How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

@GrandpaFlumpAndHisFlumpet

But I find it interesting that not one solid citizen has made an allegation

As a point, sometimes people who have been assaulted as young never are able to become stable adults simply because of the effects of the assault - if they got no support, were blamed for it or told it didn't happen etc, or it was just too much. Self medicate with drugs / booze etc.

They might end up 'not solid citizens' but it doesn't mean the assault didn't happen. Effect and cause.

It's an incredibly difficult area.

Yeah I get that. I've lived it

Sexual abuse from grandfather age 2/3

Self harming and ED age 8 severe mood swings age 5

Domestic violence from my father whole life until my late 20s

Emotional verbal abuse from father ongoing

Bullied mentally verbally at school

Sexual assault at primary school aged 10 was blamed for it

Sexual assault aged 14 (penetration)

Developed BPD/EUPD complex PTSD and ended up as teenager and adult in and out of MH crisis before intensive therapy .

Age 40 not able to work full time Psych meds damaged a part of my brain that controls movement

24 stone due to ED.

So yeah I know about instability and I was abused at a much younger age that CR's victims (not to say that wasn't traumatic for them)

But when I say solid citizens it turned out these accusers and lied, and kept changing their story . A genuine victim doesn't do that @DuckDragon . Chronic lying can be a trauma symptom but takes form of self aggrandisement usually (narcissism, NPD) or lying to avoid shame or to get out of trouble or as a form of self injury. I'm not sure the accusers fit the profile of those kind of disorder s.

Of course I could be wrong and it could be they didnt lie and it was a cover up by the press to make them look bad. Or maybe something happened but it wasn't clear in their minds.

One of them did have a drug issue due to the alleged abuse. I'm not without sympathy for that . Maybe it was a mistaken identity like with that Stuart Messman (not sure I spelt it right ) who was abused in a children's home by a visiting MP but he got the wrong man. Memories of real trauma are often fuzzy, childhood memories are often fuzzy. Maybe it was False Memories like the Paul Ingram and his daughter Ericka case in 90s USA. I don't know.

I just think we have no way of knowing @DuckDragon as his alleged victims aren't going to be on here being as they were men, and a bit older than most of us.

I'm sorry for what happened to your friend, I'm guessing her abuser was someone very high profile also?

I don’t think he was aiming it at her and if she was upset about it, perhaps she isn’t happy being overweight?

This is almost the exact same response given by school bullies & abusive partners when they get called out. "Not my fault she's too sensitive"

If there was something sinister really going on, then pressure would have been put on his solicitor or on the bank.

So you think a solicitor is going to break client confidentiality? He'd get struck off wouldn't he. Anyway how would "they" know who to put pressure on, no saying he'd use a particular solicitor or bank. I think conspiracy theories go too far.

Store several copies, send copies to an investigative journalist, send a copy to your second cousin in Australia. If it was such an important document I'd spent lots of time researching I'd make sure copies were available.

The actress Sarah Miles was a fan of drinking her own wee. Drank it for decades apparently. Which is nice.

Edited

Was just about to say this , my mum used to go on about it!

old biddies don't exactly like the Rolling Stones etc. Shock

This old biddy does!

And another one here!

Passepartoute · 23/11/2023 09:21

He's on TV because a lot of older people like him and there aren't that many people from the old days you can get on like that - old biddies don't exactly like the Rolling Stones etc.

Weird idea. The Stones are on TV a hell of a lot more than CR, and still attract thousands to their concerts. You have some very strange ideas about what factors into decisions to invite particular individuals on TV.

I’m an ‘old biddy’ and love the Rolling Stones, prefer them to any others of their era. Mick jagger is older than me. So is Cliff Richard come to that. I went to see Cliffs film, Summer Holiday when I was a teenager, he didn’t have the raw energy or earthiness Mick Jagger had or the voice and charisma of Elvis.
Plastic Elvis sums him up.

Uricon2 · 23/11/2023 11:41

I'm another baffled by why "old biddies" (lovely) wouldn't like the Stones, who are all old themselves now. The people who bought their records and went to their concerts in the early 60s will be the same sort of age and IMO the music of your teens tends to be stuff you like for the rest of your life.

The Stones have an intergenerational following though, which I don't think Cliff Richard does.

Iwasafool · 23/11/2023 12:18

I wasn't keen on the Stones in the 60s and I wouldn't cross the road to see them now. If Meat Loaf was still with us I'd love to see him.

LBFseBrom · 23/11/2023 12:30

I liked and like the Stones. Bought their records when I was a teenager in the 1960s, saw them live later on and their gigs are marvellous.

It's a matter of taste, we can't all like the same performers, we're individuals.

Exactly. It's odd that lots of people seem to think if they like/dislike someone everyone must feel the same. Old biddies are as varied as anyone else.

I'm amazed how Cliff looks more like my Nan every time I see him.

I think the younger generation are mixing up different eras's. Cliff was before the Beatles and Stones, completely different fan base and genre, and I agree with the inter-generational comment.

Cliff has his fans and they are extremely loyal but I don't think he picks up many new younger fans, I maybe wrong, I should imagine he has a large Christian following aswell.

I think Cliff has done remarkably well considering he was never 'cool' as it were, maybe for a few short years at the end of the 50's with his debut songs such as Move it, his looks kept the ladies on board, I always found the Cliff fans to be quite innocent ladies if you know what I mean.

Remember when he released the Lords Prayer as a song Confused

That had to be the worst Christmas single ever. Our Father set to the tune of Auld Lang Syne??? Like trying to stuff an octopus into a bikini. It was so bad it wasn’t even an earworm (thanks a bunch for mentioning that one 🙄😂).

I think this poster intended this post to be for @DancesWithDucks .

Hope it's ok to point that out @GrandpaFlumpAndHisFlumpetIsBackAgain .
