If you had to live near an ice rink?

If you had to live near an ice rink anywhere in the uk, where would you live? I want to move within walking distance of an ice pad and I have no connection to anywhere. Please can you hit me with your excellent suggestions? 🙏

Whitley bay!

AhBiscuits · 02/03/2024 18:39

How far is walking distance for you?

Singleandproud · 02/03/2024 18:40

As a child I lived near Ally Pally, bet those houses are £££££ now though

SgtJuneAckland · 02/03/2024 18:41

Surely most places other than very rural are within reasonable distance from an ice rink

Collywobblewobbles · 02/03/2024 18:42

Which part of the country do you like now, op?

Raywayy · 02/03/2024 18:42

Maybe 45 mins walk max? But as near as possible.

Guildford or Streatham

Raywayy · 02/03/2024 18:43

I don't really have any particular affinity to anywhere in the uk.

Altrincham.

Topofthemountain · 02/03/2024 18:44

Do you have a budget for housing? Being near Solihull ice rink is going to be a lot more expensive than Billingham for example.

mnahmnah · 02/03/2024 18:47

Not Deeside! Avoid.

Raywayy · 02/03/2024 18:47

I will be renting and I will be at the more budget end of the market but it may not be a permanent move. Hoping for a house share.

Another vote for Altrincham.
The ice rink is a 5 minute walk from my house!

Donthideyourlight · 02/03/2024 18:49

Dundonald in NI - budget friendly!

Singleandproud · 02/03/2024 18:49

@SgtJuneAckland you've clearly never been to Norfolk. No ice rinks or diving boards in the whole county or Suffolk (or motorways) for that matter we have to trek 3 hours drive to Cambridge if we want to use either.

Raera · 02/03/2024 18:50

Sheffield south Yorkshire, thinks there might be one in Barnsley too

What part of Norfolk are you in that Cambridge is 3 hours away?! 2 max even from North Norfolk.

Does that mean the one on Norwich (more or less next to the big Asda) has closed?

There's Planet Ice in Peterborough

Runninghappy · 02/03/2024 18:55

Sheffield or Nottingham.

shellyleppard · 02/03/2024 18:55

The link centre in Swindon has a good ice rink

There's none in Cumbria.

feathermucker · 02/03/2024 18:56

Connah's Quay in North Wales has an ice rink. I imagine housing would be cheaper than other areas.
