What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

I’ve just bought a new mop and a new pair of high heels for a wedding. I’m excited about the mop and dreading the heels. Middle age is beckoning. What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

Getting ready to go out today wearing support stockings following an op on my varicose veins along with my hotter sandals and DH said I put him in mind of the nuns at his primary school!

Family funeral today and being the one everyone turned to because I'm the one who knows all the family legends.

I agreed with the man on the radio when he was talking about how there's something fascinating about going into a stationery shop and how he was excited about some fancy post-it notes. Another man phoned in saying how you can't beat a good fountain pen and I agreed with him as well. I used to listen to Radio One and Long Wave Radio Atlantic 252 and all the cool things; now I listen to radio phone-ins about paper and pencil sharpeners.

Atlantic 252! Used to listen covertly under the covers, my intro to pop music which was frowned upon in my house.

I booked my first walking holiday, one of those Saga type companies. Though I doubt my knees will thank me.

Insomnia & going to the loo in the night (presumably menopausal).
Not being able to get up off floor easily.

At 54 I refer to myself as 'young elderly'.

Getting excited about ordering Compeed foot plasters was a highlight today.

Nooooooooo @PermanentTemporary I’m 54, I’m not young elderly! 😭 although I did yesterday on DH’s birthday realise in 5 years I’ll me married to an OAP 🤣

@LadyPenelope68 agreed! 54 is “experienced adult”! “Young elderly” is 74 imho :-). Elderly is 84.

A couple of weeks ago, picking up my HRT and having to ask the pharmacist to fill in the back and point to the signature line because I'd left my reading glasses in the car 😩

Another one’s happened to me this morning. We had friends staying last night and this morning, instead of nursing hangovers, we’re comparing supplements over the breakfast table.

I was in B and Q the other day and had to have authorisation for something (I still don't know what, tbh. Tile adhesive? 3 buckets? Dunno.) Anyway. The options came up on the screen and the assistant jabbed the one that said 'Visibly over 25' without a second thought.

I mean I'm 54 and under no illusions about my looks but really, she could have at least pretended to hesitate 😂

And just the act of sleeping is fraught with difficulties it seems.

Another one - my chin hairs are increasingly coming in grey. It's depressing enough having to pull the buggers out without them being grey too.

my eyebrow hairs are coming through pure white, not even grey, gone straight to white from very dark brown 😭😭

I don't think you need to be middle aged to be furious at a comment like that . I think that everyone should be furious.

I spend way too much time on the Merlin app and reading about birds and now want to join the Audubon Society (I'm in the US).

I decluttered my closet and have put all my high-heeled shoes in the charity shop box for donation because there's "no way" I'm ever wearing them again.

I just received my renewed driver's license in the mail yesterday and the photo 😱😳 has scarred me!

Who the hell is that old lady in the photo?

The 30-year-old in my head and the 53-year-old in the photo don't match up.

And then I went back to watching "Midsomer Murders" reruns on tv with my feet up because my knee hurts...
