Professions you would never date after working with them

I’ll start - surgeons.

One of them told me his wife was a GP -“because only one of us (him) could have a proper career”

Also - the overriding narrative that every female who complained about their outcome or consultation had “mental health issues”. They just couldn’t conceive that anyone would complain about them.

Police Officer.

whatajoke26 · 09/03/2024 13:33

IT worker, the two I've dated had really poor personal hygiene, think women are useless at problem solving and addicted to smoking weed. Oh, they also think gaming for 12 hours a day is OK. They also had a terrible lifestyle which involved no exercise and eating junk food.

Lordofmyflies · 09/03/2024 13:36

Police Officer too. Sorry.

RedBellEnd · 09/03/2024 13:42

Sales

Every sales person I've been out with has been a habitual liar!

IncompleteSenten · 09/03/2024 13:44

Commission only salesperson.
Estate agent.
Police

Another one who wouldn’t date a police officer if I was on the dating scene…I know how negatively dealing with stuff for over 20 years has affected me, and I’m not an officer, so nope

Dearg · 09/03/2024 13:46

Politics. Make salesmen look like angels.

Revealingall · 09/03/2024 13:49

Anyone who regularly has to work away from home
Military of any kind except medics
Anyone who works for a weapons manufacturer

AstralSpace · 09/03/2024 13:49

@Ettubrutus I wonder if we know the same surgeon or they have v similar lives and traits. He often sneers at his GP wife's job and says it's not a proper career.

For me, it's a police officer. The ones I've met have left me feeling sorry for their partners.

Let's just wheel out a load of stereotypes shall we.... I am close to at least two of the professionals mentioned here (and their spouses) and can confidently say that I see no reason not to marry them. Some individuals may not be likeable, but you can't assume that a whole profession are exactly the same.

Temuaddiction · 09/03/2024 13:52

Police

Indeed, mumsnet exists and runs on stereotypes.

Any high-flying or high-pressure job with long hours and a bad work-life balance. Sadly there are a lot of those kinds of jobs about, not all well paid either, and although many of those roles are vital to our society and I am grateful to the people who do them... I wouldn't want one as my partner in life.

arethereanyleftatall · 09/03/2024 14:02

Not after working with them, but after 50 years experience...

  1. Police (misogyny is so rife there, it would be almost impossible to not be)
  2. Surgeon (was married to one, arrogant, superior)
  3. Pilot (wouldn't trust them)
MrsSchrute · 09/03/2024 14:03

Why police or military? All of the people I know in both professions are lovely!
