Do we actually know who bombed the hospital in Gaza yet?

I keep seeing mixed reports. It’s really unsettling not to know.

I didn't personally think it was that heartwarming seeing extremist groups on the streets of London or the Isis flag being waved around but that must just be my Islamophobia.
I knew that the demonstrations would attract some highly unsavoury participants, for all I'm sure the majority were well-meaning.

@HeidiInTheBigCity that is quite some whataboutery. Luckily the posters on here are mainly a literate and informed bunch who can draw their own conclusions.

Yes, the various Isis flags waved around central London today were… quite something.

More generally I don’t think the endless YEAH BUT WHAT ABOUT [insert link} !!!! on here is the way to resolution, for those of us wanting it. This is a complex and so far intractable problem, and inching forward trying to find common ground is likely to be much more productive than trying to shout someone else into submission. If you see things as black and white / good and evil, you are very likely part of the problem imo.

Of course the vast majority are well meaning and it is heartwarming to me that they would go out and use their voices to try and enact change. People should never sit quietly as their governments condone war crimes, acts of terror and crimes against humanity. If you want to only see negatives that is your choice.

I'm not sure why you are confessing that you are Islamaphobic but erm I hope you can get help for that Confused

I'm afraid the "but" factor is extremely childish. Somebody has mentioned elsewhere, in this case, there are no yes, buts.

Show me the post where I did this?

I was responding directly to your - frankly very cynical, inhumane, even! - post that essentially stated "oh, sort of shit for Palestinians, happens when you live under a terrorist government!"

Why do you dismiss the suffering of Palestinian civilians with such nonchalence? When I, myself, have explicitly stated that I would not stand for Israelis having to go through the same for theirs?

I think, and have stated, what happened on 7 Oct was horrific, inexcusable, a war crime and far beyond what international law allows in terms of self-defense under occupation. And that my take on this does not depend on whether or not their government happens to include a few perhaps somewhat rabidly racist advocated of state terrorism and ethnic cleansing!

Now, will you or will you not admit that Palestinian civilians do not deserve to be brutally and collectively punished for their leaders´ acts either?

This is a yes or no sort of question!

FOJN · 21/10/2023 18:21

when your government is a terrorist organisation unfortunately quality of life is likely to be impeded even if your neighbour is unimpeachable.

And where civilian populations are brutally oppressed by their government we usually have sympathy for them rather than try to starve them to death.

and unlike Gazans, Israelis HAVE had elections sind 2006.

4 since 2019 IIRC and they now have a hard right government which no one would have a problem criticising if it were in Europe like Hungary for example.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 21/10/2023 18:24

Oh course I will - you’re the second person to ask me Confused. Unfortunately Hamas don’t make their people’s lives easier and admitting that and focusing on it for a bit is OK, we don’t immediately need to segue into what three random Israeli politicians think.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 21/10/2023 18:25

I expect you think you’re being measured and informative @HeidiInTheBigCity but it’s all so much heat.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 21/10/2023 18:25

From where this poster is sitting, anyway, across various threads on this topic.

@SomeCatFromJapan security services will be watching whose holding isis flags like a hawk

SomeCatFromJapan · 21/10/2023 21:28

@RoyalImpatience I bloody hope so as the Met couldn't have been less bothered if they'd tried.

But maybe it's good if they show themselves like that.

RoyalImpatience · 21/10/2023 21:37

Oh no this sort of even definitely flushes them out to security services..

Are they actually ISIS flags though?

The metropolitan police tweeted about this. It seems they might be declaration of faith flags. I mean, I personally wouldn't want to risk giving the wrong impression so wouldn't wave it*, but if it's not a jate specific/hate exclusive flag, then technically they haven't done anything wrong.

*Also I'm not Muslim so a declaration of faith would be a bit pointless and wrong!

London has some great facial recognition cameras. Plus the anti extremist government agencies will have been checking it out. Trying to get a few more names on there list of who to investigate

SomeCatFromJapan · 21/10/2023 23:33

Okay I foundout a bit more, it was this lot, who are banned in various places like Germany and actually most Arab countries. The Met Police tweeted (X'd? Doesn't sound right) confirming their presence but saying the word "Jihad" in this context was apparently fine according to their counterterrorism officers.

There was then another incident which the police DID describe as a hate crime:https://twitter.com/metpoliceuk/status/1715778905326366916

I'm totally down a rabbit hole of fundamentalist flags now 😂

Basically, it seems that a lot of them are virtually identical. They all have the Shahadah on them - it's a Muslim declaration of faith ("There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger.") and has nothing to do with hate/terror/war. This sentence (usually in the same calligraphic style as in the flags) is used in Islamic art, architecture, coins, the lot.

As Islam has strict rules on creating images, and the Shahadah is the first pillar of their faith, is the basis for a lot of flags - both peaceful and not.

This website is interesting

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=netpol.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Counter-Terrorism-Policing-Extremist-Symbols-and-Flags.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwihs-vUnYiCAxVT_7sIHVglAz8QFnoECCEQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1SL15roiF6pVDdxUQy1hvd

And here are a few other flags.

I personally would get like it's been commandeered by enough questionable groups that I'd distance myself from it, if it were me, but I also feel that period shouldn't feel they have to if declaring those words is a fundamental part of their beliefs.

"The explosion that killed and injured many civilians at al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza on October 17, 2023, resulted from an apparent rocket-propelled munition, such as those commonly used by Palestinian armed groups, that hit the hospital grounds, Human Rights Watch said today."

It’s odd how little coverage this is getting isn’t it?
