And that is partly why we are in the mess we are in. If newspapers had to tell the truth...

I always watch elections, having a doze in between the waiting, I watch US ones too Blush

I'll bring the cheesy footballs !

I’ve been put off since I dozed off and briefly woke up to Farage admitting defeat in the EU referendum.

Errolwasahero · 08/10/2023 16:43

I would love to join the party but I fear I will be sitting in a corner with my beer, crying into it; strong Tory seat here and labour a distant third behind the SNP. If I vote labour it will split the vote more and give the bastards even more of a mandate 😝😝😝

Mine used to be the safest Tory seat in the country. It’s predicted it only has a 44% chance of staying that way. Courage, mon brave!

Cornettoninja · 08/10/2023 17:07

According to Paul Brand there’s a deep fake audio clip of Kier Starmar being a arsehole to his staff floating around.

Given the leave campaigns embracing of cyber strategy I’m going to guess there’s a few in the tories corner who wouldn’t be adverse to these tactics. Shame they don’t employ it to make Rishi sound like less of a gormless wanker.

Yes, I saw there was a fake Keir clip, even a couple of Tory MPs called it out

Poll predicts landslide Labour election victory with 12 cabinet ministers losing their seats

Dramatic findings point to Conservatives losing every red wall seat that they secured at the last election

Braverman has dropped to just predicted 9% lead and that's with the boundary changes!

verdantverdure · 08/10/2023 18:01

Our seat was specially gerrymandered to protect a member of the cabinet.

But we have big mortgages round here.

So letting Liz Truss fuck them up was a big mistake.

HUGE.

The meat tax might be imaginary but the "Tory mortgage tax" is real.

Bye Bye Tories. Bye Bye 👋

ThatbloodyRoblox · 08/10/2023 18:02

I am not so sure about the prediction for my seat. It is a new constituency and it says it will be red. I hope I am very wrong but I can't see that happening. The Tory MP from down the road is not standing in his old seat as he wants this one. He is constantly in the town.
I will be watching closely and as much as I would vote Labour if it comes to it I will vote tactically which I think could be Indy or yellow.

itsgettingweird · 08/10/2023 18:15

Tactful voting here would send a Braverman on her way.

Unfortunately I have no confidence in my local people to do that

L1ttledrummergirl · 08/10/2023 18:27

I know people from that neck of the wood @itsgettingweird (dh part of the football scene) and we have many friends who now fall either the boundary changes.

Braverman isn't popular.

Something to cheer us

https://www.theguardian.com/inequality/2023/oct/09/working-class-deserting-tories-in-droves-under-rishi-sunak-poll-finds

@MrTiddlesTheCat the Mail is disgusting, using what is happening to try to revive the Labour=anti semitic storm.

Anyone who cheers what Hamas has done is equally disgusting. I don't know if anyone read any of the threads over the weekend (lots got pulled) but they were a really depressing read. A lot of hate spewed from both sides of the conflict.

Working class deserting Tories in droves under Rishi Sunak, poll finds

But report says Labour lead is much narrower among working-class voters than electorate as a whole and urges focus on fairness

Hate never makes things better.

No, but it seems to sometimes make the world go round. Sorry, am rather despairing of humanity today!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/10/2023 09:43

Some of the threads this weekend have genuinely shocked me. I'm an intelligent educated person with a law degree yet I can't begin to comprehend the complexities of the Isreal/Palestian situation and would dare to assert my judgment on it. Yet so many people on here are so confident in their knowledge and understanding that they're prepared to use it to justify the brutal murder of hundreds of innocent people. It beggars belief.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/10/2023 09:45
  • wouldn't dare that should say. Can't edit on the app.
IClaudine · 09/10/2023 09:50

I feel the same MrTiddles.

countrygirl99 · 09/10/2023 10:02

The whole Israel/Palestine issue is hideously complicated and over the years neither side has behaved well but the current situation is well into war crime territory and it's so hard to understand how anyone could plan and justify the actions. But sadly you don't have to look back far in history to see many examples.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/10/2023 10:24

The situation in Israel and Palestine is utterly heartbreaking. Families grieving and terrified on both sides of the barrier.

The wider ramifications are also bloody scary.

I've given a donation to Medicins Sans Frontier this morning. They give medical help in areas where political and war situations mean that few other organisations dare go in.

IClaudine · 09/10/2023 10:29

That us a good idea, ohyoubadbadkitten

pointythings · 09/10/2023 10:36

I agree that the Israel situation is dreadful and that Hamas are fully committing war crimes, but at the same time this felt inevitable. My sympathy is for the ordinary Israeli and Palestinian in the street who has no voice in any of this - both governments have had blood on their hands for decades.

countrygirl99 · 09/10/2023 10:58

You have to wonder exactly what Hamas thought they were going to achieve. Surely they know the response will inevitably be violent and with even more restrictions? Totally understandable that many Palestinians are upset about recent Israeli government policies but do Hamas really think this is going to help? So many innocent people will suffer on both sides.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/10/2023 11:12

I expect they're going for the propaganda win. Israel retaliates as expected by bombing the shit out of the missile launch points, which just so happen to be on the roof of a hospital/school. Cue wailing about evil Israel accompained by graphic pictures of killed children and destroyed ambulances. It's a bloody mess and as always it's the innocents who will pay the heaviest price.

pointythings · 09/10/2023 11:18

Hamas have always used civilian locations as human shields.
