TORY VOTERS: Keir has a message for you....

He said: “If you are a Conservative voter who despairs of this, if you look in horror at the descent of your party into the murky waters of populism and conspiracy, with no argument for economic change; if you feel our children need a party that conserves, that fights for our union, our environment, the rule of law, family life, the careful bond between this generation and the next – then let me tell you, Britain already has one. And you can join it – it’s this Labour party.”

OK but are there really those many people with 17 year old cars that drive regularly to village coffee shops and stores?

Pensioners probably - if you've bought a new car in retirement/near retirement and you only drive 2,000 miles a year then you're not going to have a high mileage car after 17 years.

The diesel cut-off is September 2015 - why would you want to pay an extra £12.50 for your coffee and cake if you live just outside the ULEZ boundary and there are other options available?

shoeawsome · 13/10/2023 19:59

£1.6 Billion on the barge!
£4 Billion wasted on PPE
£4.3 Billion of fraudulent Covid loans written off!

Yeah I want another 5 years of that! 😕

But hooray I won't have to have 7 bins, car share & pay a non existent meat tax!

They are all liars. Every single one of them.

But some are bigger liars than others aren't they!

Are you seeing the stuff coming out of the Covid enquiry! 😱

Don't worry you can ‘hooray’ at how much PFI you’re still paying off too

For just £13bn of investment, the NHS has been landed with an £80bn bill.

We're in the mess because of the Tories, they are responsible for Brexit, making our Country poorer, interest rates through the roof due the power crazed Liz Truss!

Why has the European Central Bank raised its interest rates 10 times if it's all Liz Truss's fault?

In 1992 PFI was implemented for the first time in the UK by the Conservative Government led by John Major.

Yes Labour continued to use it, and at least it got us some new hospitals! Unlike BJ's imaginary ones!

The costs have increased massively due to inflation caused by yes you guessed it! And actually if the Govt wanted to get rid they have had 13 years!

Sewage pouring into our seas & rivers
Broken rail system
Energy companies making billions of profits while people sit in their houses with their coats on
Schools crumbling because Rishi cut the school building program by 50%

But at least he knows what a woman is!

I know it's important, I do but compared to everything else! 🤷‍♀️

AdrianaLaCerva · 13/10/2023 20:30

Nah, I’ll pass thanks. He can come back when he can confirm 100% of women are penis-less. A few more policies would be nice too.

Get rid of what exactly?

PFI isn’t used anymore as it was considered inflexible, overly complex and a source of significant fiscal risk to government.

The multiple contracts set up by majority Blair are still going because that’s how they work. They are hugely expensive with mark up and take decades to expire

Right now NHS trusts are sleepwalking into costly disputes with PFI providers as the contracts started expiring.

Like a proper living wage
Scrapping zero hour contracts
Recouping the fraudulent Covid loan funding

Those sort of policies do you mean? Like the ones announced this week?

Well then they are in power, they need to sort it out, but they aren't sorting anything out!

They are just looking round for more stuff to chick on the bonfire!

It’s due to the contracts put in place during last Labour gov

It was the biggest PPP heist ever and people crow about it not realising they’re still massively over paying

It won’t be ‘sorted out’ unless you have a time machine

£4.3 Billion of fraudulent Covid loans written off!

Revised figures appear to be here;
In total, about £1.65bn worth of bounce back loans had been flagged for fraud at the end of June, according to the latest Covid loan figures. The government has so far paid out £1.3bn of that total to banks to cover the lenders’ losses.

The figure is already higher than the £1.1bn the business department estimated would be lost due to fraud and error through the scheme. The government originally estimated that nearly £5bn could be at risk, but had since revised down their estimates.

It all Governments make mistakes, Margaret Thatcher selling off the utilities hasn't worked out that well for us either has it?

But it's what happening now that's important & I don't see anything happening!

I don't see the Govt even trying to sort anything out!

Are Labour planning any IT projects?

"A series of botched IT projects has left taxpayers
with a bill of more than £26bn for computer systems that have suffered
severe delays, run millions of pounds over budget or have been
cancelled altogether.
"An investigation by The Independent has found that the total cost of Labour's
10 most notorious IT failures is equivalent to more than half of the budget
for Britain's schools last year. Parliament's spending watchdog has
described the projects as "fundamentally flawed" and blamed
ministers for "stupendous incompetence" in managing them.
"Further evidence has emerged over the failings of Labour's most costly
programme, the mammoth £12.7bn IT scheme to revolutionise the NHS. The
Independent has learnt that just 160 health organisations out of about 9,000
are using electronic patient records delivered under the scheme."

At the 2018 Budget, the Chancellor Philip Hammond announced that he will abolish the use of private finance initiatives (PFI) for future building projects.

About "he doesn't know what a woman is", Keir Starmer said just a few days ago that "a woman is a female adult": https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2023/oct/07/starmer-warns-labour-dont-get-giddy-over-prospect-of-election-victory

Labour's position on this has definitely evolved over time, but it seems to me that the platform they will run on for the election is significantly more GC than it used to be.

That means nothing if a 'female' can self identify. Keir speaks his weasel words too frequently.

Brumbies · 13/10/2023 09:41

This!

Yes. Birmingham city council was run into the ground by Labour there. Now it looks like everyone living there will have to pay additional council tax.

What have the Tories done for ANYONE (who isn’t their rich mates) including working people with no kids?

Subsidised childcare places from 3 years for all DC and from 2 years for some dc soon. That is a lot of support for working parents.

I think Starmer got himself tied up in knots over this as he was insistent on using the legal definition in the early days

The legal definition of an adult female includes someone with a Gender Recognition Certificate and a penis. Starmer hasn't clarified anything.

ULEZ is a Tory policy

Not for outer London.

In Birmingham a Labour controlled council pushed ULEZ through.

@Clavinova, on MN you are not allowed to point out the benefits of Brexit.

shoeawsome · 13/10/2023 21:17

Yes it has definitely has! And plans to bring in more support through the new child minder scheme!

Rishi Sunak "inadvertently" broke the code of conduct for MPs by not correctly declaring his wife's financial interest in a childminding company set to benefit from government support.

Honestly I'd just be pleased if they could competently run the Country because no matter what has happened in the past they are in charge now

shoeawsome · 13/10/2023 21:24

Anyway I'm bowing out!

The Op is long gone after 1 post!

People have to vote for who they think will do the best job of running the Country!

Women's rights are so important and I don't believe that women have penises!

But I also believe that if this lot get into power again we won't care what we are called because we'll all be on our knees!

Rachel Reeves had her parliamentary credit card suspended -

In 2015, Reeves was one of nineteen MPs to have her official credit card suspended by IPSA after racking up £4,033.63 in invalid expense spending – the third-highest sum of all nineteen listed.
