If you could recast anyone in a film...

Who would it be? I always thought Belle from Beauty and the Beast would have been hands down Anne Hathaway although I realise she was probably out of the age range

Currently thinking of others because it's Saturday afternoon and I'm bored

Bridget Jones for someone who was British and didn't sound weird or walk like they'd shat themselves.

I agree I had to turn it off after a minute, her voice was like nails on a blackboard.
I also felt the same way about Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Twiglets1 · 13/01/2024 16:12

Teeny tiny Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher should be replaced by someone tall like Liam Neeson.

PuttingDownRoots · 13/01/2024 16:15

Harry Potter... although Alan Rickman is great as Snape, I'd preferred them to have used an actor of the correct age. Par of the tragedy of the story is how young the parents are.

Okbyethen · 13/01/2024 16:15

I'd 100% recast Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey - and Dakota Johnson as Ana Steele for that matter!

Not sure who I'd replace with but I thought both were poor choices. (And yes, I know the film's were rubbish lol)

ContinentalBreakfast · 13/01/2024 16:17

Andi MacDowell in 4 Weddings.

You could replace her with a cricket bat and it would be less wooden.

(I liked Emma Watson and Renee Zellweger, by the way)

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 13/01/2024 16:18

Replace Jack Black in The Holiday. There about a billion other actors who could be warm and gently comedic but also a believable romantic pairing with Kate Winslet.

Draconis · 13/01/2024 16:18

Anything starring Nicolas cage. I don't know how he has so many roles. I'd recast him with pretty much anyone though Brad Pitt would do nicely.

Gowlett · 13/01/2024 16:18

Speaking of Hathaway, I thought One Day could have been much better sans her… Had myself down as a Hathahater, until The Intern. But I also like her in The Devil Wears Prada.

I can see what folks are saying with BJ, but I love Renee as her!

DominiqueBernard · 13/01/2024 16:19

Tom Cruise is not Jack Reacher!

musicinspring1 · 13/01/2024 16:20

@Okbyethen I have heard that Ian Somerhalder was in the running for Christian Grey and think he would have suited that role

Gowlett · 13/01/2024 16:20

Agree re. Jack Black in The Holiday. Not a romantic interest!

No he isn't!

SirVixofVixHall · 13/01/2024 16:24

Emma Watson is a truly terrible actress.
Recast Keira Knightly as Lizzie B.. but then the whole film was awful, Donald Sutherland’s accent etc.
Also Emma Thomson in Sense and Sensibility. She is good in the role but too old for the part, so seems unconvincing.

thefirstmrsrochester · 13/01/2024 16:24

Came on to say Andi McDowell in Four Weddings. Every other character is so perfectly cast, goodness knows why she was cast as Carrie.

LaurieStrode · 13/01/2024 16:32

Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Even author Stephen King said he was totally wrong in the part.

pictoosh · 13/01/2024 16:37

Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire.
Both good actors but so wrong for those roles.

pictoosh · 13/01/2024 16:40

Robert Carlyle as Begbie in Trainspotting. Again, good actor...but not the man for that part.

WASZPy · 13/01/2024 16:41

I always thought Arwen in LOTR should have been Kate Beckinsale. Liv Tyler is not an elf.

pictoosh · 13/01/2024 16:44

Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka in Tim Burton's take on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
It was a terrible film, not helped any by Depp's miscast depiction.

30not13 · 13/01/2024 16:46

Harry Potter.

I haven't seen clue who but I just don't think I believe Daniel Radcliffe to be him.

Although he's a mighty fine actor in other things I've seen I have to say, it's not his acting that's the problem, more that I just don't feel he is Harry. The other two classmates work well though.

Agree with all of these.

In my head Hermione was mixed-race, so the films were totally jarring. Plus, of course, she sounds like she's acting in a school play. Also the Draco Malfoy character was rubbish. Couldn't act for toffees.

I never thought about Alan Rickman's age. Yes, of course, Snape would have been in his 30s. Perhaps embracing the Dark Arts and then bitterly defying them ages one.

LostInTheLaw · 13/01/2024 16:51

I know it’s not the film version of Pride and Prejudice but I cannot bear Alison Steadman as Mrs Bennet. I love the remainder of the cast (although never quite convinced by Jane’s famous beauty) but Mrs Bennet is just dire.

3luckystars · 13/01/2024 16:52

Ron Weasley

Wanttobeok · 13/01/2024 16:55

Came on to say Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher but seen that several people have beaten me to it! What absolute bullshit that was
