It’s May next week. The longest day of the year in seven weeks.

It’a currently 8 degrees and raining.

I am still wear my winter wardrobe.

This must be the worst spring on record. Where is the sun.

Looking at the forecast it does seem to be the last miserable day today. Temperatures rising to 18 and no rain next week!

Not here it isn’t (south Gloucestershire)!
4°, feels like 2° here at the moment and rain forecast for every day for the next two weeks 😵‍💫
I can totally sympathise @eatsleepfarmrepeat , it’s shite. A farming friend says that they’re probably going to write off sowing anything until the autumn because their land floods but what used to be once every few years has become four times so far this year ☹️
We farmed until 25 years ago, it’s a pretty thankless job for too much of the time.

It’s in Glasgow! My son went back to uni there this week and said it’s been roasting! 😎

Cotswoldbee · 28/04/2024 09:37

Away in the Moho for a cheeky mid-week break (an advantage of being retired is that you can go when most people are at work). Haven't yet been away this year when it hasn't rained but on the plus side, when walking through the countryside with the Ddogs it may as well be somewhere new rather than at home.☔

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/04/2024 09:39

I mean, I get that it’s miserable to have this as our weather now, but - you do all get that this is what climate change means? I’m not sure why everyone’s complaining about it as if it’s unexpected! Humanity globally is getting the weather it deserves. If we wanted better weather, we shouldn’t have fucked up the atmosphere!

sashagabadon · 28/04/2024 09:40

We had a terrible spring in 2012 as I can remember the Olympic torch travelling round the U.K. in torrential winds and heavy rain almost everywhere then it miraculously perked up for the actual Olympics.
hope it’s not a repeat of 2012

Simonjt · 28/04/2024 09:42

We live in Sweden, its been warmer here in Stockholm than most of the UK for quite a few weeks. Bonkers.

Is that roasting, or roasting for Glasgow?

As these are different things by quite a significant margin.

It's just so cold!

I had a FB memory thing come up the other day from 2020, I think it was. It was 18c. The same day in 2024 was 5c.

I could deal with the cold a bit better if it also wasn't so wet most of the time at the moment!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 28/04/2024 09:45

RampantIvy · 28/04/2024 08:54

Depressing isn't it.

All the summer haters will be rubbing their hands with glee.

I feel for the poor farmers who are losing lambs and who can't plant anything.

25 degrees, sun, a bit of cloud and a pleasant breeze is my optimum but even I've had enough of this. I'm still wearing layers, fleece track pants and having a hot water bottle at night. And the heating is still on.

And you can BET there'll be hosepipe restrictions, as well.

lol fair point!! Sunny not raining is a win 😂

Chunkycookie · 28/04/2024 09:48

I’m toilet training a puppy.

I thought this time of year would be the perfect time.

I’m always cold.

elevens24 · 28/04/2024 09:48

It hasn't rained where I am in about a week (after raining everyday for months) and had the warmest day of the year (18 degrees). It's been bright and sunny and warmish in the sun but freezing in the shade. Very cold at night though. I've been sleeping with a dressing gown on.

effoffwind · 28/04/2024 09:51

Totally agree
It's miserable

Grass has been cut twice so far this year
Probably does need another now but it's either raining or it's pissing it down

I'm back in thick socks and dressing gown over my clothes as just cannot keep heating on all the time

focacciamuffin · 28/04/2024 09:51

Somebody sent me this the other day, published in 1841. It seems that cold, extremely hot, incessant rain, wind and generally miserable weather are not a new thing.

OMG the weather
BarrelOfOtters · 28/04/2024 09:54

We’ve got lovely weather for a change, it’s such a relief after months of cold grey damp soddenness.

it’s been utterly miserable. I’m sitting in the garden with a cup of tea and this weekend is the first time I’ve been able to do that since for ages.

RampantIvy · 28/04/2024 09:58

Can people say what area they are in when talking about the weather, as it clearly isn't the same everywhere. It was dull here in South Yorkshire yesterday, but sunny on the north east coast where DD lives as she sent me a photo from her walk.

focacciamuffin · 28/04/2024 09:59

It’s been dry here for the last couple of days, but now it’s back to rain again.

Topofthemountain · 28/04/2024 10:01

We were discussing the weather in the office as we watched a hailstorm through the window. Points made that this is totally unusual, however on that day my FB memories had spoken about it being so cold you could see someone's breath, and blizzards. A couple of days ago we had snow (2017 I think).

The amount of rain is perhaps more unusual, but it certainly isn't always warm and sunny this time of year.

Tessisme · 28/04/2024 10:01

It is beautiful now near Belfast. But still quite cold, despite the unidentified round yellow thing in the sky.

Yesterday the bastard weather forecast told me it was going to be dry all day. It bloody well wasn't as my washing got two extra rinses I didn't sign up for.

I'm fed up with the cold, but I'll take it over rain and wind any day.

I'm Northeast, yesterday was lovely in-between the mad rain showers.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 28/04/2024 10:03

Normally in london its much better than the rest of England. It is one of the worst weather conditions for March and April since we've been in London.

The last 3/4 years it even more windy - last year, miserable summer with lots of wind then an unexpected early Sept, summer-like weather

I'm glad we/my parents moved to London all those years ago from the constant miserable weather in the north

Ihateboris · 28/04/2024 10:04

Yes! Completely sick of the rain...having to wipe down three muddy labradors three times a day is no fun.
Just checked out the forecasts for my area. Although the temperatures are rising, rain is still predicted!!

OMG the weather
Hedjwitch · 28/04/2024 10:04

We have actually seen some sunshine here in Scotland this last week. After months and months of relentless rain, the sun has put in a welcome appearance. Still a cold wind though.
I am crediting my mother with the improved weather: it meant her funeral on Friday took place under blue skies and we all sat out in the garden for a while ( with blankets to hand).

Are you looking at the met office? It looks pretty good to me - 18 degrees, 19 on Thursday, although a little more sun would be good.

Jeezitneverends · 28/04/2024 10:12

@Hedjwitch thank you for your mum’s influence! Having sunshine for a funeral does help make it slightly more bearable on such a hard day 💐
