The triumph of hope over experience.

Liz Truss one of four former cabinet ministers launching a new movement to deliver popular conservatism in a fortnight’s time

Good. The more divided they are, the better.

newnamethanks · 22/01/2024 13:40

Hoping its one of these ⚰

IClaudine · 22/01/2024 13:40

Can Sunak really stagger on until Autumn/Winter?

newnamethanks · 22/01/2024 13:53

Don't think so. After Easter and before summer holidays? Wonder what the bookies are saying?

Notonthestairs · 22/01/2024 14:25

Popular Conservatism led by... Liz Truss!
Hilarious. Is this a 6th family?

Wonder who has funded this little group - any clues from Truss's repeated trips to Washington?

I think that really depends on whether the local elections in May are catastrophic or merely bloody awful.

I’m still backing the same day - 2 May. The odds are 9/2 - does anyone understand what that means? I never bet but I might start now.

@BIossomtoes odds of 9/2 mean that a £2 bet would win you £9 (plus your stake returned)

Thank you. I think I’ll put a tenner on, that’ll buy me a nice bottle of champagne to celebrate the election results if I win.

Sunak's Tories: It's a five family affair.

TheOnlyMrsW · 22/01/2024 16:56

I'm a long-time lurker who doesn't post often, thank you to you all for keeping me informed...........the thread has moved very fast since this morning but just on the school funding story, anecdotally DD's school reopened on the 8th January and for the first week temperatures in many of the rooms were in single figures o very early teens as they couldn't afford to keep the heating ticking over the Christmas break and it's such an old building that it takes forever to warm up. Obviously it was then well below freezing outside all last week - DD had mock A levels and actually had fingerless gloves on to keep her hands warm enough to be able to write the papers. Cannot wait for an election, these governments have failed us all but children and the vulnerable the most

How many bloody groups do they need?

The WhatsApp thing is hilarious. They must be doing this on purpose now.

How are we supposed to be a succesful and productive society if our children are freezing (or boiling in the summer).

I remember being cold at school. In the 70s. How have we gone so backwards.

LBC is right now discussing malnutrition and destitution in the UK.

IClaudine · 22/01/2024 18:22

Scurvy is back, too.

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/01/2024 18:38

5 year olds are getting shorter
people are being admitted to hospital with malnutrition
people are dying from hypothermia because they can’t afford to turn the heating on.

But don’t worry the big announcement today is that the government is on WhatsApp

Piggywaspushed · 22/01/2024 18:53

Bit of a shocker here in Piggy land. Our shiny new Nadine deposing MP is moving constituency at the next election due to boundary changes.

Now standing in Tory Hitchin.

This is naked Labour tactics to claim Hitchin and I Am Not Happy.

Notonthestairs · 22/01/2024 19:05

Challenging Afolami? (last seen on last weeks QT)
Potentially good for Harpenden & Hitchin - but yes I can understand why that wouldnt go down well.

Piggywaspushed · 22/01/2024 19:21

It was actually foreseen in November in 'Commons Confidential' so it was always planned.

Talking of Nadine, difficult to imagine that anyone could have had a worse car crash interview than Susan Hall this morning but culture Sec Lucy Frazier managed it.
