How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

I love Alison Hammond! I'll watch it on catch up .

Thisweeksname · 20/11/2023 13:53

Yes it was awful! He was so cringy, I felt embarrassed for him tbh, he really sounded like a dick

kiki50 · 20/11/2023 13:56

reminds me of that other lovely "singer" from Cliff's generation, Cilla Black, on Loose Women. Just after the Japanese tsunami, talking about "them over there" and how we couldn't relate as they were "all over there"
Tone Deaf, some of that generation. Not
all, but a far few.

kiki50 · 20/11/2023 14:01

and also a work colleague of mine in the 90's. Very thin and very image conscious. Spent 20 mins talking about
lazy fat people in the office
kitchen whilst a very large colleague of hers was sat on the same table. Tone Deaf.

Scruffington · 20/11/2023 14:03

Cliff's a wrong 'un.

LubaLuca · 20/11/2023 14:05

I think he might be a bit out of sync with his own thoughts tbh. I saw a very recent clip of him taking about artificial insemination instead of artificial intelligence.

You do have to wonder why he doesn't just give up with the public appearances etc and enjoy his fortune that he surely doesn't need to add to.

Missingmyusername · 20/11/2023 14:05

Went to find the clip as long my lunch and up popped cliff on loose women telling the same fat shaming Elvis story! He regrets not having done the photo now.

Missingmyusername · 20/11/2023 14:06

”I saw a very recent clip of him taking about artificial insemination instead of artificial intelligence.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

jollygreenpea · 20/11/2023 14:08

He's said for many years the reason he didn't meet Elvis when he had the chance was because of his weight.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 20/11/2023 14:08

Thoughtless git. I didn’t see it but it doesn’t even sound like an interesting anecdote. Just an opportunity to be an offensive twat. He’s obsessed with his ‘Peter Pan’ image and his boyish figure (<gag> sorry) is part of that, so he has an internalised terror of weight gain and the idea of anyone being fat and happy is anathema to him.

Sartre · 20/11/2023 14:08

I don’t think he was aiming it at her and if she was upset about it, perhaps she isn’t happy being overweight?

commonground · 20/11/2023 14:09

I just had a look on catch up.

Hmm - being 'charitable' I think it says that Cliff actually didn't see AH as heavier because he was not including her in his definition of heavy (or that compared to how good Elvis used to look, he didn't look great at the end -certainly v unhealthy. Whereas AH looks good).

Conversely of course, that means that he wasn't really seeing her at all.

I think she dealt with it really well (and her quip and look to camera about going to Cliff's house when he was talking about his strict diet.)

I think she did a great job and was v classy with it.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 20/11/2023 14:09

The AI thing was a joke. TBF, until recently ‘AI’ was more commonly the abbreviation for artificial insemination, still is in farming circles!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 20/11/2023 14:13

He's a nasty old man.

I’m risking outing myself here but this same thing happened to me last week. I was at an evening class and the conversation was about health. The teacher kept saying that the worst fear she had about a recent health scare was that she might put on weight due to the drugs she would need to take. How that fear was worse than the illness itself. Everyone laughed and agreed. And there I sat. Big fat bastard. Everyone else slim. Fortunately for me my self esteem is on the floor already so no harm done.

If he had, there would be people asking a hundred years from now 'who's that skinny git with Elvis?'

LadyWiddiothethird · 20/11/2023 14:18

As someone upthread said he’s a wrong’un.

kiki50 · 20/11/2023 14:18

@Sunday12 that's awful. Nearly 30 years on, I can still see the gutted expression on her face. I wanted to say something but suspect it would've drawn more attention and she'd have been mortified. People are just dreadful, selfish assholes.

No idea why he's so revered. His music's dire.

I think Alison Hammond has lost a lot of weight in recent times, is probably still losing it, and she looks good.

Cliff wouldn't have intentionally offended her, he was just telling the truth about the non-meeting with Elvis.

We all put our foot in it at times.

I recently watched a documentary on youtube about the Mountbattens or Edwina Mountbatten; the man said, "Edwina Currie"! You'd think these people would edit before broadcasting.

I’ve got the class again this evening! The teacher is stunningly attractive and very slim. The other students are slim too. I’m the only fatty. They didn’t involve me in the conversation so I just kept head down. It’s just one table with us sitting all around

Missingmyusername · 20/11/2023 14:06

”I saw a very recent clip of him taking about artificial insemination instead of artificial intelligence.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I thought he said he thought AI meant artificial insemination (which it can do), but he was joking and clearly knew the more recent meaning.

itsmyp4rty · 20/11/2023 14:22

I would feel bad for Alison except she was on a celeb dating show (can't remember which) and she was so rude about some of the people she went on dates with. I was quite shocked as she'd always seemed so lovely.

roarrfeckingroar · 20/11/2023 14:27

Kitty, wasn't it?
