Camilla if Charlie pegs it?

sick of listening to a blow by blow account of the kings prostate and some other unknown area of his anatomy that is in bother.

But it did set me thinking about the OW, Camilla. Am sure Charlie will provide for her from his personal wealth in his will, but what on earth would we be expected to call her after Charlie’s death?

I mean we cannot call her the Queen mother like Queens Liz mother, she has no biological relationship with the royals at all.

In my experience adult step children grin and bear their parents new spouse but rarely stay in touch after the parents death. You only have to look on the posts here to know that.

It would, I suppose, be up to King Willy, could be a source of amusement for none royalist folk like me,

Listening to endless royal experts waffle on about it all when it happens.

I just a thought…

The OW? They’ve been married nearly 20 years..

TeenLifeMum · 06/02/2024 18:56

The queen mother was her title… it wasn’t “the queen’s mother”, so I assume it’s the same title but who knows with our monarchy’s weird rules.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 06/02/2024 18:56

This'll upset the Royal watchers

This. She's his wife, not the OW.

Acatdance · 06/02/2024 18:58

Thread title is very insensitive - I'm not a royalist but Charles and his family are human beings and deserve the respect one would accord to other human beings.

In answer to your question, she would still be Queen Camilla. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother only used that style to avoid confusion with her daughter. The previous dowager Queen continued to be known as 'Queen Mary' after the death of George V.

dayswithaY · 06/02/2024 19:01

If you’re not a royalist, then why do you care what they call her?

BarelyLiterate · 06/02/2024 19:01

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the last widow of a king, had a new title invented for her ; ‘Queen Mother’.

In the event of Charles’ death, I assume Camilla would revert to being Duchess of Cornwall, but they may decide to make up another new title for her. Making it up as they go along is what they have always done with her, after all.

Shinyandnew1 · 06/02/2024 19:01

I think the Queen mother was called, Elizabeth the Queen mother, to distinguish her from Elizabeth, the Queen. Queen Mary was also the Queen mother, even though she was mother of the king.

Camilla would prob be referred to as Queen Camilla.

ownedbymydog · 06/02/2024 19:01

You have summed up, OP, the utter ridiculousness of this institution. Now Elizabeth has gone Surely it’s time for the ‘royal family’ to just gently expire? Not literally (best wishes to Charles and all that) just constitutionally.

TeenLifeMum · 06/02/2024 19:02

@ownedbymydog really? You think presidency would be better? I disagree.

sprigatito · 06/02/2024 19:02

God @MNHQ can't we start moving all this shit into the Royals section?

ToffeeShocker · 06/02/2024 19:02

OW ffs, get over it.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/02/2024 19:03

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother only used that style to avoid confusion with her daughter

And because QEQM didn't want the title Dowager.

Head of state by accident of birth!? Madness.

CreateHope · 06/02/2024 19:05

@TeenLifeMum of course presidency would be better - a system like they have in Ireland where we get to vote for our head of state is infinitely preferable to this bunch of no marks.

And PLEASE don’t respond “who wants president Blair!?!?” 🙄

SnapdragonToadflax · 06/02/2024 19:05

Probably Queen Camilla. And I imagine it'll be Queen Kate rather than The Queen, especially if it happens fairly soon.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 06/02/2024 19:06

The Dowager Queen or just Queen Camilla

This is how pretty much all widowed queen consorts have been referred to, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was referred to differently because she had the same name as her daughter so there was potential for confusion and because Queen Mary (still alive when QEII became queen) was already known as the Dowager Queen.

Allegedly the Queen Mother who had been widowed young also didn't want to be referred to as a dowager because it sounded old.

CreateHope · 06/02/2024 19:06

Dowager is an awful title 😳. Still it comes with unparalleled perks and privilege so one mustn’t complain 😄

Russoooooo · 06/02/2024 19:07

I don’t think we need to worry too much about the logistics of her future life. First off, she’ll be well looked after financially, and secondly, doesn’t she have her own home anyway? Next door to her grandchildren? I’m sure I read that she tends to be a very hands on granny and her and Charles spend a lot of time (happily) in separate houses.

That’s not to say she’d find his death easy, of course not, but that the logistics would be the least of her worries.

CurlewKate · 06/02/2024 19:08

Queen Dowager, I assume?

couiza · 06/02/2024 19:08

So will there be two queens, the dowager queen Camilla and queen Catherine?

That'll be interesting, and one queen will be the step MIL of the other.

It's going to costalot.
