How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

My DD once went to have a bridesmaid dress altered and the dressmaker took her to a workshop at the end of her garden where she did her sewing. All the inside walls were covered floor to ceiling with pictures of Cliff Richard, including the changing room. My DD said she had to get changed whilst being gawped at by giant leather clad Cliffs. She described the experience as 'terrifying'.

Anyway Alison can comfort herself by knowing she is fab and he is a nasty weird mummified pseudo-virgin. Who sings like a cassowary.

Are you joking? This is so unfair. Cliff Richard can't help the fact that some random weird seamstress stuck pictures of him all over her changing room.

I could stick a photo of you next to my toilet. That would make ME the creep, not you!

Scruffington · 20/11/2023 15:20

I wish people would stop and think before stating someone is a 'wrong un'. We all know what you are implying, so you are either homophobic or suggesting something very very bad, I hope this thread gets removed.

Well I'm not homophobic, so...

The story about Elvis is dreadful. Cliff thinks it makes him sound good, it does the opposite. He's mightily pissed off Sue Barker recently too.

I'm not surprised. "I didn't love her enough to propose," is just what every girl wants to hear in an interview from her ex.

Even worse when he's still saying it 60 years later!

(Edit: 40 years later. But still not good!)

Elvanseshortage · 20/11/2023 15:22

Not a fan of CR at all, BUT. Half of the people on here are being openly ageist. Why is fattism unacceptable but ageism isn't?

All of us will be older one day (if we are lucky)

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 20/11/2023 15:23

I remember reading in Girl magazine an article fawning over Cliff and going on about what heartthrob he was when I was 10 or 11.

Me, at that young age couldn’t stand him (music, looks and personality) if anything my DB’s idol Shakin’ Stevens would’ve been more up my street but it’s disgusting that a magazine aimed at young girls was encouraging hero worship of him. He makes my skin crawl to be honest.

He’s had a shit ton of plastic surgery and floats around every Christmas thinking he’s a national treasure.

Not saying anything else as this post will be deleted/reported. No smoke without fire though…

Havanananana · 20/11/2023 15:24

old biddies don't exactly like the Rolling Stones etc.

Really? The generation that grew up with the Stones, Beatles, Led Zep and Hendrix are now in their 70s and 80s. Hendrix died over 50 years ago.

I met a couple from Denmark this summer who were certainly in their 80s and we got chatting about their experience of England. They had only visited once before, which was to go to a Status Quo concert about 30 years ago. The husband said that they are still his favourites and that he regularly listens to their old albums.

You really shouldn't imply things about people without evidence. Attitudes like this are hugely distructive to the lives and rephtations of innocent people.
You're clearly implying he's a creep, at the very least.
What is this based on other than a general personal feeling of yours?
Btw I'm not a fan of his music or work at all. I just think people shouldn't make baseless, harmful accusations.

Apparently their relationship was more of a friendship and the most they’d have probably done was kissing and a bit more but not sex. Yet Cliff builds it up into this big love affair.

Methink the man doth protest too much…

RiderOfTheBlue · 20/11/2023 15:27

@Baconking 😆

When I thought about it afterwards I wished I'd said "I'd rather be dead than be you".

Lifeomars · 20/11/2023 15:27

I really like Alison based on what I see of her on tv, she comes across as someone with real warmth and humour. As for Cliff, I was related by marriage to someone who was a fairly famous rock star. They once bought a car from Cliff and were very far from complimentary about him. I cannot post on here what they disclosed about him as it may be libellous and may not even be true but I have never forgotten it.

I’m just saying what I think and a few others have said the same. I’m not labelling him as anything.

This old biddy does!

I know, westfacing, that was a ridiculous comment. My ‘old biddy’ relatives are Stones fans, it’s what they grew up with. Mick Jagger is 80!

I’m not sure who still likes Cliff Richard though - my granny was a big fan, but she’s been dead for 30 years…

I have an interesting Cliff story… but saving it for when he’s no longer with us 😉

IClaudine · 20/11/2023 15:28

CR attitude is just typical of his time. I was looking at girls' annuals from 70s and 80s the other day. General cultural messaging that being fat is shameful and means you won't be liked or valued, losing weight through deprivation was the answer and resulted in success, health and beauty

This is so true. I clearly remember two stories about overweight girls from my Jackie annuals. One was injured using her weight to rescue another girl on a runaway horse, spent time in hospital where she tada! lost weight. The other was about an overweight girl who went to live in a farm and tada! lost weight through doing farm work. Those were the plots. Overweight girls lose weight and become popular. Yuk.

Not sure why they have stuck in my mind for the past 40-odd years, but the fact that they have probably means the messages were well and truly subconsciously received.

IClaudine · 20/11/2023 15:30

Oh, this thread will end up deleted I think...

Ah, come on. Fat Elvis was clearly spiralling out of control in lots of ways and a big mess. His weight was just one element of it. If he was your hero, you might think twice about meeting him when he was that way.

He's on TV because a lot of older people like him and there aren't that many people from the old days you can get on like that - old biddies don't exactly like the Rolling Stones etc.

I imagine when he pops off to the Summer Holiday in the sky we'll hear about his tormented relationship with his sexuality, body and food. I'd feel sorry for him rather than angry with him.

What do you mean 'old biddies don't like the Rolling Stones'??

It was us 'Old biddies' who liked them in the first place and our tastes haven't changed! They're number 1 again and I bet it's my generation that's seen to that.

We weren't always old and in our heads we still aren't (that is actually a real thing - I'm still a teenager in my head)

So a little less ageism and patronising please

@Sunday12 Your first post made me sad, when I started to read the last sentence I thought you were going to say "I didn't care because my self esteem is high and I look great" . Because you know what? I bet you do.

That's the magazine's fault, btw.
