Professions you would never date after working with them

I’ll start - surgeons.

One of them told me his wife was a GP -“because only one of us (him) could have a proper career”

Also - the overriding narrative that every female who complained about their outcome or consultation had “mental health issues”. They just couldn’t conceive that anyone would complain about them.

Police.
Most I knew were misogynistic, abusive, racist, homophobic, violent, cheating, sexual predators.

TotalDramarama24 · 09/03/2024 15:34

Why wouldn't you date a Pilot ?

I know a few pilots and I'm friends with their wives. They are never home. Their wives end up going to parties and social events alone all the time. Do most of the parenting by themselves. And if he's going to be unfaithful it's the easiest job to shag around and get away with it.

CoffeeWithCheese · 09/03/2024 15:37

Social workers - never met a male one who had a clue about the world, but they all have a voice you can hear from miles away in the office we share with them and obnoxious opinions about everything under the sun that they never ever ever bloody shut up sharing.

Alwaystransforming · 09/03/2024 15:38

Police officer. I grew up in a family with quite a few police officers in it. And by default lots of their friends were also in the Police. That’s both police men and women.

Door men. I have dated a couple of door men. Wouldn’t do it again. Again due to circumstances, I knew quite a few.

Armed services. I don’t really fancy a relationship with someone who could possible not be here for large parts of the year. If they could guarantee they would never be posted abroad for months on end, I could be flexible on this one.

Alwaystransforming · 09/03/2024 15:39

Oh and on line dating I don’t date anyone who is ‘CEO’ or ‘MD’ either. Or who has entrepreneur on it.

My friend is ex-military and recently divorced from someone who is also ex-military. They've both separately said that, apart from the obvious, they believe that mental health issues in ex-servicemen can be in part attributed to how much they build you up when you're still serving. Being told that you're the best of the best for years on end - strongest, bravest etc then coming out of it and realising that you're just normal and people aren't falling over their feet to employ you is probably a pretty big head fuck.

Sadly my ex went into a profession where they were falling over themselves to employ him and he still got to act the big man. Even when he got caught committing a criminal offence he was defending himself in the newspaper article comments with ‘you should be grateful I served your country and kept you away from war’

Neverpostagain · 09/03/2024 15:40

Police. Absolute wankers the vast majority of them. Men and women. The decent ones, the whistle blowers are managed out or worse. I literally cannot imagine any situation where I would happily deal with them.

Pilot
Lawyer
Postman - exh
Fireman - current husband
DJ - exh
Paramedic
Butcher
Police - ex fwb

So you've had two ex husbands and a third, current husband you don't like either?

Meadowfinch · 09/03/2024 15:41

Newspaper journalist - utterly devoid of ethics or decency.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/03/2024 15:44

A consultant surgeon! One of ours comes to see his patients when he's not even on call. And tells his wife he's going for a walk. And cancelled his own surgery to operate on a patient!

cerisepanther73 · 09/03/2024 15:50

@Ettubrutus
I would be a bit Wary on gaurd about dating dating military 🪖 personal as be concerned about the high increase of extreme mental health issues and how that impact future potential of relantship,
Sorry
I have enough mental health issues dealing with shit childhood experiences going through so called children's homes 🏡 care system..

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/03/2024 15:53

Police officer, they’re all having affairs with each other!

TwigletsAndRadishes · 09/03/2024 15:32

Plumbers. They are stuck up.

Really?! Ask any tradie. They'll all tell you that's the electricians. Think they are a cut above the rest on site apparently. Admittedly they do need to be fairly bright as most tradepeople go, and usually have quite an analytical physics/engineering type brain so perhaps they are not wrong.

Plumbers are stuck up. @TwigletsAndRadishes .

I was joking. I have always had fantastic plumbers. Generous, hard working and a sense of humor.

honeylulu · 09/03/2024 15:54

Musicians. Hedonistic man children. (Some might be OK but I dated a few in my youth and they were all as above.)

Why pilot?

Is the shagging around reputation true?

I thought surgeon would be right up there!

Yes it is true. I’m sure not all of them but yes it is true. Some examples.

One I knew died in a light aircraft crash ( he was an instructor) and when he died 2 women other then his wife came forward. The guy was in his 70s! Each thought they’d been with him 20-30 years.

Another one had a wife who ran off with a tradesperson. He said ‘obviously I’ve slept with women all my adult life but it was just sex. Didn’t run off with them.’

Ex husband - serial cheat.

it’s rife.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 09/03/2024 16:03

I know two surgeons, both are arrogant, self aggrandising twats who think they know more than anyone about everything. I can't extrapolate this to the entire profession but on my anecdotal experience I would not consider them good partner material.

Re whoever asked me why pilots?

Well, Any job which requires hotel stays where you're with your colleagues is so so open to cheating. But, plus, I did aeronautical engineering at uni - the boys on my course who were training to be pilots were actually interested in the job because of the shagging opportunities! I'm sure there are some lovely ones, but I couldn't be arsed with the worry.

Also, I've been on tinder in my time. The amount of 'from New York (or wherever) in London in business on 21st March. And one up for dinner and a shag?' Is appallingly high.

pantsalot · 09/03/2024 16:08

Is it surgeons that have a high rate of psychopaths?

EmpressSoleil · 09/03/2024 16:08

No one who can work from home. I already wfh and if it got serious I couldn't handle having another person around me all day.

Personal trainer, although none would want to date me either I'm sure! I do exercise moderately but I've never set foot in a gym and never will. Anyone obsessed by all that is not for me.

A controversial one maybe, but anyone who hasn't progressed past minimum wage. I'm in my 50s (and would be dating people my age) so the lack of ambition throughout their life would be an issue for me. I don't need a high flyer but just someone who is roughly equal to me in career and intelligence. I also like doing things like wkends away and am fine with paying my half but they'd need to be able to pay their half.

pantsalot · 09/03/2024 16:08

Is it surgeons that have a high rate of psychopaths?

Well, yes, because to be able to do such a job they need to be able to detach emotionally. So they need to be!
