THIS IS A LIGHTHEARTED THREAD - MNHQ

I’m sure most of us will often think of extremely sad/distressing stories that we’ve come across in the news. This thread is about news stories that have stuck in your mind for the opposite reason. What news story do you often think of and why?

I often think about the news article where the police officer was sacked because he scanned a £9.95 pack of Krispy Kreme doughnuts as 7p carrots😂😂😂😂 I laugh because how have you risked your whole career for a £10 pack of doughnuts? Absolute madness. Here’s the story below if anyone hasn’t read it before. What’s yours?

What a doughnut: Cop who scanned Krispy Kremes as 7p carrots sacked

The panel concluded that Pc Read breached professional standards of honesty and integrity and that this amounted to gross misconduct.

I will never forget this story from 10 years ago - DM Headline : “Married BBC presenter Paul Ross admits he cheated with man he met dogging and snorted meow meow drug off his face - but his wife stands by him”

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2738913/amp/Married-BBC-presenter-Paul-Ross-admits-cheated-man-met-dogging-snorted-meow-meow-face-wife-stands-him.html

To be honest, I wish I could forget it! 🤮🤣

CeeChynaa · 12/02/2024 14:47

@BigBarm oh my gosh😳😳 I’ve read the full article and I’m so invested. Honestly, some people live crazy lives. The picture of him and his wife made me laugh so much though, total batshit😂

Those blue ankle boots he's wearing 😂😂

LaPalmaLlama · 12/02/2024 14:54

the Sun’s headline when Keith Chegwin had to go to rehab - “ Cheggers drinks pop”.

Also all the drama about whether Richard Gere did or did not put someone’s hamster up his butt.

I don't really have anything to add was just reading through the thread.

2008 when Shannon Mathews went missing.
I was in Dewsbury on that day and watched all the double decker busses with police on drive in.. hundreds piled off to go look for her.
Then l watched The Moorside.
We know what happened to The Mother.
I just hope Shannon is in a good place now.

I think it was a gerbil? Freddy Starr must have eaten the hamster

Frank Bough and his sex dungeon. 🤢

Yozzer87 · 12/02/2024 15:14

Lucy Letby. Evil apparently comes in all forms. I remember reading about the case when she was arrested the first time and when I mentioned it to people they had never heard of it. Even now she's been found guilty and sentenced to a whole life order, the case is not mentioned a lot in the media, possibly to protect the identities of the victims.

The story of the woman who gave birth in a yacht out in some island place and left her DD at home. She couldn't get BC or passport for the newborn.

Thread here about it and her friend waded in to try and convince us all it wasn't a stupid idea she didn't think through properly.

I've often wondered - and hoped despite her and her DHs stupidity- they got home to their other child.

the80sweregreat · 12/02/2024 15:17

Hew Edwards , how the bbc has to report it as if they had no idea who the ' bbc presenter ' was. Until his wife made a statement on his behalf. It was a very baffling week of news items for them

ShirleyPhallus · 12/02/2024 15:20

Anthony Worrell Thompson stealing cheese

and in more serious news, I’d love to know if the children from the Annercy stabbings recovered

Sherrystrull · 12/02/2024 15:48

The disappearance of Amy Bradley. I think of her often.

On the lighter side, when Judy Finnegan's top fell open during an awards show and John Leslie rushed on stage to tell her and help her cover up.

ScottyDoesntKnow · 12/02/2024 15:52

Raoul Moat. That was just such a dramatic but ultimately tragic few days of news.

Those poor people stabbed in Nottingham. I can't stop thinking about them. My son is a student there and lives in the next street.
That CCTV of them walking home makes me cry.

MissRheingold · 12/02/2024 15:59

I thought the thread was meant to be about amusing or uplifting news stories?

Clawdy · 12/02/2024 16:11

Yes, it was meant to be fun!!

StopTheBusINeedAWeeWeeAWeeWeeBagOChips · 12/02/2024 16:18

One I read in the 90s, it was in the staffroom at work so was some shitty tabloid.

A guy had decided to put poprocks under his foreskin, then decided not to shower for a couple of weeks, then got an infection and need some type of surgery to sort it. Then as if that wasn't bad enough he sold his story and a sad face photo to the paper.

The headline was something like "pop rocks hurt my cock" 🤣

I can't remember who it was but one newsreader definitely said "Huw" instead of "who"

The newspaper headline I always remember was a sports story - "Super Calais go ballistic, Celtic are atrocious"
