Anyone not doing a roast dinner tomorrow?

My mam always used to do a roast Christmas day, boxing day and NYD.

I genuinely cannot be bothered. I'm not celebrating tonight.

I'm making whatever in the freezer tomorrow like any other Monday.

I think my depression is creeping in a bit in all honesty.

Its a hangover day for us. We dont sctually drink but we act as if we did. So laze im bed then do a fry for late breakfast.

Froodwithatowel · 31/12/2023 11:53

We always traditionally have done. Except today we all looked at each other and went - we can't face more gravy and sprouts. So we're having fish.

Islandermummy · 31/12/2023 11:53

We've got people coming. Planning to do roast chicken, quiche, salads. Bit of a summery menu but I thought everyone might be over very heavy food.

Lampzade · 31/12/2023 11:54

Still have leftovers from Christmas.
Have Turkey and Lamb which have been in the freezer.
May have some mashed potato and carrots/broccoli

Almondmum · 31/12/2023 11:54

No roast here. We like them but not enough to have them weekly. Nyd roast was never a thing for us growing up but even if it was I pick and choose my traditions and I wouldn't pick that one!

Be good to yourself op. Eat something you want to eat and don't pressure yourself.

Stressfordays · 31/12/2023 11:55

Were having a full family Christmas dinner tomorrow as all my family work in healthcare and it's the only day we've all managed to wrangle off together!

SnowsFalling · 31/12/2023 11:56

Nope.
And we're not having a sunday roast today either.

(Homemade) pizza tonight. Something with the half price salmon DH has picked up tomorrow.

We typically wouldn't have a roast on boxing day either.

Crooklodge · 31/12/2023 11:56

Dh and eldest dd are having steak pie, me and other dcs are having toad in the hole.

PhillMichellsbrother · 31/12/2023 11:57

Never do anything of note New Year’s Eve or day. i
It’s just another day and half the house are working anyway (as they have been all over Christmas).

VisionsOfSplendour · 31/12/2023 11:58

Never heard of this being a thing and thankfully this thread has reassured me that me and my family haven't been doing New Years day wrongly for the past 50 years

No one who has joined the family through relationships has ever mentioned it as being a thing

haggisaggis · 31/12/2023 12:02

Growing up New Years Day meal was a rerun of Christmas without the presents! I remember finding it a very disappointing day as a child. Now we try and go out for a meal instead.

EffortlessDelegation · 31/12/2023 12:02

No, never have done and didn’t really think it was a thing. We don’t do one every Sunday either, more like every couple of months. We don’t tend to do anything special on NY Day, it’s just a bank holiday Monday.

BingoMarieHeeler · 31/12/2023 12:03

Yeah that’s just a family thing OP 😄 stress not!

Takeaway curry for us tonight, and 3 desserts. Tomorrow no idea. See what happens!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 31/12/2023 12:05

I'm making a lasagna tomorrow and a roast today as it is Sunday. I love food and cooking and I'm just chilling out the rest of the day so suits me!

WhateverMate · 31/12/2023 12:06

We've got a beautiful joint of beef in the fridge which DH will be roasting tomorrow with all the trimmings.

I'm just pissed off today's Sunday so we've had to forfeit today's roast!

StillWantingADog · 31/12/2023 12:06

Most def not.

CuriousGeorge80 · 31/12/2023 12:10

I’m on the other side of the world for Christmas and haven’t had a single roast potato. Gutted!!! BBQ is definitely not the same!

look after yourself OP - be kind and gentle. Wishing you a good 2024 x

weebarra · 31/12/2023 12:11

Steak pot for us! Can't be bothered making it so good old Malcolm Allan'sz
DH is doing a Moroccan shoulder of lamb tonight.

Whattheduck · 31/12/2023 12:11

We were at mil’s Christmas Day and fil’s Boxing Day so I’ve not cooked a roast over Christmas
Tomorrow we’ll have roast chicken stuffing cabbage carrots cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes.Sticky toffee pudding or treacle sponge for dessert
Tonight we are having cheeses and pates

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 31/12/2023 12:13

No, probably eat cheese ... expecting a massive hangover Grin

Parky04 · 31/12/2023 12:13

Nope. Steak, mushrooms, and chips for us!

TheCurlyKnobhead · 31/12/2023 12:15

We're having roast lamb, potato dauphinoise, green beans and tender stem broccoli. Really looking forward to it too

hiredandsqueak · 31/12/2023 12:15

I am because I will have a houseful here again and a roast is the easiest option. Probably wouldn't have bothered if there wasn't going to be visitors though. Beef tomorrow and chocolate something or other for pudding when I have decided what to make later.

Jingledog · 31/12/2023 12:16

I am!! Over Xmas I've remembered just how much I love a roast and don't do them much during the rest of the year so making the most of it! I'm even tempted to do turkey again as they are all reduced haha

ZenNudist · 31/12/2023 12:18

I'm doing roast pork. We had a turkey on Christmas day that's it.
