Times reports Sunak’s plan for free childcare for 2-year-olds is in jeopardy with nurseries in the dark over funding and Govt realising they have underestimated costs.

Massive story - parents (including me!) are going to be FURIOUS if/when this isn’t rolled out as promised.

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/01/2024 10:35

It’s certainly going to take more than 5 years. I’m hoping voters memories are longer than that.

I think we discussed this on the last thread. Entirely predictable that it would be underfunded and unviable for nurseries to take part.

Would have been better off increasing funding for 3 year olds.

Keir Starmer is giving a speech at the moment, warning against culture wars and defending the RNLI and National Trust

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/01/2024 10:40

That’s very Prime ministerial of him. How refreshing to have a competent PM.

IClaudine · 22/01/2024 10:44

Talking of competency, here is the very competent candidate for Mayor of London.

Issue looming on the horizon - on 31st January the EU checks that we keep putting off because it’s a mental idea are starting. Haven’t seen any suggestion of rolling them over again.

I honestly don't see how we are going to be able to reverse this. It will take decades. It is hard not to despair.

It will take time but I imagine Labour is already planning some quick wins for the first 100 days and stopping gerrymandering would probably be high on the list. A bill reversing all the Tory electoral “reforms” would be very quick and easy to get passed.

Agreed, it's unbelievably depressing but giving up hope is just handing over everything to them. They haven't got everything. Not yet.

cakeorwine · 22/01/2024 11:16

Can you guess Sunak's reaction to Starmer's speech?

(It could have been written by AI)

newnamethanks · 22/01/2024 11:19

I'm not sure that Sunak wasn't created by AI.

AdamRyan · 22/01/2024 11:23

Labour has no plan

"The choice is weak and wobbly under Starmer or strong and stable under me"....oh no hang on, just need to reboot the comms bot
"We are sticking to the plan.....halve the economy, grow the boats, stop the NHS"?

AdamRyan · 22/01/2024 11:31

In case you missed this:

Overseas voters have been given a vote for life.

And the Tories are hiring a co-ordinator to get people overseas to vote

Tories hire coordinator to get expat supporters to vote in general election | Conservatives | The Guardian

Will they also have to pay uk tax for life? You know, the opposite of no taxation without representation…

DuncinToffee · 22/01/2024 12:06
