But it did set me thinking about the OW, Camilla. Am sure Charlie will provide for her from his personal wealth in his will, but what on earth would we be expected to call her after Charlie’s death?

I mean we cannot call her the Queen mother like Queens Liz mother, she has no biological relationship with the royals at all.

In my experience adult step children grin and bear their parents new spouse but rarely stay in touch after the parents death. You only have to look on the posts here to know that.

It would, I suppose, be up to King Willy, could be a source of amusement for none royalist folk like me,

This was designed as an anti dote for myself and others who actually find the concept of the royal family and all the pearl clutching about their ins and outs as strange and frankly bizarre.

There were briefly three queens when ERII came on the throne. Mary, who was the mother in law of the Queen Mum, died shortly before the coronation. And then there were two Queen Elizabeths for another forty-odd years. We coped just fine.

The sainted first wife is dead, and was dead before Charles married Camilla. Once they were divorced, she ceased to be an OW.

She may have started as an OW. Hardly unusual in that. More unusual is that they married and have had a long and seemingly happy marriage. To keep referring to a second wife as an OW is in poor taste, regardless of whether that couple is King and Queen or your next door neighbours.

We had 3 at one point, Queen Mary, QEQM amd Queeen Elizabeth. I don’t think it’s been that unusual historically, it’s just that Queen Elizabeth had such a long reign, there aren’t many previous monarchs in living memory now!

Wasn’t Queen Mary still alive as well to start with? And she was already Dowager Queen.

Margaret Beaufort was known as “My Lady the King's Mother”. I suppose they wouldn’t use “Queen” in the title unless the person had been a Queen consort already.

I expect we will have Queen Camilla and Queen Catherine at the same time, I don’t think Dowager will be used and I think they will avoid anything with “mother” in the title as it’s obviously inaccurate.

@Farwell there's always going to be a sizeable proportion of people who think adultery and cheating is scummy behaviour. If you know that about someone, it informs your view of their character. And the whole world knows it about C&C 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, the Queen part of the QM title is from their Queen title.

We’ll have HM Queen Camilla and HM The Queen, with Queen Catherine being used as well.

Dowager is avoided as much as possible. QEII even allowed her Aunts to go by Princess Marina and Princess Alice rather than being Dowager Duchesses. Dowager is definitely not a popular title!

For those who only speak Kings english, “Peg it” is a brummie reference to dying and was commonly used phrase by my grandparents, they would say for example “when I peg it” or “i hope she does not peg it”
