If you had to live near an ice rink anywhere in the uk, where would you live? I want to move within walking distance of an ice pad and I have no connection to anywhere. Please can you hit me with your excellent suggestions? 🙏

Malvern in Worcestershire! The rink might be too small for you though.... lovely part of the country to live in though.

Andthereyougo · 02/03/2024 19:11

Swindon Ice rink is surrounded by housing.

Parkermumma07 · 02/03/2024 19:13

Blackburn if you want somewhere very cheap

StrawberryJellyBelly · 02/03/2024 19:13

Dundee

Bernadinetta · 02/03/2024 19:14

There’s an ice rink in Billingham

Mazuslongtoenail · 02/03/2024 19:14

Altrincham

Surely most places other than very rural are within reasonable distance from an ice rink

You can’t be more wrong. There are non on the south coast except at Gosport near Portsmouth.

Whitley bay!

Yes!

Tulipvase · 02/03/2024 19:17

Oxford had one but the area isn’t cheap.

butmumineedit · 02/03/2024 19:19

Nottingham is one of the best and housing can be cheap depending upon where you live in Notts

Nottingham, has a great ice rink on the edge of the centre of town. You could walk there from lots of different areas depending on your budget.

Seconded - Nottingham has 2 Olympic size patches. There are a lot of apartments in the city too if you are looking for a flat share.

You can view the timetable for both patches for the next few weeks here - https://www.national-ice-centre.com/ - scroll right to the bottom for On Ice Schedule

Gosport? Although not as big as some of the others.

Why do you need to live so close to an ice rink? As it might be relevant.

we have one close to us but it is usually booked by the different ice hockey teams, childrens ice skating lessons, curling etc so there is very limited public use.

I won't have a car and skating will be the sole reason for my move. I will be booking patch ice a lot so I won't always be there during the limited opening times. It's often very early in the morning so I don't want to be miles away with no car and buses unlikely to be running at those hours.

Ally Pally in North London. Beautiful area and a great-sized rink where professionals also train.

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 02/03/2024 19:24

Nottingham 😊

bossybloss · 02/03/2024 19:24

Check Widnes… I think there’s still one there. Cheap property too.

Marmite27 · 02/03/2024 19:24

There’s one near Elland Road in Leeds. Probably on the cheaper end housing wise, due to the area. It’s a planet ice rink, and the Leeds Knights play out of there.

FenellaBestwick · 02/03/2024 19:25

I 2nd Ally Pally in Muswell Hill. When you're off the ice you can watch the stars of dancing on ice practising. Depends on housing budget though. A houseshare is about £850pm

Cambridge

Came here to say this.

lostinlego · 02/03/2024 19:25

How early in the morning, Nottingham buses are good and start at 5 am, so you could have more choice of areas too.

aband · 02/03/2024 19:27

Strange criteria. Unless you are professional?

I live in one of the main cities. My DDs go regularly. Surely the closest city to you has one?

Februaryfeels · 02/03/2024 19:29

Kinross

Although lots of rinks in Scotland prioritise curling over skating

LucyTeatime · 02/03/2024 19:30

I think Sheffield offer good monthly deals for patch ice.
