EXCL: Andrew Rosindell remains under investigation for sexual offences — including indecent assault and abuse of a position of trust.

Now the Conservative MP has had his bail extended until February 2024.

He’s still never informed his constituents.

Thanks Duncin Brew

That report says he has a "gentleman's agreement" not to attend Parliament but he's been on foreign jollies as an MP!

They can't ban MPs from the estate because it leaves constituents without representation. I can see the point but I'd expect them to look at a work around somehow.

DuncinToffee · 17/09/2023 12:08

@RafaistheKingofClay

Is that the first time he’s been named in a national newspaper?

Ooh, I don't know, could well be the case.

Seems like there has been a bit of foot dragging to tackle how best to deal with MPs accused of sexual offences.

In 2022, MPs on the women and equalities select committee asked the procedure committee to investigate whether those under investigation should be excluded on a precautionary basis. Though the procedure committee declined, a consultation was launched by the House of Commons commission, the ultimate body overseeing the chamber, which earlier this year said MPs under investigation or charged with crimes should be banned, pending an expert panel’s risk assessment. The government has not said when MPs will get the chance to approve such plans.

He was named in a Times report in July.

DuncinToffee · 17/09/2023 12:14

Was that when he was reselected to stand as Tory MP?

No he was reselected in March. The article in July was about him not attending Parliament for a year and is very very similar to todays article (haven't checked word for word).

I guess the new news (!) was that his bail has been extended.

You'd think they'd had enough experience of it by now.
Just checking in with my member of pointythings cat army.

Thanks Notonthestairs

I had assumed that they would withdraw the Whip as that would seem like the more efficient method of dealing with it but it looks like he'd would have had to go to before a central CCHQ committee to be reselected and for whatever reason they didnt want to do that.

I do wonder whether it is time we made MPs employees of their parties so that the party can take full corporate responsibility. But I am sure there must be good reasons why this can't happen.

BIossomtoes · 17/09/2023 14:03

I guess if that happened some of them would decide not to represent constituents who hadn’t voted for them.

Piggywaspushed · 17/09/2023 14:19

Found you!

Thanks OP and great title pointy.

You're doing a sterling job of starting new ones.

I was just away for a while (driving 2.5 hours!).

It's easy to search for "thread x"

DuncinToffee · 17/09/2023 20:25

I don't mind starting threads as long as the title suggestions keep coming Wine

The RB story is dominant but I did gasp when James Cleverly said the entertainment industry has questions to answer. He must be so relieved it's not the government's fault for once.

Notonthestairs · 18/09/2023 08:22

I see Truss is giving a speech today outlining why she was right. Certain sections of the party will be prompted to yell that much louder for tax cuts even as public buildings crumble, waiting lists get longer and systems fail.

pointythings · 18/09/2023 08:25

The title wasn't just me, I had help from a fortuitous misread.

What I don't understand is how an MP on bail for rape isn't just suspended.
