Professions you would never date after working with them

I’ll start - surgeons.

One of them told me his wife was a GP -“because only one of us (him) could have a proper career”

Also - the overriding narrative that every female who complained about their outcome or consultation had “mental health issues”. They just couldn’t conceive that anyone would complain about them.

Surgeons are no good.

Long shifts, not knowing when they’ll be home, expect the other parent to take the brunt in child rearing and house keeping.

They may or may not shag other colleagues. There is always someone in line for that to better their lives but in reality they are too tired to even fuck with their wives.

They think they are superior and irresistible and that the mundane stuff is for the partner to deal with.

Run for the hills, life is not glamorous and you’ll only be seen as a servant and someone convenient to have dinner ready for them.

A friend from school almost married a consultant anaesthetist. He didnt like her working she was a uni lecturer in humanities. He thought she should be at home to make him brekkie evening meal etc.
Havent thse people heard of a microwave.

Teacher- I'm one. Politician or councillor, someone who worked in an abbatoir, someone in a group that gigs- want to be able to do things together at weekend.
Anyone with a high fly career that means they constantly working

Edited

Anyone who kills or tests on animals is a big no no for me.

What’s the difference between God and a pilot? God doesn’t think he’s a pilot 😂

Ha ha like it.

You win pun of the day.

A surgeon just wouldn't cut it for me

Pun of the day goes to you.

Margo2023 · 14/03/2024 02:23

@ScierraDoll I am a lawyer, often advocating for women's rights and women who have suffered extreme violence. Would you still call me and my colleagues c$nts? Shame on you and you're narrow views

Firefighter - I'd be so scared of them being killed every time they left for work.

Police - same reason as above re worrying about them every day.

Teacher - I'm a teacher and, whenever I'm with teacher friends, 75% of the chat seems to be school related. Couldn't do that in a relationship.

Armed Forces - too much moving around and no control over where you get sent when.

Foreign Office - wouldn't want to live abroad for a long period of time.

Warehouse work/cleaner/retail assistant - probably don't earn enough money to help support a family and I'm not exactly earning a fortune so I couldn't afford to be with someone earning minimum wage. And - huge snob alert - I'm not sure I'd have much in common with most in these lines of work.

Fishmonger or Butcher - I can't cope with the smell of raw fish or the thought of raw red meat.

Immam/Rabbi etc - I'm a Christian so our beliefs wouldn't be compatible.

Politicians from political parties I don't support - our beliefs and principles wouldn't be compatible.

Racing Driver/BMX Racer/Extreme Sports Athlete - I'd fear for their lives too often.

Any Computing based profession - I find it confusing and boring and would want to ban AI. I tend to find IT professionals slightly confusing and boring too.

Psychiatrist - I'm officially crazy so I'd feel constantly diagnosed and analysed.

Pilot/Flight Attendant - I'm terrified of flying. I assume they'd want to travel a lot and, although I love travelling, flying is an absolute last resort for me if there's no other possible way of getting somewhere. And I'd be scared of them crashing every day.

Funnily enough, I'm single 😛

Wow so what occupation would you date.

Why police officers?.
Not all are bad. I ts like saying all doctors are like Shipman.
I met a cop when i reported my soon to be ex spouse.
He is tall dark and hot.
We have had some fun including in a elevator. Must think he is Steven Tyler lol.

You’re absolutely right, there are many decent police officers. I’ve been married to one for thirty years. He’s not your typical cop. But there are also many who can’t keep it in their trousers. Out of all the police couples we knew who were together when we got married there is only one other couple who are still married.

@CheekyPombear further to that the Plice officer who had a relationship with you, a dv victim at a vulnerable time in her life committed misconduct offences. So he wasn’t that great and you prove my point.

The irony of this statement is shocking.

You are backing up why people have such a low view of Police Officers.

Let's just wheel out a load of stereotypes shall we.... I am close to at least two of the professionals mentioned here (and their spouses) and can confidently say that I see no reason not to marry them. Some individuals may not be likeable, but you can't assume that a whole profession are exactly the same.

But when choice exists, applying a stereotype is just a way of filtering your options. Similar to no kids, no one under 6ft etc.

Perfectly valid

Full time musicians (except maybe classical) and artists. Musicians are always busy in the evenings/weekends/for months when on tour. Both of these professions seem to attract people with their head in the clouds. Also, they generally don't make much money and just accept it

Interestingly, the two most switched on couples I know are two married musicians and two married arty types- they say they have to be because the industries are so full of hot air and broken promises.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 14/03/2024 12:03

@CheekyPombear you realise a police officer was jailed for something similar in the wake of the murder of Sarah Everard?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 14/03/2024 15:17

Quite a lot of people working in those types of roles are working there because they are either paying their way through studying for qualifications, or because the hours suit them. I'm a retail assistant with a first class honours degree who needs flexible working hours. You might have plenty in common with many of them.

My partner and I respective jobs been mentioned loads, we are pariahs on this thread. We Get to be dysfunctional megalomaniacs together. The sphere of our evil ambition is oppressively huge.

Christ. This is professional misconduct. You were a crime victim. He’s a sleazy opportunist.

I genuinely hope you reflect on the circumstances of your meeting
The power imbalance
Cop dating DV crime victim really inappropriate. Definitely misconduct

You just dropped it in there , all casual, like it’s a regular meeting

Haha, I don't know - I'm not good with relationships at all. But, hypothetically, I have no problem with some of the most commonly cited no no professions on this thread - doctors, NHS workers, lawyers, mental health nurses, social workers, bankers, academics, accountants, actors, musicians and musical theatre people all absolutely fine with me. I'd also happily date: dentist, vet, HR, 'general office work', charity workers, vicar/minister, biologist/physicist/chemist/geologist etc, artist/designer, conservation/forestry, engineer, author, librarian. Lots of things, I guess.

Shagging a witness, which is what a DV victim is, to a crime that a copper is involved investigating, is serious professional misconduct and compromises the neutrality of the investigation.

This is worse when the witness is deemed vulnerable, like DV and rape victims are.

You have added to the reasons not to date coppers, not subtracted from them.

echt · 14/03/2024 21:42

Teacher.

I'm so glad my late husband wasn't a teacher. His job was higher status and better-paid but didn't have the constant evening and weekend work. The idea of competing for the table to do marking!!!

Like others on this thread, I wouldn't date a male IT worker and I work in IT. Too much correlation between "works with computers" and "spends excessive time video gaming".

I'm glad for the work that NHS staff do and at the same time I wouldn't want to date someone who worked nights, weekends, etc, which rules out a lot of NHS workers.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/03/2024 14:36

Farmer. Been there, done that.

It looks like a lovely lifestyle, but in reality there are NO days off, can't go away on holiday because it's always a critical time, if it's lambing or calving you're up and down all night. Little shits setting fire to equipment sheds or feed stores can ruin your entire year - farmers are often living on their last nerve and I wouldn't go out with one again.

Also writers. I am one, and I wouldn't date me, also have lived with one. Far too much time spent talking to people who don't exist, who do everything you want. The reality of real people with their own opinions can be hard to deal with. Also unavailable when on a deadline (which is, from my experience, bloody nearly always).

Are you me?

Antonio85 · 14/03/2024 22:41

Ewww yeah. Massive red flag. To DV victim. Vile behaviour. Seriously you need to severly question this situation and prob should report him. Dont you read the news. Be very careful.
