I was in the U.K. last year and I’ve got photos of me in April in jumper and jeans, carrying my coat. I remember after half term was lovely as my son was on camp, and we had about 3-4 weeks of lovely weather. Then shit through the holidays. A boiling week in September and then just winter. This was the SE.
I moved back to Sydney in January and it’s amazing how much more jolly I feel. I hadn’t realised how flat the dark and dingy days had made me. It wasn’t even the cold, just the everlasting overcast skies. Like being in a room with the lights dimmed all the time.

And the historic weather chart that @focacciamuffin posted?
Climate action policies from government invariably ends up with us having to pay more money and the leaders of the world laughing all the way to the bank.

First point- climate denial
Second point - yes we do have to pay for it. Everyone is paying for it and the cost of the climate crisis will only grow. Economic, social, food security, geopolitical stability costs…

That’s my point - we have no choice but to lobby Govs to take urgent action with fair cost sharing. Or you’d rather not bother? Sit back passively and see what climate your grandkids inherit???

DolceGustoooohCoffee · 28/04/2024 13:30

Still have our heating on here, it was 2°c last night, has rained non stop since yesterday afternoon with no sign of it stopped before tomorrow. I do love the cold, grey, miserable weather but my strawberries and cherry tree just started flowering and they need sunshine

Vote Green Party for less wind and rain, is that what you are saying? Come on.

If climate on earth is impacted by humans, the more pressing issues is the 80million that gets added to it every year, not whether Julie next door uses plastic straws instead of paper ones.

Edited

No that’s not what I’m saying.

I’ve never voted Green as I am strategic and pragmatic and with our system of government they don’t have a chance of getting power in England. Much as I think a power sharing coalition with the Greens as an influential junior partner (as in Germany) can be a good model.

The urgent climate action we need is beyond day to day individual actions, although these are worth something. It’s huge social and political change mostly reflated to fossil fuels. I work in this area at the international level and I know electorates - public opinion - has some power to push governments to make these decisions. Especially at election times. But I assume you’re playing stupid and you know this already.

ThomCruise · 28/04/2024 13:39

Yep, 6 degrees here yesterday and rain all day. I did hot yoga and it was such a treat to walk into such a lovely warm room.
Then puffa jacket back on for the walk home 😒

It's dreadful. My SAD is going to be really bad this autumn if we don't get a decent summer after this ridiculous non existent spring.

I get SAD and this winter was my worst ever, I haven’t coped. I’m seriously worried about how I manage it going forward as our weather is only going to get worse.

I massively struggle too. It's the dark, gloom and grey skies that I cannot cope with. I start to feel the doom around October....and it's just awful. One day I hope to live in another country. If I could wake up every day to blue skies, I'd feel so much better

AWeeTripDoonTheWatter · 28/04/2024 13:52

I got sunburned this week! Weather has been glorious. Another one on the west coast of Scotland. That’s probably summer over for us though.

TheaBrandt · 28/04/2024 10:54

The “snug indoors with hot chocolate” gets old after 8 months surely? summer haters who must be in heaven this year.

As I previously stated, not this one

There's a big difference between wishing the rain would stop and the sun come out and enjoying sweltering 30+ degrees and humid, sweaty nights being bombarded by insects.

Why did they change it from ‘global warming’?

Why did who change what from global warming?

EasternStandard · 28/04/2024 13:58

It’s 8 degrees and raining so I concur it is cold

This looks like the last day for such bad weather, next week low 20s which will be so much nicer

Southwest12 · 28/04/2024 13:59

It's a glorious day here in Liverpool. 10c, blue skies, sunshine. Have been sat in the garden.

redboxer321 · 28/04/2024 13:59

Those of you who hope to live in another country than the UK... what is your plan?
I regret not moving to Australia but I never had the right job to give me the points. That's long gone now.
Europe is out thanks to Brexit or at least free movement with the EU is out.
So I kind of feel stuck here which is pretty depressing.

Comedycook · 28/04/2024 13:59

The phrase nowadays is climate change but yes years ago they called it global warming. There's the classic ali g sketch where he says due to global warming, the UK could become as hot as Ibiza...let's make it happen 😂

passtheajax · 28/04/2024 14:06

There's only really two seasons here now.

Cold and wet most of the time and a bit warmer, but wet for a few months in the middle. Perhaps two rare weeks of dryness in June or July.

The sun looks like this ->🌞 if I remember correctly.

User135644 · 28/04/2024 14:07

Went to watch the last day of the season yesterday at my local team and was cold in a beanie hat and coat.

Normally it warms up through April and you get a bit of sun at least, even if it's hit and miss. It's the constant high winds that cause a lot of the cold.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 28/04/2024 14:16

So made it out in the garden to do some jobs
barely there five minutes and it's raining again
Football last Saturday was sunny and warm
yesterday back in thermals
just want to give up
need to run today at some point
hopefully will have stopped raining by then

RampantIvy · 28/04/2024 14:25

walnutcoffee · 28/04/2024 13:01

I love the rain.

Oh do go away.

Have you even read the posts about the dire state of farming due to the weather?

Yes i have read about it but nothing i tcan do about it its just my favourite weather the same as winter time I love it.

Oganesson118 · 28/04/2024 14:43

It does seem to have been a poor spring. But that's just Britain isn't it! My in laws moved here from a sunnier country and spend their entire life whinging about how they miss the sea and sun. Honestly, if that's your number one priority in life, why on earth move to the north of England.

It’s true we’ve lost spring and sort of list proper winters too. The winters now although cold and wet, are nothing like the winters of my childhood (70s and 80s). Those were icy cold, with snow every year. We had a sledge and it got good use, I even remember my mum using it to drag the food back from the shops!

TheseLegsDefinitelyUsedToBeLonger · 28/04/2024 15:50

I know April can be a bit odd weather wise but this one has really been strange. Last week was sunshine and hailstones for days. It’s pissed down most of the weekend. Now the sun is out but it’s going to drop to 5 degrees tonight. I can’t keep up!

We can get EU passports via H being half EU.

Then it's money.

That's the plan. Hopefully spend summers here winter Europe, basically follow a 20-30c temperature round, don't mind a bit cooler.

Yeah they really regret using global warming as it did make people think they would get the settled predictable European weather and that's just not what is expected.

frozendaisy · 28/04/2024 15:59

And if the jet stream stalls we are truly screwed in the UK. Then it's Siberian winters all round.

But hey no one really cares, not really, not enough people anyway.

We are tying to convince the nippers north America looks like a better place for adult life!
