THIS IS A LIGHTHEARTED THREAD - MNHQ

I’m sure most of us will often think of extremely sad/distressing stories that we’ve come across in the news. This thread is about news stories that have stuck in your mind for the opposite reason. What news story do you often think of and why?

I often think about the news article where the police officer was sacked because he scanned a £9.95 pack of Krispy Kreme doughnuts as 7p carrots😂😂😂😂 I laugh because how have you risked your whole career for a £10 pack of doughnuts? Absolute madness. Here’s the story below if anyone hasn’t read it before. What’s yours?

What a doughnut: Cop who scanned Krispy Kremes as 7p carrots sacked

The panel concluded that Pc Read breached professional standards of honesty and integrity and that this amounted to gross misconduct.

The sons not knowing is horrific I agree. And their joy at thinking he had returned only to find the truth.

But the rest is just one ludicrous half-arsed event after another.

The story of the farmer flummoxed at how his sheep managed to cross a cattle grid

one was then seen doing a 70’s action film style side roll across the grid 😊

I can’t bear to think about anything to do with children.
The James Bulger murder happened on this very day in 1993 , making it 31 years ago exactly.

Having a son who has just turned 3, I sometimes imagine him going off with older children to play with. Ironically, today he was playing with two of his twin cousins who are both 10 and it really made me think of that horrible case.

The Tamworth Two.
Two Tamworth pigs who escaped an abattoir in the 90s and went on the run. There was a huge search for them and it made international news. The got called Butch and Sundance by the media. When they were eventually found, one of the tabloids paid the owner to spare their lives, so they got to live out the rest of their days in an animal sanctuary. For some odd reason they cross my mind quite a bit 🤣

The story of the woman who gave birth in a yacht out in some island place and left her DD at home. She couldn't get BC or passport for the newborn.

Thread here about it and her friend waded in to try and convince us all it wasn't a stupid idea she didn't think through properly.

I've often wondered - and hoped despite her and her DHs stupidity- they got home to their other child.

Yes! I remember this and often was wondering myself what happened to them .

“Sausage-addicted kookaburra too fat to fly.”

My absolute favourite headline that I’ve ever read. Apparently they had to catch the poor thing and put it on a diet before releasing it again. 😂

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/02/2024 05:57

Jonathan Ross's brother, Paul Ross, married father of five, having an affair with a man he met at a dogging site on a roundabout in Maidenhead and getting addicted to meow meow. And then his wife deciding to stay with him!

sashh · 13/02/2024 06:05

I like to read local newspapers they can be gold. Sometimes just the birth announcements are gold but my favorite headline was:

No Nando's for Burnley - this was the front page story.

A pub had closed and the building was empty. Someone said to a friend, "That would make a good Nando's" and the idea spread.

The Burnley Express then explained they had phoned the head office and no it wasn't going to be a Nando's.

The video hamas released of the kidnapping of 19 year old girl Naama Levy, hands cable tied behind her back, Achilles tendons cut and the seat of her tracksuit bottoms soaked in blood, being pulled by her hair, pushed into a jeep while people cheer.

The canoe man who faked his death and was living next door for years is an absolutely cracking story even now.

Did anyone see, "the thief, his wife and the canoe"?

It's on Netflix or catch up or one of those places.

SabrinaThwaite · 13/02/2024 06:35

Got to love the Buchan Observer’s headline on Trump being elected.
