Tell me about a story in the news that you often think about

THIS IS A LIGHTHEARTED THREAD - MNHQ

I’m sure most of us will often think of extremely sad/distressing stories that we’ve come across in the news. This thread is about news stories that have stuck in your mind for the opposite reason. What news story do you often think of and why?

I often think about the news article where the police officer was sacked because he scanned a £9.95 pack of Krispy Kreme doughnuts as 7p carrots😂😂😂😂 I laugh because how have you risked your whole career for a £10 pack of doughnuts? Absolute madness. Here’s the story below if anyone hasn’t read it before. What’s yours?

What a doughnut: Cop who scanned Krispy Kremes as 7p carrots sacked

The panel concluded that Pc Read breached professional standards of honesty and integrity and that this amounted to gross misconduct.

Not the news but I often think about a bloke who went on embarrassing bodies because he was worried his bum was leaking poo, only to be told he just wasn't wiping his arse properly. I think about him at least once a week and how mortified he must have been😂😂😂

That poor fucker lives rent free in my head too! Sometimes I'm just going about my day and a thought creeps into my wee brain and its, "remember the bloke who did properly wipe his arse on telly". 🙈😂

Eww! I didn't know that and he was my MP at the time. I remember that he got gay prostitute(s?) to dress up as footballers. I wonder which team he supported?!

throughgrittedteeth · 14/03/2024 06:19

@Lwrenn hahahaha that's exactly what I do! He wasn't young either, so had he been wiping his arse wrong his whole life?!

Yorkshiregold · 14/03/2024 06:34

I also have spent too much time thinking about the man who didn’t wipe his bum properly.
But I also remember reading Sheryl Crow saying that you should only use 1 piece of toilet paper when you go to the loo or maybe 2 or 3 if you really have to for environmental reasons.
So then I wondered if his Mum thought like Sheryl (or if his Mum is Sheryl Crow) and he’d been taught to only use 1 sheet of toilet paper 😂

He mustn't have! Oh the shame! My DP struggles with second hand embarrassment really badly so if he gets on my tits I start talking about this and he just wanders off shaking his head!

That poor, shitty arsed man. I hope the poster who suggested he was just a creep with a fetish was right, because oh the shame 😂

OK, so I know it's now several pages back but the Paul Ross story is bothering me!!

In the headline and main text it says his wife was sticking by him BUT under the photo (of happier times) it says she's move 100miles away.

Which one is it!!!!!?

That’s really made me chuckle. 😂

AnImaginaryCat · 14/03/2024 07:14

Oh sorry, in my outrage about the unclear news reporting about Paul Ross' martial status I forgot my news report.

The second hand embarrassment for the poor man who reported it and the fuss made before it turned out to be a hole some people dug at the beach!!!

Omg I had to cover my mouth from howling at that video for fear the neighbours would think I was being attacked

I don’t know the answer but got heavily invested and read the Wikipedia page for his mother 🤦🏼‍♀️

It gets mentioned a lot in our household too! I remember the doctor saying something along he lines of “you need to revisit your wiping technique” which we regularly use in various situations 😂

Only last year: the woman who got stuck upside down behind a sofa in a pub after having a "bottomless brunch" for about 10 minutes and had to be pulled out by two male members of staff.

This is ridiculous🤣

More recently I’ve been thinking about the swarm of bees interrupting play in the Indian Wells tennis tournament.

Omg😭 that’s absolutely awful. I would have asked for them to not air the episode!

Another one that I often think of is the girl who held in her farts around her boyfriend for 2 years and ended up having her appendix removed because of it! https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/teenager-says-ended-up-hospital-26614802.amp

For some reason this story entered my head last night. (No idea why - first time I read it was on this thread!!)

How weird that she wouldn't fart in front of her boyfriend but now is in a national newspaper talking about it. That's some turn around!!!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/03/2024 10:51

Seriously - Sarah Everad - I grew up in SW London, lived very close to where Sarah was walking home from, and know the route she took home. Mum look ran cold as that story broke.

Lighthearted - Michael Fish's weather forecast in Oct 1987 saying there wasn't a storm on the way, a few hours before a huge storm hit the southeast. (I have subsequently said something in my job, which had similar - albeit more localised - impact).

And a really silly story in lockdown about a preschooler who ordered 20kg of onions on her parents supermarket app.(not convinced by this one, as mine goes through many security tiers).

Right🤣 now the whole of the UK is able to read about the situation!
