Seems like there has been a bit of foot dragging to tackle how best to deal with MPs accused of sexual offences.
In 2022, MPs on the women and equalities select committee asked the procedure committee to investigate whether those under investigation should be excluded on a precautionary basis. Though the procedure committee declined, a consultation was launched by the House of Commons commission, the ultimate body overseeing the chamber, which earlier this year said MPs under investigation or charged with crimes should be banned, pending an expert panel’s risk assessment. The government has not said when MPs will get the chance to approve such plans.
