It’s May next week. The longest day of the year in seven weeks.

It’a currently 8 degrees and raining.

I am still wear my winter wardrobe.

This must be the worst spring on record. Where is the sun.

This is probably my fault as I bought two new tee shirts a couple of weeks ago on a rare sunny afternoon and ever since then it’s been freezing cold and/or pissing it down. I would like to formally apologise to everyone on the thread.

CormorantStrikesBack · 28/04/2024 11:49

It’s going to be 18 degrees and dry on Tuesday apparently.

But it’s April? Not summer yet. You have June, July and august to come and it’s often warm into September.

Yes, this.... April showers?!

September was baking hot last year and even the end of October was warm enough for my DC to go in the sea!

Namechange4226 · 28/04/2024 11:52

But I do agree that we never seem to have nice springs anymore... Most recent years have gone from cold and/or wet to baking hot.

Lucky you...forecast is 13 degrees and raining on Tuesday for me.

Elebag · 28/04/2024 11:54

sash spring 2007 and the Olympic year were both awful weren't they.
Still cold in Hampshire.

AStepAtaTime · 28/04/2024 11:57

As from tomorrow we are seeing a jump to an average of about 16 degrees for the next 2 weeks. But it will still be raining/cloudy a lot of the time. It has been a very cold and wet winter/spring so far. I am seriously thinking of booking a holiday in the med for the school holidays this year as last year it fucking rained rained rained

CosmosQueen · 28/04/2024 11:58

@Thegreatgiginthesky not according to the bbc! 🙄

OMG the weather

But that was last year…

Exactly... Off the top of my head, I can remember in recent years:

2018: (As I had two under two for a couple of months! 🫠) was literally hot from about March to September. I remember going to the park at 8am because any later was just unbearable.

2019: July and August were definitely hot as I remember having an interview and starting a new job in an office with no A/C.

2020: Lockdown, pretty much nice from Easter all through the summer. We occupied the DC with a walk in the morning and in the garden all afternoon. I remember thinking that actually we were spending more time outside than we did normally.

Last four years, can't remember exact years: The one year it got very close to 40 degrees (I think it was 36-38?) on several days... On one of the hottest days we had a water/power cut 🤯

Then obviously the record-breaking year.

So last year was actually a bit of a relief for me (and we did still have some mega hot days - particularly in June and July, sports day last year was horrible! Plus September was really warm too).

Apology NOT accepted 🤣

Trinity65 · 28/04/2024 12:06

Fed up of it now too
In my 59 Years I only remember two other awful Aprils (one Year of which it actually snowed and settled on my birthday which is the second week of April)
Neighbours went to a BBQ yesterday as it had long been planned. Were home within a few hours as outside was a washout and the house not that big.

GingerPirate · 28/04/2024 11:28

Yes, Summer hater here.
Wish it lasted.
Soz! 😁

Will you be happy to pay inflated food prices or go without because the farmers can't grow anything?

Don't be so selfish!

DazedAndKerfuddled · 28/04/2024 12:07

Im so with you all! This rain is just depressing, its the first year Ive felt confident enough with myself to want to wear sun dresses in a long long time and the day never seems to arrive 😩 I also have a yearling id love to be doing some more hands on work with yet the rain is the ultimate distraction for her baby brain 🤦🏼‍♀️

So ready for some sunshine now!

Hiker50 · 28/04/2024 12:11

Climate crisis. I wish the government would take water and food security seriously instead they're spending billions sending a few people to Rwanda.

The weather is crap and I feel so desperately sad for farmers.

CherryBombe · 28/04/2024 12:17

It's horrible!

My cat is missing and the thought of him out in this cold and wet is making me lose all hope he will come back!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 28/04/2024 12:22

I'm very south Warks & it's really not been pleasant bar a handful of days. I don't want a heatwave, just some nice sunshine & average temperatures. Instead we've had rain almost everyday & it's pretty much constantly overcast & cool <10°. We've only had to cut the grass once.

TimeInBlue · 28/04/2024 12:27

Don’t give up hope, mine came back after 3 months!! It’s better for them to be missing in this weather rather than the boiling sun because if they are locked in somewhere there’s hope they could be drinking rain water/condensation. Hope he returns soon 💐

AndromedaGalaxyBar · 28/04/2024 12:30

I actually decided to get into some waterproof trousers, coat and wellies and go out anyway last couple of days. I’m not going to pretend it was a glorious experience because it would’ve been so much nicer if it was sunny and warm, but I did feel better for getting some fresh air, as did my DS. I miss blue skies!

Bless You

He is probably waiting for a lull in the rain and then pelt home.

It's wrecked my garden. The lawn is just dreadful. Full of moss and bare patches from sitting water

Same. My garden was already quite boggy. I'm going to have to consider gravelling at least part of it. It's the only option for me now as I don't want hard paving or artificial grass. DD and I are currently trying to design a Japanese style affair to make it as asthetic as possible.

ChaoticCrumble · 28/04/2024 12:53

I am surrounded by tomato plants I want to get outside and start hardening off but it's way too cold still. Wahhh!

EatCrow · 28/04/2024 12:54

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/04/2024 09:39

I mean, I get that it’s miserable to have this as our weather now, but - you do all get that this is what climate change means? I’m not sure why everyone’s complaining about it as if it’s unexpected! Humanity globally is getting the weather it deserves. If we wanted better weather, we shouldn’t have fucked up the atmosphere!

Why did they change it from ‘global warming’?

thegrumpusch · 28/04/2024 12:57

truly, we live on a cursed isle

existentialpain · 28/04/2024 12:58

It's dreadful. My SAD is going to be really bad this autumn if we don't get a decent summer after this ridiculous non existent spring.

walnutcoffee · 28/04/2024 13:01

I love the rain.
