How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

He sounds like a dick and looks odd. His face is quite frozen so could have Parkinson's or maybe a lot of plastic surgery.

That whole generation of "stars" at the BBC are questionable. Cliff Richard, Jimmy Saville (obvs), Rolf Harris, Cilla Black. This generation (Russell Brand, et al) will have their own scandals, just not known yet.

I think it's the flip side to the cliquey-ness of the BBC. Like many other British institutions (schools, universities, law firms, banks, brokerages, publishers....the monarchy) they have a culture of thinking they're the best, and untouchable. It's engrained.

Oh look more BBC bashing. And yet this was on ITV's This Morning

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 20/11/2023 15:02

He’s very successful amongst a certain demographic. He’s had a top 5 hit in every decade for the last EIGHTY YEARS. Eight consecutive decades. He has an ardent and loyal fan-base. As baffling as it is.

Lwrenagain · 20/11/2023 15:03

@roarrfeckingroar I told the kitty story here once and it took me ages to type it and some absolute bellend reported me. 🤣
I suggest to whoever that was they sort their priorities. They posted underneath my post, "this could damage CR's reputation, I'm reporting you". Everything about the despicable child catcher is out there already.
But kitty indeed. The predatory fucker.

Itham · 20/11/2023 15:03

The story about Elvis is dreadful. Cliff thinks it makes him sound good, it does the opposite. He's mightily pissed off Sue Barker recently too.

Callipygion · 20/11/2023 14:57

He’s still touring though, so he can’t be that washed up! I know someone has been to a concert in London recently. He has a big fan base apparently. (Not me though, I can’t stand him.)

He is still hugely popular.

Of course he won't appeal to many under the age of 50. I liked him in my youth and he puts on an amazing show so he still sells out shows to his 'generation' of fans.

Sadly though, like many, he can't sing anymore and he needs to stop (and get a decent haircut)

fearfuloffluff · 20/11/2023 15:05

Ah, come on. Fat Elvis was clearly spiralling out of control in lots of ways and a big mess. His weight was just one element of it. If he was your hero, you might think twice about meeting him when he was that way.

CR attitude is just typical of his time. I was looking at girls' annuals from 70s and 80s the other day. General cultural messaging that being fat is shameful and means you won't be liked or valued, losing weight through deprivation was the answer and resulted in success, health and beauty.

He's on TV because a lot of older people like him and there aren't that many people from the old days you can get on like that - old biddies don't exactly like the Rolling Stones etc.

I imagine when he pops off to the Summer Holiday in the sky we'll hear about his tormented relationship with his sexuality, body and food. I'd feel sorry for him rather than angry with him.

LondonLass91 · 20/11/2023 15:05

God some people on here are so nasty. About someone who's given his whole life to enertaining others and worked tirelessly for charity and good causes, who has been treated appalling by the police and the BBC in the past. Alison Hammond is gorgeous and would have taken no notice, she works in tv and must be very confident to deal with various people. I wish people would stop and think before stating someone is a 'wrong un'. We all know what you are implying, so you are either homophobic or suggesting something very very bad, I hope this thread gets removed.

Westfacing · 20/11/2023 15:08

This old biddy does!

Roussette · 20/11/2023 15:09

He's never come out as gay so why do you say that?

I am not keen on him one little bit. How rude was that about Elvis who had more talent in his little toe than Cliff has got. Well done Alison Hammond for actually calling him out on it without being rude.

There is far more to Cliff than meets the eye but he is one of these 'national treasures' isn't he??

Eh?

The point was about Cliff Richard and the BBC (one of the most nauseatingly toady, biased, homogenous, smug broadcasters I've ever come across outside China and the Middle East). I will bash the BBC all day and every day, it's a pitiful excuse for a license fee.

TorroFerney · 20/11/2023 15:09

kiki50 · 20/11/2023 13:56

reminds me of that other lovely "singer" from Cliff's generation, Cilla Black, on Loose Women. Just after the Japanese tsunami, talking about "them over there" and how we couldn't relate as they were "all over there"
Tone Deaf, some of that generation. Not
all, but a far few.

My mums like that, always remember when it was live aid and tv coverage of people dying she’d say stuff as if the mothers, fathers , kids over there weren’t somehow upset at people dying. Is it called othering?

Itham · 20/11/2023 15:10

I'm not much younger than Cliff, an old biddy in fact, can't stand him, never could.

Edited

"Given" his "whole" life???

Give over 😂

Lwrenagain · 20/11/2023 15:11

@LondonLass91 does giving to charity make the fact Savile was raping corpses okay? No,.no it doesn't.

It's not being nasty, it's seeing through the absolute bullshit of predatory men.

Being gay isn't being a peadophile and if you think it is, you're the one with a problem.

Christmasisonitsway · 20/11/2023 15:12

Such a rude comment, couldn't believe it.

If anyone's career was well and truly independent of the BBC, Cliff's was. It doesn't sound as if the foundation for your hatred is very secure.

Passepartoute · 20/11/2023 15:10

No, but their appearances on the BBC gave them a stamp of approval that you needed to get ahead in broadcasting. There's more variety now, it's not quite the same in light entertainment - definitely still is in news (or "news").

CharingX976 · 20/11/2023 15:14

Before you cast the first stone, have you honestly never put your foot in it mid-conversation?
I don't think this was intentional. Clumsy, yes. But not malicious.

AmyDudley · 20/11/2023 15:16

My DD once went to have a bridesmaid dress altered and the dressmaker took her to a workshop at the end of her garden where she did her sewing. All the inside walls were covered floor to ceiling with pictures of Cliff Richard, including the changing room. My DD said she had to get changed whilst being gawped at by giant leather clad Cliffs. She described the experience as 'terrifying'.

Anyway Alison can comfort herself by knowing she is fab and he is a nasty weird mummified pseudo-virgin. Who sings like a cassowary.

Roussette · 20/11/2023 15:16

I think it was malicious. Who in god's name would say I can't put a photo of this person up because they are fat?

Baconking · 20/11/2023 15:17

RiderOfTheBlue · 20/11/2023 14:35

I was once sat in a group of 5 people at work, 4 slim and me fat. One of the slim people announced she'd rather be dead than fat. So that was nice.

Shame you didn't say "yes, I'd rather you were dead too" 😂

CharingX976 · 20/11/2023 15:18

I've noticed something. Cliff Richard has had a pretty spotless record compared to other celebrities. No scandals. Pretty boring private life. But people often lump him together with the likes of Savile purely because of his age and gender. They imply there MUST be something behind the scenes, with absolutely no evidence. Isn't this kind of bigoted? The only reason he's being demonised is because he's a celebrity who's old and a man.

PearlClutzsche · 20/11/2023 15:19

funbags3 · 20/11/2023 14:51

He's always given me the ick, even in his heyday.

Me too! His voice - both speaking and singing - sound awful to me. And the "bachelor boy" sexlessness was creepy.

Massive boak.
