TORY VOTERS: Keir has a message for you....

ShippingForecastSnooze · 13/10/2023 06:47

He said: “If you are a Conservative voter who despairs of this, if you look in horror at the descent of your party into the murky waters of populism and conspiracy, with no argument for economic change; if you feel our children need a party that conserves, that fights for our union, our environment, the rule of law, family life, the careful bond between this generation and the next – then let me tell you, Britain already has one. And you can join it – it’s this Labour party.”

What achievements are those?
An illegal war that destabilised a whole area of the world and led to massive refugee numbers?
Or a bail out of the banks that bankrupted the country?

Maybe not the same problems, but I'm not sure you can be blowing labour's trumpet over their "achievements"

I think a generation has grown up taking the following Labour achievements for granted, but they didnt just happen & they wouldn't have happened without the vision & hard political graft of the Labour government. So you may not like the minimum wage, or civil partnerships or better staffed hospitals & low waiting lists. Fine. But just dont pretend they are 'all the same'.

Longest period of sustained low inflation since the 60s & Low mortgage rates.
Introduced the National Minimum Wage
Over 14,000 more police in England and Wales.
Cut overall crime by 32 per cent.
Record levels of literacy and numeracy in schools.
Young people achieving some of the best ever results at 14, 16, and 18.
Funding for every pupil in England has doubled.
Employment is at its highest level ever.
85,000 more nurses.
32,000 more doctors.
Brought back matrons to hospital wards.
Devolved power to the Scottish Parliament.
Devolved power to the Welsh Assembly.
Paternity leave of 2 weeks for the first time.
NHS Direct
Gift aid
Restored city-wide government to London.
Record number of students in higher education.
Child benefit up 26 per cent since 1997.
Delivered 2,200 Sure Start Children’s Centres.
Introduced the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
£200 winter fuel payment to pensioners & up to £300 for over-80s.
Good Friday Agreement/restored devolved government to Northern Ireland
Over 36,000 more teachers in England and 274,000 more support staff and teaching assistants.
24 days paid holiday for f/t workers
A million pensioners lifted out of poverty.
600,000 children lifted out of relative poverty.
Introduced child tax credit giving more money to parents.
Scrapped Section 28 and introduced Civil Partnerships.
Brought over 1 million social homes up to standard.
Inpatient waiting lists down by over half a million since 1997.
Banned fox hunting.
Cleanest rivers, beaches, drinking water and air since before the industrial revolution.
Free TV licences for over-75s.
Banned fur farming and the testing of cosmetics on animals.
Free breast cancer screening for all women aged between 50-70.
Free off peak local bus travel for over-60s.
New Deal – helped over 1.8 million people into work.
Over 3 million child trust funds have been started.
Free eye test for over 60s.
More than doubled the number of apprenticeships.
Free entry to national museums and galleries.
Overseas aid budget more than doubled.
Heart disease deaths down by 150,000 and cancer deaths down by 50,000.
Cut long-term youth unemployment by 75 per cent.
Free nursery places for every three and four-year-olds.
Free fruit for most four to six-year-olds at school.

Won't change the benefits cap

Want to keep grinding us down to accept penis people

Thornberry and Lammy refuse to agree that international law is international law

Starmer wants to override what you want and push planning decisions through regardless

They want to force non-married couples (and does that just apply to couples?) into having marital status

Want to "ban conversion therapy". Newsflash: all those things are already illegal. What they propose is transing gay kids and making parents agree or else

Want to flood the state sector with private school kids whose parents will pull them out. Schools will be instantly overrrun

No plan for immigration

Sorry what are they even offering? After all these years, I was expecting better.

About "he doesn't know what a woman is", Keir Starmer said just a few days ago that "a woman is a female adult": https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2023/oct/07/starmer-warns-labour-dont-get-giddy-over-prospect-of-election-victory

Labour's position on this has definitely evolved over time, but it seems to me that the platform they will run on for the election is significantly more GC than it used to be.

Starmer warns Labour: ‘Don’t get giddy over prospect of election victory’ | Keir Starmer | The Guardian

In an exclusive interview, the party’s leader says it is on course for Downing Street, but must not repeat past opposition mistakes

Do they know the difference between teachers and dentists? 😆 that's the other one that had me. 13 years in opposition and that's one of their key policies?!

They are all just as bad as each other. We'll get a decade or more of whatever flavour Labour is this time around and be saying exactly the same things that we're saying now. It's always the same shit, different party.

Rubbish- “short” nhs waiting times, sure start scheme- all under labour, not saying they were perfect but how people can look at the tories over the last 13 yrs and think of 1 positive I’m utterly bemused.

