What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

I’ve just bought a new mop and a new pair of high heels for a wedding. I’m excited about the mop and dreading the heels. Middle age is beckoning. What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

15 year old son going to meet his girlfriend and he won't tell me where they're going as he thinks I'm going to follow them. I realised it was 20 years ago I was the same age he is now and meeting my own boyfriend.

But still amazingly cool. I saw her live a few months back, and she was great (and wonderfully rude to the fool who shouted ‘Play Brass in Pocket!’ as she came out on stage and shouted it again after every single song…)

Feeling stiff when I get up from my office chair after an hour long meeting. I used to be able to sit for hours and then move freely and easily when I got up.

  1. I'm in the midst of a tidying/sorting/chucking out spree and loving it.
  1. My knees put up such a performance when I crouched down yesterday that I'm refusing to do it again for a while.

To be fair, 1 could be just a hyper fixation, and 2 could be an accumulation of knee injuries over the years, but they both made me feel decidedly middle-aged!! I mean, I'm in my early 40s, so I suppose I am, but they made me feel it!

Being pregnant at 45 ! I know shock to me too . Going to anti natal and sitting with a lovely lady who is expecting her 2 nd and who I taught in year 1 primary. I felt so embarrassed. She was a lovely little girl and very polite but slipped up when she said wow I can’t wait to tell my mum and Gran. That made me feel so old

Receiving an invitation to a martial arts grading - simultaneously thinking woo-hoo, I may be a fat and frumpy middle aged cancer surviving mother of two - but I can still do this, and also, WTF am I thinking attempting this, it cannot end well?!?!
