Anyone not doing a roast dinner tomorrow?

My mam always used to do a roast Christmas day, boxing day and NYD.

I genuinely cannot be bothered. I'm not celebrating tonight.

I'm making whatever in the freezer tomorrow like any other Monday.

I think my depression is creeping in a bit in all honesty.

Absolutely not. Dont feel like cooking or eating another roast, and it wasn’t tradition I grew up with.

snowlady4 · 31/12/2023 11:36

Nah can't be bothered. Might go out for a bite to eat in the afternoon- otherwise will just do a normal tea, maybe pasta or something.
There's only 2 of us though, would do something special if we had visitors!

WhatNoRaisins · 31/12/2023 11:36

I want to use up the goose fat. That said we quite like roast dinners and do them often. It's not for everyone

Terrrence · 31/12/2023 11:36

Goodness no. I'm now eating another roast dinner for weeks, months even.

Wherethewildthymeblows · 31/12/2023 11:37

I'm doing a roast dinner today! It is a Sunday and a roast is my default option for winter Sundays.
New Years Day is much more a casserole sort of day for me. If the weather is good, we go out on NYD and can come back to a warming casserole. However, the forecast for tomorrow is a continuation of the never ending rain.

NotARealWookiie · 31/12/2023 11:37

I’m doing a pie. Beef in slow cooker and jus roll pastry. Easy but I rarely make a pie and it’s feels like a centrepiece type dish.

Amortentia · 31/12/2023 11:37

I’m in Scotland so steak pie, but best of all is that every NYD we go to a restaurant. Well worth it.

NoNameisGoodEnough · 31/12/2023 11:41

Nah, it's a cooked breakfast with our friends who stay over, then it is a lazy day with picky bits (I know, I know!) throughout the day.

Auntieobem · 31/12/2023 11:42

Steak pie here too, with apple crumble if I can be arsed making it. If it's not raining we'll go watch the dook first.

OdeToBarney · 31/12/2023 11:44

I'm doing roast beef. DPs couldn't come for Christmas as dh had covid. He's finally negative and we're having Christmas(ish) round two as we didn't get to exchange presents!

MyLibrarywasdukedomlargeenough · 31/12/2023 11:44

I’m going to a friend’s and having a buffet, I’m taking some cake and then will be picking at stuff in the evening.

onwardandupwards · 31/12/2023 11:44

Macaroni cheese here with crispy bacon, waffles, fried chicken topped with maple syrup ( my older kids favourite dinner)

MythicBish · 31/12/2023 11:45

We sort of are,
We're having gammon (slow cooker), dauphinois potatoes (ready made from aldi I think) with green beans and red cabbage.

But I literally haven't cooked anything healthy with vegetables since Christmas day so we're all craving a proper meal. We've been having leftovers, cheese/pate, soup etc, and interspersed with some random bits from the freezer (party food etc)

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 31/12/2023 11:47

Takeaway for us .

EmpressSoleil · 31/12/2023 11:48

No. Can’t really say I celebrate new years as such. I won’t be staying up until midnight. Tomorrow will be a normal day bar being off work. So just a normal dinner, not even sure what yet.

daffodilandtulip · 31/12/2023 11:48

Christmas Day and New Years Day. Not Boxing Day, that's leftovers and chocolate.

exLtEveDallas · 31/12/2023 11:48

I usually do, and it's almost always lamb, but I'm getting over a horrible illness and still have no appetite, so I don't want to 'waste' a bloody expensive joint.

We are having pizza today and a lasagne tomorrow. I'm quite sad about it.

DD comes back from friends on Tue, so will probably do her a chicken roast on Wed before she goes back to uni on Thu 😰

Groovee · 31/12/2023 11:49

Having a roast tonight on Hogmanay.

Tomorrow is Chinese. Then steak pie at the inlaws on the 2nd.

2024i · 31/12/2023 11:49

I am, but only cause we’re craving one! It isn’t a tradition or anything

idontlikealdi · 31/12/2023 11:50

Never have a roast on NYD. Steak pie here although not Scottish!

1AnotherOne · 31/12/2023 11:50

I’ve got this horrid cold. We are getting Indian takeaway tonight as per our tradition and I’m going to make stir fry tomorrow. Fed up with rich, heavy meals so fancy something light.

Floralnomad · 31/12/2023 11:50

We won’t be having roast , I’ve no idea what we will be having

Iwishiwasasilentnight · 31/12/2023 11:51

I made a big pot of ragu yesterday so probably Lasanga here too.

Dontcallmescarface · 31/12/2023 11:51

Nope. We didn't have one Christmas day either. neither of us are particularly keen on them so we're having lasagne instead.

DuchessPotato · 31/12/2023 11:51

Making a fish pie here tomorrow. I don’t make it often because it’s a faff but it’s my OH’s favourite.
