Who would it be? I always thought Belle from Beauty and the Beast would have been hands down Anne Hathaway although I realise she was probably out of the age range

Currently thinking of others because it's Saturday afternoon and I'm bored

Wasn’t there another actor in the hot seat for 50 Shades?
Charlie Hunnam? But fan backlash cause him to be ditched.

He was, he was only going to be paid $100k though which he thought was insulting for such a popular book.

Sorry I'm bombarding this thread a bit but Steve buscemi was meant to play Quentin Tarantino's role in pulp fiction but had scheduling conflict so just had the cameo as a waiter.
QT is so manic and uncomfortable in front of the camera it's really distracting in his scenes (thankfully few)

Oh I quite like QT in Pulp Fiction! Slightly weirder as an Australian in Django though.

WaitingfortheTardis · 14/01/2024 05:38

Not a movie but Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, I've liked her in other things and have no problem with a female Doctor but she just didn't seem a big enough character for the role.

RichPetunia · 14/01/2024 05:41

Andi McDowall in everything she's ever been in. It's the accent and the simpering that really grates. But let me say I've never laughed so much this early in the morning. Some of the answers are genius 🤣🤣🤣

No he isn't!

Agree!

exLtEveDallas · 14/01/2024 07:07

Ed Norton was a better Hulk than Mark Ruffalo - there's a reason Hulk is the least liked MCU character.

Agree with TC not being Jack Reacher - check out the Amazon Prime series with Alan Ritchson, he plays him brilliantly, including the subtle sarcasm/Military humour. The only wrong thing is his walk (in the books he's fluid and rangy, Ritchson walks like a squaddie).

ImDuranDuran · 14/01/2024 07:20

Hilary Swank as Gerard Butler's wife in 'P.S. I Love You' just didn't work for me.

I've only ever seen it once at the cinema so haven't pondered on it long enough to think of a decent replacement. I just know it bugged me at the time Grin.

Stackarack · 14/01/2024 07:26

I agree with Hilary and Gerard in PS I love you. Awful casting made worse by Gerard’s Irish accent. It might have worked if they’d just said he was Scottish.

Yes to Emma in Beauty and the Beast although I am not sure who should have played the role.

Harry Potter... although Alan Rickman is great as Snape, I'd preferred them to have used an actor of the correct age. Par of the tragedy of the story is how young the parents are.

That's true, I hadn't thought of that. He would only be about 35 or so wouldn't he?

determinedtomakethiswork · 14/01/2024 07:42

30not13 · 13/01/2024 16:46

Harry Potter.

I haven't seen clue who but I just don't think I believe Daniel Radcliffe to be him.

Although he's a mighty fine actor in other things I've seen I have to say, it's not his acting that's the problem, more that I just don't feel he is Harry. The other two classmates work well though.

I agree. He was a very neglected child who lived under the stairs for God's sake! They then brought this middle-class healthy looking boy to play the part. If anyone remembers Chesney in Coronation Street when he was young, that's how I pictured Harry Potter to be, though with a different colouring.

stayathomer · 14/01/2024 07:54

I think I disagree with nearly every single post here!!!!

Apparently, the actor who played Mikey in My Family was in the running for Harry Potter.
Loved Daniel Radcliffe but could see this too! As for The holiday hate the film but only in general, as most were unlikable and the ending left you with the ‘well what do they do now?’ thing, thought jb was fine!

Gettingittogether · 14/01/2024 08:45

Going against the grain here but I think Andie McDowell is perfect in 4 weddings and a funeral.

Isn't her character meant to be a bit overly confident, too smiley, not quite with the British humour and cynicism. If that makes sense?

Riverlee · 14/01/2024 09:03

@Gettingittogether I find her weak and pathetic in the film, not strong at all. Her voice really irritates me - simpering is a good way to describe it.

MariaVT65 · 14/01/2024 05:18

Julie Andrews being officially passed for Doolittle meant she was able to accept Mary Poppins, so that’s a win!

Yes also came on here to say Emma Watson as Belle and Kevin Costner as Robin Hood. (i’m from Nottingham and simply can’t abide the american accent!)

Alan Rickman is god and I don’t care how old he is for anything! Amazing as Snape and everything.

Also I don’t give a shit about Dick Van Dyke’s cockney accent. First watching Mary Poppins as a kid is amazing and I certainly didn’t care about his accent then. Step in time is awesome.

Re. Andrews, yes, that's very true. I re-watched Mary Poppins over Christmas with DC and that rooftop scene never ceases to be magical. She's perfect for that role.

The film's also great because it boats 'Sister Suffragette', probably one of my favourite ever songs from a musical. Glynis Johns, who played Mrs Banks, only died a week ago at the grand old age of 100. (Van Dyke must also be getting on for that now. What a character)!

sprigatito · 14/01/2024 12:26

I'm oddly gutted that nobody has agreed with me about Annette Badland and Dolores Umbridge 😂

sprigatito · 14/01/2024 12:27

I mean she's PERFECT

Leo DiCaprio in Titanic.

He's an excellent actor but I couldn't get behind him and Kate as a couple in it.

Kate Winslet was all wrong for the role. Wasn’t Rose meant to be about 18? To me she looked old enough to be Leo’s mother. They looked stupid together. Spoilt the film

FloofCloud · 14/01/2024 12:40

LaurieStrode · 13/01/2024 16:32

Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Even author Stephen King said he was totally wrong in the part.

What?! 😱

HurricaneDolphinTulip · 14/01/2024 12:44

Minnie Driver in Good Will Hunting. Should have been…anyone else.

My idea of perfectly cast leads - Rachel W. And Brendan F. In The Mummy 😁

yarnwitch · 14/01/2024 12:45

I also was going to say the 50 Shades of Grey films were cast wrong. I think Kristen Stewart would have made a good Ana.

I also agree Kate Winslet was a bad choice for Rose in Titanic. Leonardo was perfect as Jack but they weren't a convincing couple.

I always thought John Travolta wasn't right for Danny in Grease. Apparently Jeff Conway went for the role and I think he would have been much better, he had a more charismatic, bad boy vibe.

SnazzyShambles · 14/01/2024 13:04

Alan Ritchson, the new Jack Reacher showing on Amazon Prime

I watched Maid in Manhattan last weekend, I think Ralph Feinnes is a strange choice for that role ... can't say who should be the replacement but he seemed like a square peg

Robert Carlyle as Begbie in Trainspotting. Again, good actor...but not the man for that part.

Wow, I literally cannot anyone else embodying Begbie like R C!!!

ToddlerMumma · 14/01/2024 14:15

Sofia Coppola in Godfather 3. So dreadful compared to amazing actors in it. Any other actor would have been better than her
