What's your little extravagance?

Maybe a guilty pleasure or something you don't strictly need to pay for but you really appreciate the impact of it.

Recently, paying to skip the security queue at a certain nightmare airport is fucking heaven. It seems ridiculous to me to spend £5 on it but i've had stressful queuing experiences where I thought we might miss our flight. Swanning past the queue is bliss but a bit naughty because it costs me nothing to wait in line.

Hmmm maybe. I’ve found manky fruit in most supermarkets and my Aldi is a fairly new one with the doors on the fresh produce but that shouldn’t make much difference. I check what I buy though. I honestly get great food and service in my Aldi. I do like a browse in Waitrose and go in there for harder to find Ingredients if I’m making something special.

Our new motorhome so we can go away whenever we want, we're retired.

I use a stylist to shop for me. Can’t abide shopping and it means I have clothes that I like and fit.

MeinKraft · 28/10/2023 22:53

Ooh this sounds interesting! Do you just give the stylist your measurements and examples of what you like and they shop online? Just wondering how it works.

What a glorious thread. My extravagances are:

Latte at home made with hazelnut coffee pods and Jersey milk - the best way to start the day or perk up a morning.
Audible subscription so I can listen to a new book every month.
Fresh flowers.
Great skincare.
L'occitane Almond shower oil - makes something as functional as a shower more enjoyable.

Ooh jersey milk...I need to try this.

Instead of audible try the Libby app. It's a library ebook listening app, you can basically add in your library subscriptions and join most libraries online and listen to books for free. I go through around 2 a month!

Caswallonthefox · 29/10/2023 00:06

My kindle unlimited subscription, I read a great deal and being able to read as many books as I like for 8.99 a month is awesome.

I have also, today, started to rent a washing machine. The one I have came with the flat, so it's over 12 years old and walks across the kitchen if I put more than 1 towel in it. And maximum spin in 800rpm, anything more than that and again goes walkies.

Someaddedsugar · 29/10/2023 06:30

Another with a sourdough loaf each week from the bakery.

Also flowers from the local florist each pay day.

GuitarGeorgina · 29/10/2023 07:30

@StarDolphins I agree. Perhaps they vary hugely, but the quality of the ‘fresh’ stuff at our nearest one is awful.

She used to send me pictures and I’d say yes or no, but now she prepares a rail and I go and try it all on. It’s expensive (and I do feel guilty!), but I’d be naked without her and need to look well turned out for work.

CarrieMoonbeams · 29/10/2023 08:12

That sounds absolutely fantastic @Applesaarenttheonlyfruit . Not quite in the same league but I once booked a personal shopper at John Lewis (it was free then, don't know about now) and it was brilliant!

Like a lot of people I suppose, I tended to stick to the same brands as my 'safe' work clothes, but she looked out clothes for me in brands I hadn't tried before and it was a game changer for me. She also knew which sizes would be best for me in each brand, which was much better for my self esteem than having to poke my head out of the changing room door on the offchance that there was an assistant there who could find me a bigger size.

And no reason for you to feel guilty about it, it sounds like an excellent use of your time, and your stylist will be earning money and ensuring you don't go to work naked 😲, which saves you from getting arrested, so it's all good!

We did this for the first time this year and I don't know how we'll ever go back to sharing a pool.
