Anyone not doing a roast dinner tomorrow?

My mam always used to do a roast Christmas day, boxing day and NYD.

I genuinely cannot be bothered. I'm not celebrating tonight.

I'm making whatever in the freezer tomorrow like any other Monday.

I think my depression is creeping in a bit in all honesty.

My DH is baffled by the idea of yet another roast dinner/lunch so it won't be happening here!

Procrastination4 · 31/12/2023 11:12

I am, but only because my parents, son and daughter-in-law and grandson are coming for lunch. If they weren’t, no way would I be doing it. We’d be having chicken soup or a stir fry, or something else equally hassle free. (But I have to admit that I enjoy the faff of cooking, when it’s for other people!)

I'm in Scotland so it's steak pie for us. Definitely couldn't be bothered to make or eat another roast even though it's my favourite meal

MissGroves · 31/12/2023 11:14

Me, I'm working so we are having one today (we didn't get our Xmas Dinner though for various reasons).

stopringingme · 31/12/2023 11:14

@TheGoodTypeOfLoser

No, my DH is working today and tomorrow so no point.

I have just had an ocado order delivered with lots of lovely items I will nibble on.

My Mum always did a roast, and I do some years but we are not that bothered as we can have a roast any day of the week.

I just want 2024 to be a better year than this one has been.

Happy New Year, take care of yourself.

Cantfindthewordsddstruggling · 31/12/2023 11:15

Over roast at the moment so we will probably be having a pasta dish

Beezknees · 31/12/2023 11:15

I never ever cook a roast dinner aside from Christmas day. So much effort for very little reward. If I fancy a Sunday roast I go out for a carvery. Tomorrow we're having lasagne.

Same here! Steak pie, potatoes and peas (all one word!) is the law in our family on NYD.

I eat red meat about 3 times a year and NYD is 1 of them

DarkForces · 31/12/2023 11:17

Dh is making lasagne 😋

JazzTheDog · 31/12/2023 11:19

Also Scottish, also steak pie and tatties and mealie.

Choc cheesecake lined up for pudding.

Chimchar · 31/12/2023 11:20

We're having lasagne here too! Making it today ready for a faff free meal tomorrow.

QueSyrahSyrah · 31/12/2023 11:21

It's the same as any normal bank holiday Monday here, never done anything special on NYD.

TrashedSofa · 31/12/2023 11:25

I'm not sure I've ever had a roast on NYD. Pre kids I'd have been too hungover to make the effort, post kids we tend to be out. Look after yourself OP.

FortunataTagnips · 31/12/2023 11:29

I didn’t even realise we were supposed to.

TheGoodTypeOfLoser · 31/12/2023 11:30

FortunataTagnips · 31/12/2023 11:29

I didn’t even realise we were supposed to.

Oh.

We did the same set up as Christmas day every year growing up. All my aunts do so now my siblings do.

I didn't realise it wasn't a thing outside our family 😮

I’m in Scotland so it’s usually steak pie but I’m on my own this year so it’s steak instead.

EmptyYoghurtPot · 31/12/2023 11:31

We always used to when I was a child as we went to maternal grandparents Christmas Day, paternal grandparents Boxing Day and had everyone at ours on NYD.
We will be travelling home tomorrow so dinner will either be at a service station or a takeaway when we get home!

WolfFoxHare · 31/12/2023 11:32

We usually do one but I’ve been quite ill this holiday with a chest infection and I’m still very breathless, so DH will be doing his bolognese instead.

PuffyShirt · 31/12/2023 11:32

God no. Mountains of Christmas Day dinner still languishing in the fridge.

BeeCucumber · 31/12/2023 11:33

We are having jacket potatoes with cheese and beans. Nice and easy.

OhChristmassTree · 31/12/2023 11:34

It's not something I normally do but I actually do fancy a roast dinner.
Kids have asked for party food today though and I'm working all day tomorrow so I will probably be to tired to bother after work.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 31/12/2023 11:34

I'm making a chicken dinner tomorrow mainly to use up the remaining parsnips, sprouts, potatoes and carrots in the salad drawer of the fridge. It would have been today, but it's buffet food for me and DD as it's NYE.

soundsys · 31/12/2023 11:34

Steak pie here too! I am doing roast potatoes and well as new though. And just simple steamed vegetables!

pinkdelight · 31/12/2023 11:34

Nope, never been aware it's a things. We eat what we fancy, same as any other day. Weird to put pressure on it, relax and please yourself.

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 31/12/2023 11:35
