Who would it be? I always thought Belle from Beauty and the Beast would have been hands down Anne Hathaway although I realise she was probably out of the age range

Currently thinking of others because it's Saturday afternoon and I'm bored

Agree 100% on Andi McDowell. Utterly shockingly, embarrassingly awful!
Watched Pride & Prejudice ep1 last night and thought exactly the same about Alison Steadman.
She was just so.. shrill and annoying and silly. 🤨

Also of course it should have been Wynona in the Mary Corleone role... Or anyone on planet earth except Sophia Coppola.

Great Director though 📽️

Lassie should have been played by an XL Bully.

🤣🤣🤣

Tom Hardy -who i think is a good actor - as Heathcliff , acted in the style of Bernard Bresslaw from the carry on films.

This made me lol 😂😂

Butteredtoast55 · 13/01/2024 18:05

Again it's not a film but I think Alison Steadman, Jennifer Ehle and Susannah Harker were all miscast in the BBC Pride and Prejudice. Jennifer Ehle is beautiful but looks as plain as a pikestaff in that series and her wig is horrific. Again Susannah Harker is an attractive woman but is nowhere near as beautiful as Jane should be. Rosamund Pike was far better for that role.

Andi MacDowell in 4 Weddings.

You could replace her with a cricket bat and it would be less wooden.

(I liked Emma Watson and Renee Zellweger, by the way)

Yes! Yes! Yes!

(Also like Renee Zellweger).

Harry Potter.

I haven't seen clue who but I just don't think I believe Daniel Radcliffe to be him.

Although he's a mighty fine actor in other things I've seen I have to say, it's not his acting that's the problem, more that I just don't feel he is Harry. The other two classmates work well though.

Apparently, the actor who played Mikey in My Family was in the running for Harry Potter.

I always thought Arwen in LOTR should have been Kate Beckinsale. Liv Tyler is not an elf.

I disagree strongly, Liv Tyler is about as elf-y as a human can possibly be

100% agree.

I would replace Tom Hanks in The Davinci Code, he was not anything like the books described, ruined the films for me.

musicinspring1 · 13/01/2024 16:20

@Okbyethen I have heard that Ian Somerhalder was in the running for Christian Grey and think he would have suited that role

He was who I was hoping for, he would have been amazing!

I always thought Arwen in LOTR should have been Kate Beckinsale. Liv Tyler is not an elf.

I thought she was absolutely ethereal in the part!

Gowlett · 13/01/2024 18:47

I thought Timothee Chalamet was a brilliant Wonka.
But the rest of the cast / characters are totally forgettable.

LadyBird1973 · 13/01/2024 18:49

When Andie McDowell dies and all the other celebrities have to make public tributes, I wonder how they'll skirt around her complete lack of acting talent.

Gowlett · 13/01/2024 18:49

Wasn’t there another actor in the hot seat for 50 Shades?
Charlie Hunnam? But fan backlash cause him to be ditched.

notenoughcaffeine · 13/01/2024 18:57

Eurgh. Cruise as Reacher annoys the hell out of me too. I've read all the Jack Reacher books but can't watch the film because he is just not the character. His production company brought the film rights to the books and Cruise cast himself so that's why. Awful casting 😂

MillicentRogers · 13/01/2024 18:59

I hated the film Marley and me because Aniston pursed her lips a lot as she usually does and there was no chemistry between her and Owen Wilson. The performances were stilted and Aniston often looked bored and wanted to be anywhere but there making that film. Owen Wilson was trying too hard, perhaps trying to make up for how bad Aniston was in it.

The dog or dogs who played Marley weren't particularly memorable either.

I would like to see a remake with characters that have chemistry but sadly todays lot struggle.

cloudtree · 13/01/2024 19:00

Yet another poster who clicked on the thread to nominate Andi McDowell. What were they thinking? She completely ruins an otherwise great movie.

Kittythecutest · 13/01/2024 19:01

Would recast Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter - he’s a good actor in other things but it truly hurts me that some people see him as Harry when they read the books, he’s all wrong for the role

Yiayoula · 13/01/2024 19:04

Draconis · 13/01/2024 16:18

Anything starring Nicolas cage. I don't know how he has so many roles. I'd recast him with pretty much anyone though Brad Pitt would do nicely.

I agree completely , though for me Ioan Gruffudd would be the perfect Captain Antonio Corelli .

Yiayoula · 13/01/2024 19:05

I’ll just leave this here …..

If you could recast anyone in a film...
charabang · 13/01/2024 19:08

BassoContinuo · 13/01/2024 17:38

Agree with this.

It didn’t help that he looked about 10 years younger than her (despite being slightly older, I think)

I never thought Di Caprio and Winslet were a convincing couple although I do like them both as actors. Kate looked like his big sister.

TidyDancer · 13/01/2024 19:08

Emma Watson immediately came to mind for me. Anything she's in she should've been recast. So lacking in talent that it's an insult to even describe what she does as acting!

BlindurErBóklausMaður · 13/01/2024 19:10

Ginny Weasley.

With Harry coming a close second.

Andi McDowell takes third only because of the truly atrocious "acting" by the first two.

DD (in her 20s) watched 4 Weddings for the first time over Christmas and said how awful that one totally unlikeable and shit actress ruined a jolly good romcom.

Anactor · 13/01/2024 19:10

LostInTheLaw · 13/01/2024 16:51

I know it’s not the film version of Pride and Prejudice but I cannot bear Alison Steadman as Mrs Bennet. I love the remainder of the cast (although never quite convinced by Jane’s famous beauty) but Mrs Bennet is just dire.

Definitely this. Benjamin Whitrow’s Mr Bennet would never in a million years have married Alison Steadman’s Mrs Bennet.

It was as if she was in an entirely different production to the rest of the cast.

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/01/2024 19:10

Agree with most of these, particularly Tom C as Reacher - oh come on now! Would add Sofia Coppola in Godfather part 3. She was just terrible. Literally ruined what would have been a great film. She’s much better behind the camera.

SerafinasGoose · 13/01/2024 19:14

Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle. She was almost ethereally beautiful, but in this movie, miscast. Julie Andrews would have been far better suited for that role.

Natalie Portman as Padme Amidala. This strong character supposedly had enough wherewithall to rule a planet at a mere 14. But when compared with the spirit and charisma of Carrie Fisher as her daughter, Princess Leia, she's pretty much a damp squib.

Going to disagree on Alison Steadman. Her Mrs Bennet is shrill and ridiculous, but Mrs Bennet IS shrill and ridiculous. For a great adaptation it did have some pretty weak performances, though. Mr Bingley, Mr Wickham, Colonel and Mrs Forster, were all pretty poor. Stand-out performances for me were David Bamber as Collins and Barbara Leigh-Hunt - both excellent, and Mary was also FUN (her caterwauling was very entertaining!)

LOTR - same thing. Some excellent stand-outs: Gandalf, Aragorn, Elrond, and Frodo and Sam. Eowyn's pretty good, too. But Orlando Bloom was wooden; so, strangely enough, was Cate Blanchett who's been consistently brilliant in every other role I've seen her play. Liv Tyler was dreadful.

I'm not sure why Andie McDowell was ever cast in anything at all. She's as stiff as a broom handle.
