What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

I’ve just bought a new mop and a new pair of high heels for a wedding. I’m excited about the mop and dreading the heels. Middle age is beckoning. What’s made you feel middle-aged today?

I'm currently on holiday in Crete and somehow got talked into going on a little boat/pedalo thing on a lake. I jumped in for a swim but then couldn't get back in the pedalo so my DS had to push my bottom whilst DH pulled my arms from the boat. Oh the shame, I used to be able to get up myself with no trouble!

wonderings2 · 09/08/2023 17:36

I work in HR and did an ID check on someone who was born in 2002

narniabusiness · 09/08/2023 17:38

I got a free cake and a hot drink voucher for John Lewis and I used it. That’s peak middle aged and then had to look at flabby tum inM&S bra fitting room.

An exciting-looking, heavy parce with 'Fragile' stickers all over it arrived. I had a brief panic because I couldn't remember ordering anything and I'm giving myself a hard time at the moment over menopausal brain fog. Then I opened it and it was a roll of wheelie-bin liners. That made me feel middle-aged twice over!

The pain in my knees.....

StrangersGathering · 09/08/2023 17:43

My 11 year old has just discovered Kate Bush via 'Running Up That Hill' (via Youtube and its revival in Stranger Things) and is awestruck that I remember when it was released. It's kind of as though I arrived in 2023 with a live bulletin from when dinosaurs walked the earth.

I felt middle aged once I had to say I was 60 something.

Just got a bit of a flutter of excitement when partner said he’d just ordered a salad spinner for us 😂

@User1800 oh my, the day my salad spinner arrived I was so excited! It’s now DD’s favourite toy, so I’m getting good value.

My afternoon nap. I've always loved a nap, but when I was younger it was because I'd been out clubbing half the previous night, but now it's just because I'm naturally tired.

@Highfivemum Congratulations! I had my son at 45 and my NCT group were a whole different generation 😂

Thank you. I didn’t find out until I was four and half months pregnant so a shock. My youngest is pleased though as he will no longer be the youngest. Best wishes

Ihateboris · 09/08/2023 17:48

Getting really excited about going to see Alexander O Neal in concert 😁

continentallentil · 09/08/2023 17:50

I have a nasty cold and am impressed by the mini buzz produced by lemsip

Incywincydidntknowwhattodo · 09/08/2023 17:51

When the girl at the beauty salon booked me in, told me she had half a day today and when I enquired, she said it was her birthday. Huge sigh from her, "Yeah, I'm 17!", said in an utterly defeated, aren't I old, tone.
She's getting a BMW 1 series by the way.

VaddaABeetch · 09/08/2023 17:55

Feeling relieved that my friend cancelled our meal this evening.

Feeling disappointed that I won’t meet my friend to rant about silly Mhairi Black.

AnSionnachGlic · 09/08/2023 18:01

Spent a glorious hour in the garden, identifying various bird sounds with my new Bird App Merlin! I was so fascinated I sent a link to my 21 Yr old dd. She sent me back 😮🤔

15 year old son going to meet his girlfriend and he won't tell me where they're going as he thinks I'm going to follow them. I realised it was 20 years ago I was the same age he is now and meeting my own boyfriend.

You’re 35, that’s not middle aged.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 09/08/2023 18:02

I made great progress on my jigsaw earlier. And I walked all the way into town to buy an eyebrow brush and forgot to buy the eyebrow brush. 🙄

LadyPenelope68 · 09/08/2023 18:06

When the GP made a comment yesterday in relation to a medical condition I have and said
” …… well when you are beyond middle age …”
I’m 54 😭

Mhairi Black MP referring to ‘50 year-old Karens’ to describe women standing up for our rights to single sex spaces. That made me feel middle aged and fucking furious. Ungrateful brat: middle-aged women hold the fucking world together. Who does she think raises children, supports young adults and cares for the elderly and vulnerable? Middle aged women, that’s who.

I hope I'm still around when she turns 50 so I can remind her of this. It's bad enough the misogyny from men without getting it from women too 🙄

Ohpleeeease · 09/08/2023 18:11

Define middle aged. I saw Christine Hamilton, 73, describe herself as a middle aged woman the other week. Bless.

Darkmodal · 09/08/2023 18:17

Not today as such but watching some of the rugby at the weekend. Looking at the new young players coming through and instead of thinking who do I fancy, I thought, awww so young, I hope they don't get hurt poor boys.

I am officially a middle aged mother now.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 09/08/2023 18:18

30 something commentator talking about 'old fashioned' desserts which she had never tried any of. I had!!!

RavingStone · 09/08/2023 18:18

Ahhh don't let twats like Mhairi Black make you feel old! (Unless you want to feel old? Personally I'm still waiting to feel like a grown up). There's nothing inherently progressive about her attitude. Her internalised misogyny belongs in the past where once it flourished. Slowly, slowly women are breaking free of that attitude. Just look at the incredible advice, support and knowledge that comes out on the relationship board.

ssd · 09/08/2023 18:19

I made lentil soup and a roast chicken dinner. Reminds me of my mum. Which pleases me.
