Do we actually know who bombed the hospital in Gaza yet?

I keep seeing mixed reports. It’s really unsettling not to know.

I've literally just watched a BBC report on the news channel with the evidence they are trying to verify. Worth a watch if you have the iPlayer. They don't come to any conclusions just list bits of evidence they are weighing and as far as I can tell that is all anyone can say at this point.

Huwipulotu · 18/10/2023 13:14

I think it is pointless speculating.

all you can be assured of is that the propaganda from both sides is out in full force.

ThreeB · 18/10/2023 13:17

No. UK intelligence services are working to find out what happened but a proper understanding will take time.

It's likely hamas. Russia does similar . There is no military advantage to Israel to destroy a hospital.

DivingForLove · 18/10/2023 13:22

The BBC report definitely suggested it was an internal weapon and not from Israel.

Ertriscia · 18/10/2023 13:24

Won't know for ages. Probably won't know the truth about any of what happens over there for years. And by then they'll have moved onto some other thing to fight about.

If you have relatives in the hospital I can understand how this would make you feel unsettled.

LifeExperience · 18/10/2023 13:24

Check the news. The Israelis have audio intercepts of terrorists talking about their missile going astray and hitting the hospital. About 1/3 of Hamas' missiles miss their targets. They are crude technology, and most do not have guidance systems.

Nicknicksee · 18/10/2023 13:25

Same I saw a video of an Israeli with their concerns being of not having gluten free flour whereas the state in Palestine is absolutely shocking. Plenty of video evidence of loss of life

Doesn't Biden support Israel so not sure his thoughts on the matter are not biased

JaninaDuszejko · 18/10/2023 13:28

The thing is does it really matter? In a war atrocities are committed by both sides. Even if we know who made the rocket that destroyed the hospital how will we ever find out if it was deliberate or an accident. Hundreds of people are dead, that's what happens in a war. It's horrendous.

INeedAnotherName · 18/10/2023 13:29

PenOfTentacles · 18/10/2023 13:24

Independent verification could take a long time but Reuters have reported that Biden says it is likely Hamas or other ‘foes’ of Israel.

Biden doesn't know either but we all know he's a staunch supporter of Israel so his words mean nothing.

Because the hospital was in Gaza. Where the only Israelis present are hostages taken by Hamas and not in the hospital?

Starboy14 · 18/10/2023 13:29

Audio on Sky News of Hamas terrorists talking about the misfire. Supposedly shot from a graveyard behind the hospital.

crumblingschools · 18/10/2023 13:29

And if Israel cared surely they would be helping people caught up in such a tragedy, by at least letting aid in

This is a war against civillians - if there is nowhere "safe" people will leave.

That is the strategy.

crumblingschools · 18/10/2023 13:31

The IDF are saying the only damage was to a car park by a misfired terrorist missile. How come so many dead then? Were they all sheltering in the car park?

So it was an accidental hit, as opposed to being targeted at the hospital? I'd assumed that was the case, but so many reports made it sound intentional. War is bad enough, but surely hospitals are out of bounds.

Where are they saying that? Where did you read that?

crumblingschools · 18/10/2023 13:33

@sleepyscientist how do people evacuate from a hospital? Where do they go once they go South?

PenOfTentacles · 18/10/2023 13:34

Of course leaders of democratic states align themselves with those who share their values. Hamas, ISIS and similar groups are never going to be accepted by countries who are value gender equality, religious tolerance and universal suffrage.

crumblingschools · 18/10/2023 13:35

@NotSuchASmugMarried

From BBC website:An IDF news conference: The Israeli military's spokesman Daniel Hagari spoke to reporters earlier and said:

  • The Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group caused the blast at a Gaza City hospital on Tuesday with a misfired rocket

  • The "only location damaged" was a car park outside the Al Ahli hospital (pictured above) "where we can see signs of burning"

  • He said an Israeli missile - which Hamas said caused the explosion - would have caused bigger "craters and structural damage", and insisted it was the PiJ who were to blame

Israel Gaza live news: Panic and grief at scene of Gaza hospital blast - BBC News

The BBC reports from scene of explosion in Gaza City where hundreds were taking shelter.

It doesn’t matter, in a way.

people believe what they want to believe and what they have been conditioned to believe.

no evidence, for either side is going to change that.
