What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

I’ve just bought a new mop and a new pair of high heels for a wedding. I’m excited about the mop and dreading the heels. Middle age is beckoning. What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

On a busy flight back from our holiday today, my son announced loudly to me that I needed to colour my grey hairs back in as the sea had washed all my dye out 😬 Cue a few sniggers from other passengers 😂😂

Jacquel666 · 09/08/2023 18:23

Looking forward to a biscuit with my tea in front of the TV instead of a raucous night out.

I took my glasses into the bathroom to cut my toe nails in the bath and they steamed up!

QueueEtwo · 09/08/2023 19:02

Done a new CV for a job application! 🤣 I've been working how long!

frozendaisy · 09/08/2023 19:19

Supervising the youngster carrying a box of cream cakes home so they didn't squash against the box.

I mean who cares? Expect they were £3.50 a slice. (Amazing independent egg free cake shop it's hard not to when we visit that town)

frozendaisy · 09/08/2023 19:21

Kitting out new year uniform, (secondary) blazer, discussing how they 'fit' across the shoulders, oh lord just shoot me now! 🙂

Iamnotaloggrip · 09/08/2023 19:40

Playing a game with dd, I had to do not one but two forward rolls. I got dizzy, pulled a muscle in my neck and hurt my back. I used to be a gymnast 35 years ago.

frozendaisy · 09/08/2023 19:42

Usually lifting iron skillet (with food in) with two hands now as it's getting too heavy to guarantee I won't drop it with one.

SwedishEdith · 09/08/2023 19:44

My knees. Just annoying pain which I'm conscious of all the time I'm walking.

👏👏👏Well said, Yes we do hold the world together ✌

Too bloody right! I thought she was sensible until she came out with that shite.

I cannot tell you how impressed I am you can do a forward roll.

Had to have a little afternoon nap under my desk.

@User1800 oh my, the day my salad spinner arrived I was so excited! It’s now DD’s favourite toy, so I’m getting good value.

Just now, owing to the fact that I’m excited that you are both mentioning exciting salad spinners. I need a new one! Can you recommend a particular model?

I don’t know, but at 57 my head still thinks I’m a teenager….. the mirror is a nasty shock in the morning 😮

Ha ha. Same here. Though I am a bit younger

stinkingbishop · 09/08/2023 21:15

A consultant came to see a patient of mine today to offer a second opinion and I realised I have multiple items in my wardrobe older than him

My first robotic hoover arrived in the post and I actually went 'whoop' to the DCs' collective eye roll

I have spent 45 mins online looking at new butter dishes I might buy

@Newso i just bought a generic one from EBay. It reminded me of being fascinated by GM’s back in the 80s and it’s funny seeing DD doing just the same.

Wish I could reply to all of these but you’ve confirmed I’m firmly in middle age territory now.

At 54 I refer to myself as 'young elderly'.

Getting excited about ordering Compeed foot plasters was a highlight today.

largeprintagathachristie · 09/08/2023 21:26

Bought pillow cases from Dunelm today - tick - and googled lightweight ironing boards - tick.

SqueakyDinosaur · 09/08/2023 21:32

I sent a couple of quite fancy handbags to charity shops recently after deciding they were Too Heavy (unspoken end to that sentence is ('for all the crap I carry around with me')

oldnameplate · 09/08/2023 21:32

Yeah I snooped on the facebook profile of the hot dark longhaired, leather clad 20 something guy I was in love with as a 15- 16 year old (he didn't even register my existence back then). I was very excited to find him online but I when I clicked on his profile I was faced with a wee baldy old man with a big beer belly and a long grey beard 😭To be fair he must be pushing 60 now and he looked very happy with his wife in the photos, but it did make me feel old and sad that everyone even the hottest guys get old.

I've got the Oxo good grips salad spinner. It's 20 years old this year!

Can relate @oldnameplate - I recently snooped on my holiday romance of 1986, a lanky beauty with honey coloured hair, warm brown eyes and a dry wit. Neither of us look the same... though the wit and the eyes were about the same, plus oddly we have ended up in closely related professional fields that neither of us were thinking about back then. I find that a bit comforting tbh.

oldnameplate · 09/08/2023 21:38

@PermanentTemporary It's tragic isn't it! Ah well what might have been, its odd now that we can find people from our past online now its both kind of sad and comforting as you say.

My new colleague saying she had never seen a fax machine in real life but she thinks she might have seen one in an old film once
