Read the books again. Matilda is about the joy of love and of reading. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory rewards honesty. Danny the Champion of the World is about a fantastic non-stereotypical father-son relationship. George’s Marvellous Medicine is very funny (especially if you’re about 8) and no worse than any of the Rumpelstiltskin-type fairy stories. Etc.

Children deserve fun from some of their books, as do adults!

I don't think his books are ghostwritten, or at least they weren't originally. He may have handed over writing to someone else now. He's perfectly capable of writing. He wrote Little Britain.

Why are people banning his book from their house? Genuine question. Plenty of kids books are rubbish quality so what is it specifically about these - the poor stories or is it a dislike of the author?

We have a stack of them bought cheap from charity shops but we’ve not read them yet, so maybe that’s why there is always loads of them in charity shops!

Ugh he's vile. I can't believe people have forgiven and forgotten all the discriminatory content from Little Britain. He's not changed, and clearly a massive misogynist based on his comments on contestants from BGT. His agencies are just better at hiding it. But he is one turd that deserves to be cancelled.

His books are also banned in this house because life is too short to read shit books.

I banned his books due to disturbing topics, adult themes, and a sense that they were a bit disrespectful and discriminatory about certain groups. The evil nurse in hospital story was televised and I had to turn it off, it was so dark and unnerving.

I do not have this reaction to Roald Dahl. Yes they are weird and can be a bit dark, but they are appropriate for children.

He made my 9 year old cry with his mockery of a stutter.

His books include racial stereotypes and rude/crude humour. Banned in my house too. Met him once through work, he was sleezy and weird. Couldn’t figure him out at all.

He tends to portray overweight, working class women in leggings as the baddies in his ‘books’.

I didn’t mind The Boy in the Dress, but they’ve got increasingly poor in quality, and now as far as I can tell are mainly illustrations and pages of bullet points.

And he is a very unpleasant man.

I caught one as an audio book and was horrified by the racism in the portrayal of a black social worker. It was enough for me to leave them all well alone. He is a bad human.

Never liked David Walliams, always found him incredibly bitchy / catty.
Also never liked Leigh Francis, hate to say it but find him a bit repulsive and not at all funny, seems like he thinks being repulsive is funny, Why do so many so called ‘comedians’ have to be so vulgar and downright nasty, very few male comedians ( there are definitely some exceptions) could be classed as gentlemen nowadays but on the other hand absolutely No ( we none that I can think of) female comedians could be classed as ladies, all equally vulgar.

i found him incredibly unfunny and creepy from back in the Little Britain days. Awful programme.

Dahl himself made revisions to his books during his lifetime, for example in the 70s he made edits to subsequent editions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where he changed the appearance of the Oompa Loompas (they were originally black pygmies from Africa). His family have also made apologies for anti-Semitic remarks he made and... oh yeah, he wasn't rumoured to be a massive fucking sex pest, amongst other things.

He gives me the ick. His time will definitely come.

I never found Little Britain funny, Walliams gives me the creeps, he always seems to be kissing people.

Surely it's a silly time for him to stick his head above the parapet, especially with all the RB stuff. I do hope he is the architect of his own downfall.

There's a good story about him in last week's Popbitch. He's now stuck in my mind as a pink minstrel.

When I saw his face on online news I thought it would be about allegations along the lines of the Russell Brand type. Was shocked to read that the story was about him suing BGT. You would think that he would be keeping a low profile in the present climate.

Yeap. Ours too. It's like a weird British cult thing that we're all supposed to love his books. Theyre utter crap and so inappropriate for the target audience. It's a weird PR campaign gone mad.
And yes his smug, sly grin, looks like it holds lots of secrets.
