How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

Every single person implying things about Cliff Richard with absolutely no evidence. Just imagine how you would feel if I went online and started telling the world there must be something fishy about you because you give me a "certain feeling", you make my skin crawl, you have an unpleasant demeanor, and I know people who were weird who were fans of yours. And then it snowballed and everyone turns on you, based on absolutely nothing.

I hope this thread is deleted.

I remember him telling that awful Elvis story before and it was cringe then. Surely someone has told him it’s offensive so why is he saying it again?

Anyway as for people who like him, my mother in her 80s can’t stand him and never could. She always preferred Elvis and Mick Jagger.

AllAroundMyCat · 20/11/2023 15:43

@Scruffington

Yep.

What do you mean 'old biddies don't like the Rolling Stones'??

It was us 'Old biddies' who liked them in the first place and our tastes haven't changed! They're number 1 again and I bet it's my generation that's seen to that.

We weren't always old and in our heads we still aren't (that is actually a real thing - I'm still a teenager in my head)

So a little less ageism and patronising please

What a fabulous photo! Are you in it?

How do such young gorgeous girls ever become 70 or 80?

A lesson to younger mum to enjoy life as much as you can every day - 50 years whizzes by!

He's just a bit wrong on all levels I think.

happyasaseagullstealingchips · 20/11/2023 15:46

I'm in my forties but grew up with 60s/70s music. I love the Stones, Beatles, Quo, Dire Straits and loads more. Cliff however always gave me ick even as a young child.

@Sunday12 Your first post made me sad, when I started to read the last sentence I thought you were going to say "I didn't care because my self esteem is high and I look great" . Because you know what? I bet you do.

That’s very kind but no I look awful. I think I could look better with more confidence though.

Didn't the police raid his house? Obviously he was never charged with anything but it's a bit disingenuous to say people are only implying things because he's old and creepy.

That's the key. They didn't find anything!

Innocent until proven guilty.

Roussette · 20/11/2023 15:50

@CharingX976 It's not based on nothing actually. Certainly not as far as I'm concerned. You are obviously a massive fan.

I'm old, but I have never been keen, quite the opposite in fact.

Kitty, wasn't it?

Indeed. Vile man. And I'm sure plenty will come out when he dies.

The raid was based on entirely baseless accusations and came to nothing. He was found innocent and he should be treated as such.

I could accuse you of absolutely anything, have you investigated, found innocent, and tell everyone that there must be something suspicious about you because you were ACCUSED of something. The logic is absurd.

ManateeFair · 20/11/2023 15:52

He's on TV because a lot of older people like him and there aren't that many people from the old days you can get on like that - old biddies don't exactly like the Rolling Stones etc

'Old biddies' are exactly the people who made the Rolling Stones a success.

My MIL, mum and dad, all of whom are their 80s, all love the Rolling Stones. None of them can stand Cliff. My parents didn't even like Cliff in the 50s, let alone now!

As my mum invariably says whenever she sees him on telly, "Ugh, he's always been an embarrassment".

I actually don't like his work or music. Not a fan at all.

I just don't think people should make baseless accusations that can do real harm, just because they have a "feeling".

My DD once went to have a bridesmaid dress altered and the dressmaker took her to a workshop at the end of her garden where she did her sewing. All the inside walls were covered floor to ceiling with pictures of Cliff Richard, including the changing room. My DD said she had to get changed whilst being gawped at by giant leather clad Cliffs. She described the experience as 'terrifying'.

Anyway Alison can comfort herself by knowing she is fab and he is a nasty weird mummified pseudo-virgin. Who sings like a cassowary.

Hahahaha Alan Partridge 'mad fan' mentalist vibes 😂

Roussette · 20/11/2023 15:55

I love the pic @Nanny0gg I'm old and have pics like this... I had a really wild time in the 70s. I went from being a hippy, to free love, to rock chick to cage dancing and following bands around. I do remember doing an all night vigil at Brian Jones (Stones) grave after he died with someone strumming a guitar all night. Great memories....
But Cliff... he was not on my radar

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 20/11/2023 15:55

I often think that he's the one that it will all come out about when he dies. They say there is someone who will shock people, and I have a suspicion it may be him.

As for the PP earlier, who claims he has given his whole life to charity and entertainment. He hasn't done it for free, has he? He chose that as a career, don't make out he had to give over his whole life as some sort of sacrifice. I'm sure he doesn't mind that he gave his whole life while he sits in his mansion in Barbados.

Oh sadly no.

But I certainly wore my skirts that short (my first boss enquired if it was wise to go upstairs on the bus...)

But it is a reminder that nearly everything you younger lot do, we did first...

What will come out? And based on which evidence? Or do you just have a vague impression because he's an old man with plastic surgery?

Re old biddies, I didn't mean anyone over a certain age. I meant women over a certain age who like their music safe and sexless. Daniel O'Donnell and Max Bygraves sort of singalongs.

I've got a few of said old biddies in my family, nothing wrong with it, takes all sorts and so on. I guess they're all 90 or over so maybe it's a dying breed!
