Camilla if Charlie pegs it?

Karensalright · 06/02/2024 18:54

sick of listening to a blow by blow account of the kings prostate and some other unknown area of his anatomy that is in bother.

But it did set me thinking about the OW, Camilla. Am sure Charlie will provide for her from his personal wealth in his will, but what on earth would we be expected to call her after Charlie’s death?

I mean we cannot call her the Queen mother like Queens Liz mother, she has no biological relationship with the royals at all.

In my experience adult step children grin and bear their parents new spouse but rarely stay in touch after the parents death. You only have to look on the posts here to know that.

It would, I suppose, be up to King Willy, could be a source of amusement for none royalist folk like me,

Listening to endless royal experts waffle on about it all when it happens.

I just a thought…

My gosh, how utterly rude and distasteful your thread title is.

I'm currently sat coughing my guts up here. due to secondary BC In my lung!!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 06/02/2024 19:27

I reckon Camilla, the Queen Dowager. They won’t want Queen Mother as it does rather imply she’s the mother of the monarch, and that’ll upset the Diana fans.

I thought Queen Mother wasn’t made up for Elizabeth B-L, but was an older title not usually used as Dowager was seen as more impressive. Wasn’t Margaret Beaufort (Henry Tudor’s mum) the first one who used the title? Something about her not being the dowager as she’d never been the queen, but was the mother of the King. (It was a very long time since I learned about the war of the roses and may well have misunderstood)

This. She's his wife, not the OW.

Mumsnet considers any wife that is not the first wife to be the other woman, to be held in contemp by the respectable first wives.

Whilst technically she'll be Dowager Queen, she'd be known as Queen Camilla in the same way as George V's wife continued to be referred to as Queen Mary or Queen Alexandra before her. The title of Queen Elizabeth's mother was an anomaly as they couldn't both be referred to as Queen Elizabeth.

This. There can be multiple Queens at any one time. The Queen Mother was actually Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

@Cosycover because our recent elected leaders have just been so awesome 🙌 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

But that’s exactly the point! We can vote them out. We didn’t when we should have, I’ll grant you that. 🤣

Look at the OP thinking how clever and amusing she is with her deliberately provocative thread and nasty comments.

Exactly! Nasty piece of work OP!!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 06/02/2024 19:29

To be fair @Honeychickpea - she was the OW before becoming the wife. (And also to be fair to Camilla, rumour has it she wasn’t the only OW.)

Malarandras · 06/02/2024 19:30

Never heard the term ‘pegs it’ before and frankly I wish I hadn’t - it’s not very pleasant. Why can’t you just use the word ‘dies’? Death is not that scary that we can’t use the proper word for it surely?!

TeenLifeMum · 06/02/2024 19:30

CreateHope · 06/02/2024 19:05

@TeenLifeMum of course presidency would be better - a system like they have in Ireland where we get to vote for our head of state is infinitely preferable to this bunch of no marks.

And PLEASE don’t respond “who wants president Blair!?!?” 🙄

Thank you for the clarification on how I as a grown adult can respond. Would I want any of our prime ministers from my lifetime to take on the presidency role? Nope. Why do you think we’d suddenly vote better or have better options?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/02/2024 19:31

CreateHope · 06/02/2024 19:06

Dowager is an awful title 😳. Still it comes with unparalleled perks and privilege so one mustn’t complain 😄

Yep, I'd take it.

I always rather fancied being a Dowager Duchess, but Dowager Queen sounds a lot more fun - there would be palaces and castles to float about in, rather than a tatty stately home that I'd have to donate to the National Trust in order to avoid Death Duties and work in the gift shop in a fleece gilet to top up my State Pension.

I'd definitely work the eccentric old rich woman aesthetic to its limits. Ballgown and tiara for breakfast at 11, moleskins and a thick covering of Beagle fur for official functions...

Because we might have got Andrew! Or, potentially worse, me!

The OW? They’ve been married nearly 20 years..

Not sure how duration of marriage changes this?

BobnLen · 06/02/2024 19:32

Pegs it, are you about 14

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 06/02/2024 19:32

@Malarandras - had you not heard pegs it? It’s interesting what phrases you think are national and turn out not to be. I’d always thought of it as slightly nicer than “kicks the bucket”, but still pretty flippant/disrespectful.

canthelpitt · 06/02/2024 19:35

I hear dowager and just think of Maggie Smith.

SweetDreamsAreMadeOf · 06/02/2024 19:35

To be fair, other than losing her husband, which could happen to anybody married (and is arguably preferable to pre-deceasing them), I imagine that Camilla will be fine, and continue to live a charmed life beyond many on this thread.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 06/02/2024 19:35

Tootytoot78 · 06/02/2024 19:19

Allegedly it was because she couldn't bear to give up the title 'Queen', so the the title Queen Mother was given to her.

She wouldn’t have been giving up the title. She’d have been known as HM Queen Elizabeth. Just as her MIL had switched from being HM The Queen to HM Queen Mary.

She only used the Queen Mother title to differentiate her from her daughter. Even though they were technically HM The Queen and HM Queen Elizabeth.

CurlewKate · 06/02/2024 19:37

@Honeychickpea Ir's not because she wasn't KC's first wife that she's problematic. It's that she was his long term mistress before and during his marriage to a vulnerable young woman.

Notalldogs23 · 06/02/2024 19:38

For those saying she's not the OW anymore, she probably still is to William, his mother made it clear that she was the third in the marriage.

Comedycook · 06/02/2024 19:39

I started a thread about this ages ago....it's very interesting. I wonder if her and William will keep in touch? Will she attend royal events? Will she still do charity work? I feel like she'll sort of fade away out of public life. I always think she looks like a reluctant queen.

The Queen mother is an old title that’s just been rarely used. Mary and Alexandra could have used it as well but didn’t see the need.

Camilla couldn’t be QM as she’s wouldn’t be the mother of the monarch. You have to be “Dowager Queen, Mother of the current monarch” to use that title (that’s also why the mother of a King would be QM as well)

Some of these comments 🙄 I don't think Camilla will be scrolling Mumsnet being offended.

Camilla...
What is wrong with just referring to her by her first name?
