Professions you would never date after working with them

I’ll start - surgeons.

One of them told me his wife was a GP -“because only one of us (him) could have a proper career”

Also - the overriding narrative that every female who complained about their outcome or consultation had “mental health issues”. They just couldn’t conceive that anyone would complain about them.

Not worked with but due to past history anyone who’s ever been in the military. Especially marines. I’ve seen how it can mess up your mental health and yet it’s still instilled in them that they don’t talk about their problems and feelings which makes it a million times worse

@PleaseBeHappier is on 🔥today.

No male PE teachers for me. Out of the five I have known, one has fathered a child with a pupil, two have had relationships with sixth formers, and the other two are manslags.

Never date a vicar. They'll only try and altar your personality

Lead singer/guitarist. Women literally throw themselves at their hot, sweaty post-concert bodies. I live with one. I trust him and am secure in the relationship but think if I was 20 years younger, I wouldn't have been able to cope with it.

anyone we know?

kittybiscuits · 09/03/2024 15:04

Police. Never

PleaseBeHappier · 09/03/2024 15:05

My ex was a welder. What a melt

Answering the question, rather than just who I don’t think I’d have a relationship with. I’d be highly sceptical of starting a relationship with an academic, particularly those working in medical education. Some of the biggest god complexes I’ve ever seen. The cultures which pervade in medicine have a small but not insignificant role to play in the fuckedness of the nhs.

Was about to say the same... not a lot of kindness and often a lot of misogyny.

However I have dated quite a few engineers and they have been very lovely in the main.

Cattenberg · 09/03/2024 15:06

Having seen how badly some solicitors treat their staff, I wouldn’t risk working for one and I’d think very hard before marrying one.

PleaseBeHappier · 09/03/2024 15:09

Had to dump the opera singer. I owed him a tenor

oldgreysquirrel · 09/03/2024 15:09

Doctors, of any kind!

TheFireflies · 09/03/2024 15:10

Prison officers

Why police or military? All of the people I know in both professions are lovely!

They generally struggle to keep it in their pants. I can’t comment on the military but 30 years as a cop has taught me that many many many of them would make terrible partners. Affairs and divorces are rife. Of course there are others who are lovely, but that’s not what the thread is asking.

ohfook · 09/03/2024 15:11

Teacher - I'm one and as a profession we're quite bad for talking about work outside of work and also thinking we've got a hard lot. Also I wouldn't want to spend all of my holidays with someone else.

BeretInParis · 09/03/2024 15:12

Get over yourself @Theworldismadness. I’m using hyperbole to be satirical.

evilharpy · 09/03/2024 15:13

Door staff and bar staff. Worked in bars and clubs for a few years and the married door staff were just devoid of any sort of loyalty or morals. The male bar staff were bad but the door staff were far worse.

Female bar staff just did the job and went home, I never knew one to cheat on a partner.

As a teenager I used to think I'd never date a bus driver as I worked in a newsagents in a bus concourse and a ridiculously high number of bus drivers were shagging various teenagers in the concourse shops!

When we were in our late teens, one of my friends used to hang out with a bus driver called “Uncle Perv”. When I said he sounded dodgy, she said “noooo, Pervy’s lovely!” She said he used to let her ride around on his bus for free. I bet he did.

On Mumsnet you'd never know to be honest as people genuinely say stuff like this all the time on here. Apologies if I was wrong.

My friend is ex-military and recently divorced from someone who is also ex-military. They've both separately said that, apart from the obvious, they believe that mental health issues in ex-servicemen can be in part attributed to how much they build you up when you're still serving. Being told that you're the best of the best for years on end - strongest, bravest etc then coming out of it and realising that you're just normal and people aren't falling over their feet to employ you is probably a pretty big head fuck.

DanceMumTaxi · 09/03/2024 15:22

Military. Just because they might have to go away to different conflicts and I’d be so worried.

cerisepanther73 · 09/03/2024 15:25

Just curious @arethereanyleftatall hy wouldn't you date a Pilot ?
another poster with same opinions, as yourself too,

@Jasmin1971

Just curious wouldn't date a spy ?
You are obviously not acctracted to James Bond glamour and adventurous spirit ect 😂

Whataretalkingabout · 09/03/2024 15:26

Plumbers. They are stuck up.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 09/03/2024 15:30

Every sales person I've been out with has been a habitual liar!

There is a distinct personality type who is very successful in sales. It's something most of us find difficult and uncomfortable but the thick skinned, low empathy, pushy, manipulative sociopath does not. And he'll have no qualms about lying or gaslighting to get what he wants, either.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 09/03/2024 15:32

Plumbers. They are stuck up.

Really?! Ask any tradie. They'll all tell you that's the electricians. Think they are a cut above the rest on site apparently. Admittedly they do need to be fairly bright as most tradepeople go, and usually have quite an analytical physics/engineering type brain so perhaps they are not wrong.
