Surely I've summited Peak Boring?

This happened last night but I'm still mildly appalled with myself.

I was in bed, kissed DH goodnight, laid my head down on the pillow and felt a pleasing jolt of anticipation for the next day. I couldn't think why for a moment, then realised that it was because Amazon was delivering my new loo brush today.

I'm only 36. Surely this is as boring as I'll get?

@LemongrassLollipop i have this one -

Deal: Shark Upright Vacuum Cleaner [NZ801UKT] Powered Lift-Away with Anti-Hair Wrap Technology, Pet Hair, Navy and Orange https://amzn.eu/d/fdvXho8

I don’t think the cordless ones are meant to be as good but I may be wrong!

I have that one too.
Two dogs. Hard floors and carpets.
It is just brilliant.

I have a question: are silicon toilet brushes as good as people say? I’m living in an old unrenovated 70’s rental. Moved here in a state of desperation, but its state of landlord neglect is getting to me. I thought I’d really up my cleaning game and see if that changes anything. Bought a Shark which I love, so any other tips ( including toilet brushes) much appreciated.

I did a tip run today and managed to get the space right next to the cardboard container. I felt like royalty.

I love it when that happens!

I am a recent convert. Definitely, yes.

I hear you!

Yesterday I ordered myself replacement filters for my Shark so I can have one set "in the wash" and still be able to use it. 😀

It's early days but mine is working well so far. If your loo has limescale buildup under the water line then I can also recommend Harpic Power Plus tablets. We live in a very hard water area and one of these every week keeps the loo sparkling.

I used every last bit out of a shampoo bottle earlier so that's one less on the shelf! I love using things up.

@KingsleyBorder

A lovely area to chat is.. Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news calmly through the day

Everything to going to hospital (though thi might be too exciting to what you are planning for dinner. Lovely photos of local wildlife and shots of new ovens etc etc. Give it a whirl. No one kicks off!

Sorry, I’m being dim- is this an existing Mumsnet topic?

Not sure about hospital being a gentle and cosy thing to chat about..

I've spent a long time with my amazon app and a tape measure measuring the 3 very small gaps in the bathroom where I might be able to slide a set of storage shelves WITH WHEELS. I've got a large collection of bubble bath bottles and I need to get them out of the windowsill. If the storage shelves don't fit I will cry.

I just bought, on a whim while I was collecting something in-store, a 3-storey basket thing for the cloakroom. I didn't check the website or measure in advance or in the shop. I just saw it, bought it, installed it & it fits perfectly & holds everything. I normally check out every detail in advance & plan for weeks, so this leaves me quite dizzy with excitement.

Random advice from similar situation (I ended up staying YEARS in a 70s rental... soon to escape!):

White vinegar cleans a lot of things including getting rid of smells. Excellent on limescale (spray on and leave for an hour or so before cleaning as usual). If under waterline of loo is bad, scoop out the water as much as possible to apply vinegar.

Landlords who are crappy about maintenance may not mind you decorating to your own taste, the odd nice coloured feature wall or whatever can make a lot of difference. Also hanging pictures etc. Keep a lookout for nice curtains and things on ebay or elsewhere.

For white painted doors, skirting etc - water based gloss stays white/bright far longer than oil-based (horrible yellowing) but does need a coat of appropriate primer over the old oil-based gloss first.

Look up the new (ish) licensing rules for private landlords. Find out if they apply in your area! And keep evidence of anything you ask to be fixed for later if it's not addressed. This has been a gamechanger here and my landlord is in so much hot water I almost feel sorry for him!

Yay! Someone who understands my pain!
It’s got some good points, but for example, a garden wall fell down last week. Like it just fell. Down. Debris everywhere. I sent photos and emailed the agent, no word on when it will be repaired. I’m trying to find ways to make it work and suggestions like yours really help, I thank you. And the empathy helps too because it has been really getting to me.
