Professions you would never date after working with them

I’ll start - surgeons.

One of them told me his wife was a GP -“because only one of us (him) could have a proper career”

Also - the overriding narrative that every female who complained about their outcome or consultation had “mental health issues”. They just couldn’t conceive that anyone would complain about them.

Not after working with them, but after 50 years experience...

  1. Police (misogyny is so rife there, it would be almost impossible to not be)
  2. Surgeon (was married to one, arrogant, superior)
  3. Pilot (wouldn't trust them)

I get the police or surgeon but why not a pilot if i can ask?

The phrase "a girl in every airport" springs to mind.

Refrigeration engineer never again. Crazy hours on call out and heavy labour always tired.

Pilot = high likelihood of being serial shagger.

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/09/2024 13:04

Yes pilots are definitely serial shaggers in my experience. I did have a chuckle when my prolific cheat of an ex-h qualified as one. Something he's never shown the slightest bit of interest in until he disappeared off with OW. How she didn't know the rep is beyond me!

An MP or a bailiff.

A few years before i met my now partner i dated and almost wed a police officer.

He thought he was gods gift to any woman under 40.

When we went out anywhere he was watching anyone for signs of suspicious activity he was never relaxed always on duty.

What made me ditch him was when me and him went a his colleagues engagement party. The fiancee looked depressed and he asked me if i was good at ironing when my fiancee said i was he replied good we like our collars starched properly.

I went home that night and couldnt sleep properly and when i woke up i realised i had a nose bleed in the night.

Two days later i phoned his mums house and i told him i didnt want to see him again. He called me a spoilt brat. This was in 1996.

He was 4 years older than me. He left uniform for CID and became a DI. He had to retire at 41 due to a mental issue and his wife left him after 7 years.

What's the nosebleed got to do with the party ?

I put the nose bleed down to anxiety.

Can't remember what I said upthread, but I know quite a few women who are married to very senior lawyers (think partners in big firms, or KCs). They pretty much all complain that their husbands aren't remotely involved in domestic life and they carry the load entirely on that front.

It IS a tradeoff because these men earn megabucks, and the women lead extremely nice lifestyles as a result (and usually don't work, having given up their own careers when kids were young). It may seem a bit world's tiniest violin, but I do see a lot of resentment and distance in these marriages tbh.

Immam/Rabbi etc - I'm a Christian so our beliefs wouldn't be compatible.Immam/Rabbi etc - I'm a Christian so our beliefs wouldn't be compatible.

Well you probably shouldn't marry any religiously observant Muslim or Jew of any career then, not just Imams and Rabbis. Or any athiests for that matter.