CloudyAgain · 13/10/2023 08:06

HermioneWeasley · 13/10/2023 07:21

message for Keir:

I am a floating voter in a marginal constituency- I am exactly the sort of middle aged woman you need to win over. I am utterly sick of government incompetence, but I firmly believe that women’s rights once lost are lost forever and I don’t believe they are safe with Labour. A better working NHS is no use to me if my elderly mum and I can’t use it if there are mixed sex wards or requesting a female HCP and getting a male.

what will make me believe you

  • apologise to Rosie duffield
  • apologise for your attempt at compelled speech - you said that “Only women have a cervix” isn’t right and “is something that shouldn’t be said”
  • use accurate language - talk about single sex spaces not “safe spaces”. Be clear that female means actually female, not anyone who identifies as female.
  • stop talking about making it easier to change gender

Hear hear.

And what @ResisterRex said.

Not all of those are achievements, they are just something that they did (eg devolution, child trust funds, winter fuel payments to all pensioners). Not all of those are necessarily the result of a Labour government (eg low inflation)

Some were about massaging statistics and had disastrous long term impact, eg the youth unemployment figures. They reduced those by raising the school leaving age. Raising the school age has not been a good thing in any way shape or form, it has made college education harder to deliver and not been great for kids at either secondary or college.

And I'm not sure if you took all of them at face value they balance out illegal war and bankrupting country. You could say everything happening now is a legacy of those two Labour screwups

Freysimo · 13/10/2023 08:16

Starmer said not long ago that Wales was his blueprint for power (Wales is governed by Welsh Labour). He's twice declined to repeat this claim and no wonder, with the state of Welsh NHS, education, roads etc. If you want to see what Labour in power will look like, check out Wales where the First Minister has publicly said transgender women are women.

Definitely. I think he has listened/read the polling. Labour has rejected self ID but is still planning to ban conversion therapy. This needs to be reversed too. The Women's Declaration fringe meeting was packed out apparently and more Labour women are being more vocal. I think we can turn this around with concerted pressure. Everyone needs to lobby their Labour candidates.

Highandlows · 13/10/2023 08:19

May be look at Wales and the councils going bankrupt in other places being currently Labour.

hamstersarse · 13/10/2023 08:20

The only thing I know about what kier starmer thinks is that he says some women can have penises, he wants to end private schools charity status (my ds had a free private education due to this), and he thinks Angela Rayner is competent.

I genuinely don’t know anything else about what he believes. Hes one of those people who is hard to listen to, I zone out almost immediately, the word salad is too much, he doesn’t really ever say anything and I like to hear people’s real opinions whether I agree with them or not. This wishy washy noncommittal approach won’t win him the election imo 🤷‍♀️

Even the op can’t articulate why exactly someone should vote for him? Is it just that he’s ‘nice’?

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/10/2023 08:26

No thanks, don't vote for either.

A man can legally identify as an adult female with a Gender Recognition Certificate and a penis. Starmer needs to clarify what he means.

Keir can fuck off to the far side of fuck and when he gets there fuck off some more.

Such an insightful contribution. Can you say why? Why should Keir fuck off? I'm not a Labour voter btw, as we don't get to decide who ultimately rules us from Westminster, because we have our 'own' government in NI. Just interested ...

Under Labour things can only get worse Sir on the fence til he's forced to lie can do one.

Stompythedinosaur · 13/10/2023 08:58

It's so depressing that Labour is abandoning it's left wing followers to appeal to Tory voters.

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 13/10/2023 08:58

If Labour are pro-environment they really need to have a word with their colleagues running Cardiff council who are determined to tear up as much green space as possible with corrupt deals that are so transparent I'd be inclined to believe they were Tories.

I judge the party as a whole, what each member says and does is important. Labour are clearly telling me on a local level that the environment doesn't matter, that women who complain there's a man in the ladies toilets are likely to be cautioned by the police and that penalising the motorist whilst simultaneously allowing public transport to become an increasing joke is the way forward. Almost forgot this one, Labour also want the people of Wales to only be exposed to politics that fits the socialist mindset - the very heart of democracy is opposition. Someone to hold a mirror to your actions and make critical judgements of them to ensure you're not operating in a dictatorship.

In short I trust Labour as much as I trust the Conservatives.

hamstersarse · 13/10/2023 09:12

There is no way Kier will clarify his position on trans. I happened to be in Liverpool the other day while the conference was on, it was jam packed with trans women and pink hair types…he has made them welcome, championed them, and now would have to betray them, that’s a difficult call.

milenat · 13/10/2023 09:37

'Woke twat'
'Knee-taking creep'
