. I'll be wearing this T-shirt and jeans. Thats as much dressing up as I do!

TakeOnFlea · 06/06/2024 13:30

The yellow dress, denim jacket, cowboy boots or converse

I've now just twigged why there was probably a lot of sequin in m and s the other day..

I’m going tomorrow and - looking at the weather report - was going to wear a sweater and my Big Coat. No? 😂

MarkWithaC · 06/06/2024 13:54

So let her be horrified. I presume you've paid for the tickets, will get the two of you there and back, sort out paying for feeding you etc – she should be grateful rather than 'vetoing' what you're wearing.

I realise this is the no-sense-of-humour post, and I DO honestly have a sense of humour Grin ; but honestly, give yourself a break, OP. Once you're there she'll forget all about what you're wearing in all the excitement.

shearwater2 · 06/06/2024 14:13

I think if I accompanied my daughter she would be very happy if I wore something like jeans and a nice top and didn't try to look like a true fan rather than a dilettante who likes the odd tune.

I thought that was down to Pride Month not Swift.

TorturedPoetDepartment · 06/06/2024 14:28

I was at the merch at 6pm last night.. in and out in 20 mins. £80 down for a hoody and poster though 😂

Hecatoncheires · 06/06/2024 15:17

@TorturedPoetDepartment £80 for a hoodie and a poster is actually pretty good. I got a Billie Eilish hoodie for my DD’s birthday recently and it alone was £90!

@Caplin As others have said, wear what you feel good in. That dress is lovely. Or embrace the madness and wear a fully sequinned midnight blue dress bought from Vinted like me. Mid-50s and plus size. Will not look like myself but it’s an occasion my DD and I will remember forever so I’m running with it. In my comfy trainers cos that’s where I draw the dressing-up line.

Hope you both have the very best time!

It is a gorgeous dress for work, or wafting around on a summer’s day. But doesn’t feel very sequinned concerty IYSWIM.

I am back from the merch Q where Taylor scraped away what was left in my bank account.

Got a nice blue crew neck for me, and hoodies for the kids along with a poster and bracelets….Now I can go straight to the hospitality bar and get my money’s worth of street food and inclusive wine before the shenanigans begin!

Yes it was actually not too bad.. was surprised the tapestry was only £15 too but didn't think DH would allow it in our bedroom!

I joined FB group for Murrayfield which has about 20k members, and they are all posting up their outfits and bracelets. There is a shortage of 'E' beads apparently.

But the number 13 things has thrown me, no idea!

Basically look at an album cover, and base an outfit on that. Black and white seems popular with lo-fi mums and say you are the Reputation era.

You should have gone to the Taylor Swift course at Glasgow Caledonian Uni that was designed for mums and plus ones. They explained all this, apparently 😂

Have a great time. I wish I was going now.

Dartmoorcheffy · 06/06/2024 15:53

Bloody hell, what happened to just going to a gig in t-shirt and comfy jeans 🤣🤣

I'd actually be scared to wear a floaty dress when I'm going to be crushed up in crowds of people in case it snagged on something or someone stood on it.

dairyfairy21 · 06/06/2024 16:00

I would wear a cream / white vest top (cropped or not) - black cargo trousers. With either wedges or trainers. X

mitogoshi · 06/06/2024 16:01

Apparently this costume lark is a big thing. I'm going a bit later so still waiting for a more accurate weather forecast. If cooler jeans it is, I don't care though I might get a sparkly top from a charity shop/local facebook page pleading.

Sounds like what you’d wear to an All Saints concert 20 years ago!

There's lots of ideas online too, here's one good website:

If warmer I'll wear one of my folk gig dresses!
