TORY VOTERS: Keir has a message for you....

He said: “If you are a Conservative voter who despairs of this, if you look in horror at the descent of your party into the murky waters of populism and conspiracy, with no argument for economic change; if you feel our children need a party that conserves, that fights for our union, our environment, the rule of law, family life, the careful bond between this generation and the next – then let me tell you, Britain already has one. And you can join it – it’s this Labour party.”

Message for Keir:

Fuck off to the far end of fuck you woke twat!

Oh yes 'woke' that generic catch all insult which means absolutely nothing but means the user think they have a sound political brain.

Happy to bulldoze over our planning laws that exist for good reason, and destroy our countryside for a few extra votes.

No thanks. I won't vote Tory but I certainly won't be voting for him either.

propped up people during covid with furlough?

mortgage holidays during covid?

made it impossible to evict people for rent arrears during covid?

There must have been some posters who got direct payments into accounts over last year or so, there were a fair few threads from some

About "he doesn't know what a woman is", Keir Starmer said just a few days ago that "a woman is a female adult": https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2023/oct/07/starmer-warns-labour-dont-get-giddy-over-prospect-of-election-victory

Labour's position on this has definitely evolved over time, but it seems to me that the platform they will run on for the election is significantly more GC than it used to be.

I think Starmer got himself tied up in knots over this as he was insistent on using the legal definition in the early days. He's definitely learned his lesson. I can't see how anyone would actually think the Conservatives respect women. They put Johnson in Downing Street to start with.

luckylavender · 13/10/2023 13:37

@Brumbies - that's how many of us think. Rebadged UKIP/ Brexit Party. Right wing to the point of faciscm. Dangerous losers.

I’ve voted for several different parties over the years including Labour, but I won’t be voting Labour this time for various reasons - the last straw for me was ULEZ.

ULEZ is a Tory policy.

LapsedRunnerC25k · 13/10/2023 13:37

The Tories know who we are but they don’t really give a fuck about us.

It’s a political (and literal) nightmare for women.

I’ll take that over Corbyn given current Hamas atrocities

ULEZ is a Tory policy.

And yet the expansion is being forced through by Labour.

The legal definition of an adult female includes someone with a Gender Recognition Certificate and a penis. Starmer hasn't clarified anything.

ULEZ is a Tory policy

Not for outer London.

because Shapps forced him

That's not correct - but even if it were - you are referring to the ULEZ expansion in October 2021 - not the outer London expansion this year.

ginasevern · 13/10/2023 13:53

@dutysuite

ULEZ (or something very similar) would have happened no matter who was in power. It is incredibly naive to think otherwise. However, to be fair the Tories did start it and Boris Johnson was hell bent on expanding it.

Vote Reform UK is the only way to go if you want change.

Reform UK, the 'party' of Fox and Farage. What woman could ask for more?

andtheworldrollson · 13/10/2023 14:16

ULEZ is about saving life's, reducing the pressure on the NHS ... yeah a really stupid idea

Although I think people got upset when seat belt laws were introduced

Clavinova · 13/10/2023 14:18

milenat
Err...that's exactly what he and Rachel Reeves just did at the party conference if you had bothered to listen!

I keep hearing Rachel Reeves and Keir Starmer either saying or implying that Labour are going to abolish the non-dom tax status.

That's misleading though isn't it - Labour plan to replace the non-dom tax status with a similar tax regime for wealthy foreigners, albeit for a shorter period of time;

The Labour party has suggested that post abolition of non-dom tax status, a replacement tax regime for people who are temporarily in the UK would be introduced...
So far Labour has not volunteered any details...
The period during which such a replacement regime would apply to a person is up for debate; the suspicion is that it would be around five years, which would be competitive with countries such as Spain which has special tax rules for in-bound expatriates.
However, the estimated tax revenue halves to £1.6bn if the existing remittance basis is kept for non-doms in a reformed regime that retains existing tax benefits for five years.

BananaPyjamaLlama · 13/10/2023 14:49

I wouldnt ever contemplate voting Tory. Because obviously.......
But like many Im not happy about voting Labour or Lib dem atm either. I cannot vote Tory but equally I cannot vote for a party who do not know what a woman is.

FanFckingTastic · 13/10/2023 15:03

ULEZ is about saving life's, reducing the pressure on the NHS ... yeah a really stupid idea

I think that if expanding the ULEZ zone to the quiet country lanes where I live was genuinely going to save lives and reduce the pressure on the NHS then communities wouldn't be so up in arms about it. As it stands, it would just appear to be a tax on the people that can least afford to pay it. It's not really to do with safety, saving the planet or saving lives - it's more to do with generating large amounts of revenue.

ginasevern · 13/10/2023 16:02

@FanFckingTastic

To be fair, ULEZ will save lives, help the environment etc etc, but in reality it has been introduced to raise revenue. We all know this. But, as per my previous comment, every single party will eventually expand it (no matter what they promise with a GE looming). In fact similar schemes will be in every city in Europe. It really is a no brainer and naive to think otherwise. As for it hitting the poorest in society, I am in that bracket and I drive a 2007 petrol car which would be free from the charge. I find it very hard to believe that thousands upon thousands of people in London own cars even older than mine. There aren't many in my city I can assure you. Besides, London does have a pretty good joined up public transport system.

FanFckingTastic · 13/10/2023 16:21

@ginasevern You are right, central London has an excellent, joined up transport system. The outer boroughs just don't have this. Lots of people are affected by the expansion - whether that's because they have a car that's not compliant or as a knock-on effect of the new charges. Like it or not, the ULEZ policy will definitely have a steer on the way that people choose to vote.

ginasevern · 13/10/2023 17:23

@FanFckingTastic

I thought ULEZ charges only applied to petrol cars older than 2007 or deisel older than 2015? Forgive me if I'm wrong. What would the knock on effects of the new charges be?

FanFckingTastic · 13/10/2023 18:00

@ginasevern There are numerous knock-on effects. Fewer people are going out and using local shops and services because they can't get to them without incurring a penalty so local village coffee shops and stores etc. are half empty. Tradespeople are increasing their prices because their (usually diesel) work vans are not compliant and they need to pass the cost on. Traffic on certain roads - usually the smaller, single track roads that are not really meant for larger volumes traffic - have increased as people try and duck round the cameras. So whilst I may not be charged a fine for a non-compliant car myself, I can see and feel the impact of the changes.

ginasevern · 13/10/2023 18:17

@FanFckingTastic

OK but are there really those many people with 17 year old cars that drive regularly to village coffee shops and stores? That sounds like a luxury outing for someone on the lower socio economic scale. I've said that my car is 2007 and I am classed as poor. I can't afford to drive to a pretty village to buy a latte and slice of carrot cake or to shop in its local stores. Maybe once in a blue moon but not enough to impact their business if I and people like me stopped going. I really can't imagine that the cafes and stores of which you speak are "half empty" because there has been a mass exodus of old banger car drivers.

shoeawsome · 13/10/2023 19:47

What a depressing thread this is!

Another 5 years of this bunch & there won't be anything left!

I'm GC but I'd rather have an NHS, green policies with quality green jobs being part of the EVHR, better relations with the EU to ease up trade & families being able to feed their kids & put the heating!

We're in the mess because of the Tories, they are responsible for Brexit, making our Country poorer, interest rates through the roof due the power crazed Liz Truss!
They are operating a scorched earth policy! I don't think they even want to get back into power!

How can anyone think of voting for more of that!

It's crazy!

RudsyFarmer · 13/10/2023 19:50

They are all liars. Every single one of them.
